That’s great advice for club members! Unfortunately it hasn’t been rolled out to AFL members just yet so we don’t have that option available.
For any AFL members out there that have booked seats how did you do it? The reason being the email from yesterday announced both the free reserve seat upgrade and that the AFL member section was exhausted. I suppose I’ve missed an email along the way so mostly curious.
I booked in the usual manner via Ticketmaster at the allocated time for AFL members, 10am on Tuesday 1st Mar (which got postponed to 12pm due to the usual meltdown of Ticketmaster’s website). Had to enter the barcodes in order to move through to seat selection and choose from there, no dramas other than the standard hopelessness of Ticketmaster.
AFL has always had a relatively small allocation in the number of bays designated as the “AFL reserve” but in previous years they allocate member reserved seats in the first 6 or so rows on level 3 once the reserve itself is full. It appears for some reason they haven’t done this for round 1, who knows why?
My annoyance with them was around the free upgrade reserve seat barcodes that were compensation for the 2020 season - they didn’t email these barcodes until 4 days after the on sale date of rounds 1 - 5, hence making use of them first up impossible. Cynical manipulation to ensure maximum revenue at the start of the season when attendances will be higher.
