Bad luck about the loss tonight guys, but I couldnt help but notice these two players continue to fumble the ball under the finals pressure. It did get quite embarrasing at times. How did you guys see it?

For what its worth McMuffin aint much better.

They were not the only ones to fumble tonight.

Unfair to single them out. Yet again the scape goats.

How about their higher profile team mates who did sweet **** all, all game?

I couldn't even single out one good player, they were all that shit.

But if that pea hearted squib Nathan Eagleton is playing for the Bulldogs next year, it would be a ****ing disgrace.

Both were closer to the bottom of the heap than the top.
I'd like to defend them, but it's far too hard really. Ray's disposal is sub-par and Eagleton only shows his workrate when he is 5m clear of an opponent.

22 passengers tonite, and not 1 winner.

that said, what the $(*#@ were Ray and Eagleton doing tonite? Ray thought he was a member of the Three Stooges, with his "whoooooop" loopy handballs that put teammates under pressure, and Eagleton needs to learn that his right foot is for more than standing on.

but, time and time again - when eagle was open in the back 50 coming out of defence - he was ignored. They all lost faith in each other early (probably thanks to ray and eagle anyway). All down hill from there.
Yup, and Callan worked hard to get free for much of the game, but was ignored as a linkman as well. His endeavour is there, someone should make him wear long-stops though because he just couldn't keep his feet at the contest.

Ray,Eagleton ( probably just gone ) Minson,Cooney (must be a good trade) and Williams (injury proned ) should all be looked at for trade. We need and have to try something different before we all die before seeing a grand final

Minson and Cooney i don't think so...niether showed anything tonight thats for sure but i dont think they should be traded...Ray and Ego on the other hand..well thats a different story, now i have been a fan of both for some time now but when it mattered most they were knowhere to be seen..yes they are the scapegoats for sure and at times ( like tonight) it is deserved..I know there were about 17-18 other blokes tonight that done sweet F.A but Geez...they were horrible, horrible performers

One point I would like to make. That is these players are called outside players. Well I for one have never believed in a outside player and thought that that type off players never win you the finals.

Good sides have no outside players. Simple!

The more players you have in your side that can't win there own ball the further you are away from the crown.

Hawthorns outside players = Nil
Geelongs outside players = Nil

Lets watch these two teams play in the Granny.

Mark Williams, Cyril Rioli, Wojinski, Stokes x 2

Probably more finishers than outside midfielders, but I can see your point.

The outside midfielder comparison is a fair one.

Both Geelong and Hawthorn do have outside players, but they're capable of winning their own ball as well.

Exactly..its just that our outside types buckle under any pressure and aren't able to execute their disposals.
When they have space and time they are good, sure...but even i could hit up a leading player with a 40m pass..and im slow and overwieght

Nathan B. Before you get into our heads on our blog, why don't you have a good look at yourself.

Young, Bateman, Birchall, Crawford, Ellis, Osborne. These players do play the outside role, however even the softest receiver amongst them has toughened up considerably (Thank God).
Geelong has runners too, they also could be used has inside players in virtually any other team. Very strong team.

Eagleton I feel gets a bad run on this board. He was poor tonight but he is one of the few players who works his arse off to get into position. Often you will see him involved in a play before running forward to get on the end of it. He works very hard and on a night where Hawthorn clogged up our midfield and we continually made basic skill errors he was never going to do much.

Ray is another I have defended in the past, and whilst I still think he could be alright, tonights performance was quite possibly the worst individual performance of the year. I think he had one possesion that did what it was intended to do (a kick late in the last quarter to the wing). The amount of times he handballed to a player who was about to be tackled was astounding, and he continually panicked, especially in the first quarter when he shat himself for both shots on goal, which had he kicked them would have gone a long way to changing the result of the match.

i have continually defended both up to this point. ray's disposal is NOT at AFL standard, his shot at goal in the first quarter under NO pressure from 30m out which barely went 15m could have given us the ascendancy...sorry, but for a bloke picked number 4 in the draft 4 years on just doesn't cut it for mine. he might be great mates with the boys, but i cannot fathom how he's still a fringe player.

eagle - i've never said a bad word about the bloke because i've always thought he had a red hot crack and that swinging left boot was a weapon...everything the guy touched tonight turned to shit and it got me wondering when was the last time i'd seen him do something special. i can't remember it.

nutshell - eagle is gone, and ray has no trade bait left in him at all.

as far as i'm concerned, the last bloke who truly had a red hot go every single time was matty robbins and that's why i refuse to remove the number 30 from my jumper. we sorely lack heart and that little bloke had it in spades. goodnight all.

They both frustrated the hell out of me tonight, but I have defended them all year and I am not about to stick the knife in now.

But, if we are serious about winning a flag in the near future Eagleton has to be managed out of the side next year and only played if there is no viable younger option.

Ray is too big an investment and still has too much upside to let go this year. He was a late starter to the game and I think he will get smarter in his decision making. His skills will improve given time as well, late developers skills generally do. On top of this he doesn't have enough trade value at the moment so unless he requests a trade at the end of the year give him two years (on not much cash) and see how he goes.

I generally agree with these comments.

Eagleton has been good and does contribute something to the side, however if O'Keefe or Ward are pushing for that spot in the side they should get it provided Eagleton isn't dominating.

Giving Ray two more years is a good option. It gives him a chance to prove himself with us and hopefully come good, and also coincides with the entrance of the Gold Coast, meaning that if he doesn't come good they would still be likely to pick him up, and based on that formula system (games played, years at club, age etc.) he should net us a handy draft pick.
