Essendon certainly were exceptionally good at full strength in 1995 and 1996, as that game must prove (I have heard Fox or someone showed the game in full but any footage would be wonderful) but Carlton were just superlative and but for a few injuries and a short but sharp form slump could have established themselves as the best team in League history with a 25-0 record. We were never quite good enough in '95. Reminded me of '89. We were just a notch below the genuine contenders.
Very strange! Even though Essendon were 102 points up at three-quarter time, one would think that on a slippery surface that the wettest football day in Melbourne's history provided they would not have been tired, especially since a slow St. Kilda side provided such little oppositionI remember Smokin Joe took a mark about 30 meters out from our defensive goal and turned around and had a shot at the saints goal.
Sheeds wasn't happy about it. He said that it was disrespectful.
