Hawthorn are talking tough wanting a quality player for him according to the afl website.

Who do we deal with to make the trade happen?

Just remember the players who have warranted high draft picks for trade. wayne carey des headland . Well wayne because of reputation, headland on a great season and potential.
If jade rawlings is dead set on playing for the roos he won't budge so the hawks are screwed anyway. Remember that all parties have to be satisfied. Worse comes to worse he will go into the draft and wait till the roos pick. Any team picking before us he can refuse because he can't be made to go anywhere. So if he is really keen on us i say offer the hawks little but enough and if it falls through bank that jade wants to play with brady REAL bad. If not he doesn't deserve to be a shinboner.

go roos

Can he refuse a club who picks him in the trade period, because if thats the case we should give the hawks nothing......

thats rite. All parties have to be satisfied, he can't be offloaded to say the bulldogs by the hawks if he doesn't want to play for them. Thats why this always takes until the end of the week because clubs ie> hawthorn, panic and think they will end up with nothing thats why they end up getting stuff all. Look at collingwood and Nick Davis and us with Byron Pickett.
THe only thing is if rawlings isn't dead set on us he might be wooed by a lot of cash. In that case we don;'t want him. Lets hope he loves us like brady does

Yes he can, but he can't refuse a team who drafts him.

If we play total hard ball, the Hawks will let him go to the pre-season draft and he will be picked up by Carlton.

The trade has to be equitable.

Yeah but we didnt insult another club by saying you have nothing we are interested in.

Who the hell do they think they are ?

Rawlings aint in the Carey class!

Are they honestly trying to say that none of our blokes would get a game at Dawkthorn ?

I know what I would be writting on the blackboard when we play 'em.

Don't be fooled by this stuff - I reckon it is just PR tripe for the masses - you know, make the Hawthorn supporters feel that their club is playing hard ball, etc. Sheedy does this kind of thing all the time.

In reality both the Hawks and Roos football departments would have a good idea of Rawlings' worth and the kind of deal which would satisfy both parties. Right now they'll be going to work making it happen.

yes But the drafting club has to negotiate a contract with him this gets talked about before drafting so if he is not really happy who would have a player that is not happy to go to the club.
Drafting is real bad for hawks cos they get diddly squat so by the end of the week they'll take what little we offer. We are the ones in position to play hardball not them.

I dunno. If we offer tooo little, I think they'll just let Rawlings go to the draft. Not much difference between a little and nothing, and they have to make a stand to show the rest of their list that they can't be held to ransom.

We are in a similar situation with Junior. If he REALLY wants to leave the club (god forbid) I'd rather we just let him go into the draft and take his chances with Denis. Sure, we'd get nothing, but we'd lose on any trade anyway and we have to let players and clubs know that the tail can't wag the dog.

carlos' roos, I thought you just behaved like an idiot on the Hawthorn board, but I see you do it here as well. I have never read so much dribble, you obviously have no idea how the system works. Do yourself a favour and find out before you make any more STUPID comments.
I am still laughing at your comments about Rawlings going into the draft and then you trading with Carlton. Think about it son, then try and work out why that was a ridiculous comment. You're a fool.

Exactly.

Also, keep in mind that we wouldn't be offering Hawthorn their choice of anyone on our list here. It would just be the blokes who we are prepared to trade.

And from Laidley's "i want to keep this list together as much as possible" comments a little while back, i'm tipping there wouldn't have been too many blokes of the quality that Hawthorn are talking loudly about wanting.

I guess now we have to shop around that 9th pick to anyone who is desperate for an injection of young talent (Adelaide?), or in real need of early picks for other purposes (Richmond to get one of their wishlist? Collingwood to get Stevens?) and who hopefully have something(s) satisfactory to pass onto Hawthorn.

I've had a gutful of the "what about this" speculation stuff because i have to read it all day on that fricken Trades/Draft Board. But i guess an example could be:

We give Richmond our pic 9 (which they'll possibly need for Solomon)

Richmond trade Joel Bowden and Kane Pettifer to Hawthorn (Who are screaming for some quick, outside runners. And both are pretty enough to fit in amongst the blowwave brigaide at Glenferrie)

We get Jade Rawlings.

Ambitiuos.

Bowden is worth close to FA. Pettifer is lucky to be playing AFL footy, if he is at all next year.

You know this.

We hold the upper hand because we can walk away from the trade. Getting Rawlings will be a bonus, we arent desperate for him. We need to play the waiting game. Melbourne & Geelong are our only threats. Jade can go the the Buldogs for nothing so they are out of the equation. We just have to wait for Melbourne & Geelong to commit to other playes like Solomon, Holland or Croad. They are desperate to use their rd1 picks to secure players so they arent going to wait for the last minute in the hope that the Rawlings to Roos trade falls over. North just need to string it out as long as possible and have the balls to be able to walk away from it if the asking price gets to much.

Shhhhhhhhhhhh! Peanut!!

Seriously though, my opinion of captain turnover Bowden and heart muscle Pettifer is probably far different to those int he know in this caper.

I've seen Pettifer look like Nathan Buckley at time when he's played for Coburg. Frawley just doesn't understand where he plays his best footy. And he's thrive in Hawthorn's system IMO, where they are screaming for wingman who can use the pill. He can.

I think its best that i don't discuss my opinion of Joel Bowden.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Make the bad man stop.

It is in Hawthorn's right to get what they want from the deal. We are losing a good KPP player, hence Hawthorn want to replace him with a good KPP. Why should the hawks take a step backwards by obtaining a 1st round draft pick??

The Kangas do not have any good KPP apart from Colbert and Petrie and i dont think that the Kangas want to part with either of them. If u guys dont come up with a suitable deal, i will fully support Hawthorn's decision not to trade him and to let him enter the draft where he will end up with the Bulldogs, Carlton or Melbourne.

This will show all of the players at the Hawks that they are not bigger than the club! And it will make them think twice about leaving.

Bugger!

They're onto me... ;)

But you get the gist of what i was on about? Perhaps my examples were bad ;) , but if Trent friggen Croad and Luke McPharlin can be seen as worth a #1 pick in one of the better drafts, and Daniel bloody Chick is worthy of a #10 pick, then we have hope of getting someone decent over to your mob in exchange for our #9 pick in a 3-way.

I just really hope Jade is worth all this.

If the Hawks want a KPP- a KPP they will have.. how about 9 to Richmond, Richmond send Richo to Hawks, Hawks send us Rawlings

?

Not sure the tigers would be happy- but they need space in their cap if they are going to get Solomon & Brown- Richo will give them that space, and pick 9 should provide them with a good youngster.

Go Roos

I don't actually think the Hawks are eyeing off only key possie players.

From afl.com.au article on Hawks "talking tough"

“We want a player delivered to us, we want a player to take Rawlings’ place,” Hook said.

“If Rawlings goes out and we just replace him with a young kid (through a draft pick) - and that’s not to say that kid won’t be good in two or three years time – but we want someone who can play now and they (the Kangaroos) know that.”

“We might not get a key forward but you’ve got to get a player who will have some impact into your team.”

Translation.

"We want a KPP player North or someone else can give us, because we suck arse at drafting them ourselves. We don't have long until Crawf gets sick of footy and hangs them up, and Schwabby needs to keep his job, so having testicles and taking a punt on a top 10 pick is out of the question."
