Noone we bring in from Sandy will be able to man Jack Riewoldt. Will be up to Dempster and Gwilt i reckon. He isnt that tall anyway just strong and smart(ish).

Jack is listed as 195cm which makes him taller than cousin Nick. They look about the same height though.

I think we have the same problem with Nick Riewoldt. Unless carrying some sort of niggle against us he is virtually unstoppable. The only chance against him is restrict supply in the midfield and/or have him push up the ground and get his kicks outside 50.

No one on our list can contain Jack Riewoldt, he's been demolishing us for years.

If he hadn't given himself a holiday, I'd have suggested playing Simpkin on him.
As far as height/pace etc there is no reason he couldn't do it. Would have been a good challenge for him.

Riewoldt's way taller than Simpkin

Rubbish!.
Simpkin is 191cm.
While he will obviously struggle against the Tippett's, Petrie's etc, do you really think 4cm is insurmountable? ( I'd expect that his fingers above the joint are well over 4cm ). There's not even much weight between them.

Not saying he would beat Riewoldt, but height wouldn't be the reason.

Add Jack's height to his ridiculous leap and he'd be a great deal taller than Simpkin in the air.

Have I ever said that?

Probably not.

Lets go back in time.
I say, "If Simpkin wasn't rubbed out he could probably play against Riewoldt"
You then reply " No way can Simpkon combat Riewoldt's massive leap "
So then I'd say, well that only really leaves Rhys Stanley, I wonder how Roberton would go on Vickery. :D

( I've got to Say Jack really does need to work on looking more "cool" while he's leaping ).

I think Dempster's probably our best bet for Riewoldt personally, don't think Rhys has the smarts to go with him, would be more suited to Vickery and could go with him in the ruck.

I think the main issue I would have with Simpkin having taken Riewoldt (all hypothetical now I guess with him being rubbed out) is that he was taken apart by him in the clash at Etihad last year. Simpkin took a serious blow to his confidence and hasn't looked the same player since.

Not sure who was playing on Jack when West Coast played the Tigers a couple of weeks back, but Mitch Brown was playing. ( only 2 goals ).

I suggested over on SS a few months ago that using a late pick on Hamish Shepheard would not, IMO, be a waste of a pick, and was heavily abused. The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced I wasn't all that far wrong. Only 22, listed at 198cm and 90kg, quite clearly has a leap on him, and the comments above suggest he has more than a dash of mongrel about him.

Shaun's take from over on truezebras.net:
Shepheard is a strongly built key position player. He is a versatile tall defender who has ability to play in ruck if needed.. Mobile for his size, reads the game well and has clean hands

In my view, a good reader of the play can make up for a deficiency in pace, as long as he's not treacle slow. And with an AFL pre-season 90kg becomes 94kg.

The major knock seemed to be, as one poster put it, he made Kosi look like lightning. Can anyone shed some light on that?

now is not the issue, look at the next crop of fwd coming in that he will have to contend with in 4 years time.

how tall are:
boyd
daniher
spencer white
etc.

its only going to get worse for simpkin, that is unless he lines up on the medium tall. which to be honest there are other players who are better at that role than him
