Roast Rd 1 tickets

That’s great advice for club members! Unfortunately it hasn’t been rolled out to AFL members just yet so we don’t have that option available.

For any AFL members out there that have booked seats how did you do it? The reason being the email from yesterday announced both the free reserve seat upgrade and that the AFL member section was exhausted. I suppose I’ve missed an email along the way so mostly curious.

I booked in the usual manner via Ticketmaster at the allocated time for AFL members, 10am on Tuesday 1st Mar (which got postponed to 12pm due to the usual meltdown of Ticketmaster’s website). Had to enter the barcodes in order to move through to seat selection and choose from there, no dramas other than the standard hopelessness of Ticketmaster.

AFL has always had a relatively small allocation in the number of bays designated as the “AFL reserve” but in previous years they allocate member reserved seats in the first 6 or so rows on level 3 once the reserve itself is full. It appears for some reason they haven’t done this for round 1, who knows why?

My annoyance with them was around the free upgrade reserve seat barcodes that were compensation for the 2020 season - they didn’t email these barcodes until 4 days after the on sale date of rounds 1 - 5, hence making use of them first up impossible. Cynical manipulation to ensure maximum revenue at the start of the season when attendances will be higher.

A question relevant to the game, but not (apologies) the topic of this thread: is it worth the effort of going to Marvel --which I think is quite considerable-- on a Level 3 ticket?

Another: does being towards the front of Level 3 make it anymore worthwhile?

Level 3 towards the front is perfectly fine, no issues there.

I’m not sure of the numbers on here, but I know there are a plenty of AFL members that like me rarely reserve a seat for Marvel matches. I just wanted to flag with anyone in that category that you won’t be able to attend the match next week without first buying a public GA ticket (currently going for $38).

I’ve been liaising with a member of the AFL’s member services department and their official line is “As with all games the access for members is subject to capacity and at this stage the afl reserve is at full capacity”. I’m going to be lodging a formal complaint and I’d encourage anyone in a similar boat to do the same considering the Marvel AFL member allocation is roughly 5,000 and Collingwood has at least double that in gold AFL members.

The reason you won’t be able to walk up is explained in an email we received yesterday which states “The AFL Mobile Membership is expected to be ready for Round 1, but not in sufficient time for us to feel comfortable promoting, educating, and supporting our members through this transition.” We’ve also received a free upgrade, but you can only use it on AFL member seats which are of course exhausted for Rd 1.
Not much help but you can use your free upgrade for Rounds 2-5 I believe.

Tickets were on sale for AFL Members for Rds1-5 on 1st March as advised by multiple emails the week prior. It was originally 10am for Marvel, but a glitch in the system accepting logins meant it got moved back and another email advised it was changed to midday. MCG tickets went in sale the same day at 1pm
I saw those emails the question was how people booked without access to their mobile membership? I was also stuck in floods in SEQ so booking at the time wasn’t really an option and I’ve never had to book a ticket at that ground in the 20+ years since it was built. The issue isn’t so much booking tickets either, but rather the inaccessibility to walk up.

There were emails as Sandy 13 describes in post #18, for AFL members.
The trick was to enter the 12 number barcode the AFL sent us by email.
That offered you a seat at various prices which I booked.
$15 for 2nd level wing.
No other cost.

Since there has been an email saying that you need to book a seat for rd 1 as there is no walk up option, with the price of $0.

Your complication is of being too late for a "hot ticket", I suspect.
Or a missed Email?
So our barcode was amongst those emails? The problem here isn’t so much that I missed one of those red hot tickets because I miss them every time we play at Marvel, it’s never been an issue and even if I had my barcode I wouldn’t have booked one. It’s more that the compensation for not being able to walk up is a free reserve seat upgrade which was sent through at the same time as the announcement that the AFL reserve was sold out. Sprinkle that with phone lines disconnecting when you choose an option on the phone menu and the snarky FB discussion and it really gives off an impression of “oh well”. What should be done is that reserve seat upgrade should provide access to a general admin ticket considering the $1000 donation I’ve made the past 2 years.

Yes, it was - the barcode was listed about 3/4s down the page on just about every email from the AFL from mid Feb onwards, but it was certainly present on the season launch one sent on 22/2. That’s the one I used to save the barcodes in my phone notes and also in an Excel spreadsheet for the easy cut and paste into Ticketmaster and Ticketek.

We shouldn’t be surprised that the functionality in the AFL app to access the digital membership card is not ready in time for season start. How hard is it?!? They would have had at least 12 months to get it ready as the decision to go digital would have been made that far out.

They do and they did.
Level 3 is always my preference and I got tickets there again.

Trying to avoid calling Ticketmaster… Anyone know how I go about getting neighbouring seats one being a public reserved seat and another being a member reserved seat?

I have a specific reserved seat as part of my membership instead of access to a bay, so can’t just get a guest pass. Also since I hold a member reserved seat I don’t have a Ticketmaster member code.

Normally I’ll just move to GA on match day, but I was wanting to book this year.

Cheers.

Edit: Ended up buying a seat a bay over from mine and will wing it on the day. Ticketmaster still have their phone disconnected and online enquiries only. Website also had no availability for multiple seats.

Might have to call him or try and find someone with Tickets that are not being Used

I did notice they seem to be all single seats. Whether thats just what is available or.. who knows. But on game day, I imagine you'll shouldnt have any issue in finding two together. Just move.

flipping nightmare trying to get 2 seats together on ticketmaster online last night saying none available, tried again this morning managed to nab a couple row A lvl 3 seats. So should get a good view of the action. Just wanted to get back into the action after not going last couple of years due to covid. Miss seeing our boys live so much. CARNA PIES!!!

Due to my son having covid we are isolating tomorrow night. Has anyone got any ideas how I can transfer our tickets? Legend members. I've taken a screenshot of the barcodes but know that doesn't always work. Giving my username and password (life long friends) seems a bit silly but may be the only way. Anyone worked out another solution?

How many AFL upgrade numbers did you all get?

I got one but my daughter got eight! Does that mean she can use that many times?

I got eight and my daughter got four, that will be due to her membership being a student concession. Each upgrade barcode is unique and can only be used once but yes, there’s 8 upgrades for a full membership if you opted for that compensation package.

Thanks DS, she opted for the meal package.

I was hoping to use as I have banned my adult daughter from coming with me, she will get us thrown out with the report rule.

She gets very excited and it is almost like sitting next to a Game Day thread.

That’s hilarious, you need plausible deniability. I remember that time a few year’s ago when you mentioned you got into a spot of bother at a game - Melbourne supporters dobbed?
