AFL Club
Carlton
IN: Betts, Bannister, Bryan, Longmuir, Russell
OUT: Kennedy, Blackwell

Very poor selections:rolleyes:

How can you drop those 2 when they have been given no opportunity? What sort of message does it send to them?

As much as i am looking forward to watching Kennedy's career, i can't fault him being omited this week. Has been pretty quiet and that's life as first year player. Blackwell, very surprised about that one. But at the same time it does send a good message to the boys that you will get your chance if you look at the ins. Very positive move by Pagan to bring back Bannister and we all wanted Bryan and Russell playing seniors. We will have to wait to see who stays in but i think that it's not too bad.

Interesting that Betts get's dropped, doesn't play, then get put straight back in. What's the theory behind that one?

I like Eddie and think he should be in there, but it's just.... interesting

That's pretty f*cked!!!!!!!

Give Kennedy and Blackwell an hour game time (PUT TOGETHER THAT IS!) and then drop them after a belting? :thumbsd: poor form, it really is.

Did you know that Kennedy was on for a whole of 31 minutes last week?? That's one quarter! And that wasn't in one whole block so he would've had a chance!

How do you expect someone to perform if you give them 5 minute on the ground, 10 mins off, 5 mins on, 15 mins off??

That they need to get some decent game time in the VFL.

Yes mate. I do go every week. Apart from the Essendon game he hasn't looked that involved when on the ground. He is a first yaer player, they dont get every minute of a game. That's the way it goes. Do you have a problem with who has come back in?

I don't really mind Kennedy being dropped. He's a first year player who hasn't made a huge impact and has very little protection ATM with Waite and Fisher out. A couple of full games with the Bullants will be good for him.

Good to see Russell back as well.

I am not too fussed with the outs. They are young kids and won't always be in the side. It is a long year and playing them all year if they are not ready will do more harm than good.
Full game in the 2's is fine for them. There seems to be this belief that the best way to develop kids is to play them in the firsts for long periods of time regardless of performance or what is best for their development. I think there is an unhealthy expectation we have on the kids and what we think they will give. Give them time to develop, it is what is best for the future. Mind you, the outs will cause a stink with the fans!!

Good to see JR recognised. Don't mind the in's, but I am not sold on Bryan. Have to admit, I haven't seen enough of him though.

I AM JUST GLAD DELUCA IS NOT PLAYING

Sad to see Kennedy and Blackwell get dropped but I suppose a full game for the Bullants will give them a chance to impress again and they will be more hungrier to get back into the side.

For what it is worth I think the bench should be:

Russell, Longmuir, Byran and Bannister.

GET TO THE DOME ON SUNDAY AND SUPPORT THE BOYS

GO BLUES

Team Selection again is a disgrace. How could Graham Smorgon sit there and say to us supporters that the club has taken the youth policy and denis pagan has been instructed to play youth and they go and drop blackwell and kennedy!!! Some youth policy!!! How could they leave blokes like Teague, Sporn, Wiggins, Predergast, Linvinstone in the side. All these guys would not get on a list at any other side but they are playing senior footy at Carlton. All we need is to do is add deluca to that list and were flying!!!! NOT!!!!
As much as I have been a fan of his in the past but Kouta needs to be rested because he has been embarrasing this year and his body language is effecting the rest of the side so maybe a couple of weeks on the sideline's might be benificial all around. We are not going to make the 8 and we should be looking to finish as low as we can so we can get our hands on some quality kids, so for the rest of 2006 season we should be playing youth and experimenting with players and their positions.

Pagan and selection commitee need to take a good hard look at themselves and stop making excuses and feeding us supporters crap, week in week out.

I just hope that Russell and Betts get back in the side this week because they are the guys that our future lies with!!!

Coaching staff need to be turned over ASAP!!!!

I don't mind Kennedy being omitted for the game against Port. He's had a taste of AFL footy, and now he needs to spend some time in the VFL to get some game time under his belt. Has already shown, imo, that he will be a pretty good player for Carlton.

Thought Blackwell was a bit unlucky to be dropped, but he'll be back before the end of the year.

As for the ins, i'd like Russell to play. Also showed a bit when he was in last time, and from what I have heard, his form for the Ants has been pretty good.

Have to agree with you HBF. Kennedy has really struggled to pick up the pace of the game since the Essendon match. No doubt he looked good against Essendon because they are struggling. Against better opposition ie St Kilda & Adelaide, he was constantly being lost and was really struggling to find the ball.

As you say, Blackwell was a bit unlucky, but he is going to have to wait his turn to get a regular spot in the midfield. He will make it, though. I have no doubt about that.

Carlton on a ROAD TO NOWHERE

I GIVE UP

We need more accountable Players
Kouta has to go this year he has been a champ now he must move on ( so we can still look up to him as the superstar he was)
Houlihan is no good and must go ( he is a girl)
And all these players have to go as they will never get us anywhere
Sporn, Prendergast, Chambers, Longmuir, Saddington, Livingston, Davies, Deluca, Scotland ,Bannister

Lappin I hope has 2 years left in him
So the players we have to build a team around are
Fev,Stevens,Whinall,Walker,Thornton, Murphy, Simpson, Kennedy, Waite, Fisher, Bentick, Russell, Bower,Edwards, Bryan,Betts
Give the younger players more game time and see if they are any good
not just one game then back to the res stay in for 3 weeks and see what they can do

We have to play the duds at AFL level to see if they are worthy of being delisted at the end of the year.
Yeah but why play them all together?

Why not drop a dud for a dud? Why a kid for a dud?

Carlton on a ROAD TO NOWHERE

I GIVE UP
Dropping Russell hasn't hurt him even though he should have been elevated last week, so why has dropping an underdone player and a skinny kid set back the 15th placed side?

Will Josh and Luke not make it?

God forbid if he trys to win the game by selecting what he sees as the best team(right or wrong).

Bad tactics: sack him
Bad development: sack him
Bad recruiting: sack him
Picking what he sees as the best team to play Port and get a win: sack him  :D

Cypher totally agree...

not matter what Pagan does everyone seems to want to sack him....

Perhaps some supporters don't realise that Pagan works with the team and the group and would no doubt have some plans and ideas he wishes to implement.

Lets also realise the board did not give him a 3 year extension for no reason at all.

The board for financial reasons could have not extended his contract but they did, for Pagan must have shown/discussed with them some of his reasonings and goals for the future of this group.

Let us put some faith in Pagan and some support.. for in a year or two's time when we are winning more consistently again... it may show we have Pagan to thank for it.

Let the man finish his contract in my eyes with the hardship we've been dealt with he has done his best to keep himself sane.

Good luck Blues on Sunday...

give us a win!

JJ you are spot on.
I have stated on previous threads Pagan has methods that won't provide Carlton with short term fixes, he will build a side that will be a Dynasty, he will do this by making our young players complete footballers.
Dropping Blackwell and Kennedy may seem short-sighted for some, but giving these guys a few games in the 2's to build confidence is a must. Plus not to mention both these two players don't have the Physical attributes yet to compete for long periods of time. We don't want to be like StKilda who played all their kids at a very young age and now can't keep them out on the park due to injuries. Their situation isn't bad luck it is bad management!
The inclusion of Russell is a good result, the kid has had very good form and is learning what are his strengths while building confidence. Something I want to watch is, apperently his kicking on the run is fantastic but when stationary is a bit dodgy.
Bannister deserves a shot, this guy has been fantastic in the VFL, I just hope he gets played in the same way. He will provide us with run out of defense while still being able to take a man.
One thing that no one has written about is both Walker and Murphy being listed as Followers, this is a glimpse of the future is it not.
