Miers is out. Perfect time for wiltshire. Harder to fit him in when miers is back in two weeks.
Would like a fresh player out there too, added bonus that he's got pace.

Personally always wary of the game post EM.

They're played at a finals like intensity, it's hard for the players to back up both physically and emotionally off the shorter break, let alone when Carlton had a training run three days prior.

.
Would love to see Stewart in the middle which may require Kolo to return, and would like to see Danger play more midfield - one CBA yesterday was odd and very brave coaching by Scott especially when Newcombe and co were getting on top of us.
I think at some stage you just have to bite the bullet and back your midfield in

It almost backfired, but didn't. The "kids" got valuable experience in resilience around close games to boot

Stewart should be better for the run.

Why do I have a feeling these pricks will somehow turn the tide against us?
Obviously, because #weareeeveryonesgrandfinal

In all seriousness

* Short break

* Carlton up and about after playing two televised training runs.

* We've played two top 4 contenders in intense, emotional contests and are probably due a flat game, or one where we run out of legs late.

* Mentally focused (I.e mainly Chris Scott) on the Pies game a week later

* Messi is out.

******************

That's not to say we can't win, we should still be expecting to do so....but the reasons are there.

Yep, agree with that.

Will be happy if we win, but it won't be the end of the world if we don't.

Still, Richmond flogs will think the AFL bows to our every whim 😇

If it's any consolation, the Carlton supporters can get up and about again as if a H&A win actually means anything.

Deadset carried on like they won the premiership last year against us, and they're shaping to do it again...do they ever learn?

It's like it's been so long since they've been a contender, the supporters have forgotten what contending sides actually look like.

Reminds me of when the Chris Newman lead Tuggers used to annually beat the Hawks.

It meant nothing, but don't tell them that!!

Inside you there are two animals

A Bailey Smith who wants to publicly give fans the finger and throw balls into oppo players faces

And a Tom Atkins who just wants to quietly drop a knee into the back of players heads
When's your new book out? "How to unleash your inner Dangerfield"

So we lose Gryan for two big games and Squarks miss the thug for 4 against no names.

Seems fair.
I always wondered if there was a way you could "hold over" a suspension game until you next played the club you got the suspension against.

So in this case Nash would serve the next 3 weeks but be ineligible to play Geelong next time they meet.

It's needlessly complicated and would never be out into practice but it would be interesting to see how it played out.

Hahahaha - brilliant.

I actually love that Smith sticks it up the crowd.

Hope he does it every game.

Fuuuu- they were insufferable!

Maybe it'll be the same result as last year? Beat us then go on to lose to all and sundry!

I’d probably look to drop OHenry for this one to try get his confidence back in VFL game and bring him back in against the Pies.
If you think dropping a player low on confidence helps in getting confidence back?

I’m not worried about Henry; he’s out of form, but he has the skill and has been putting in the effort. It will come.

I’m worried about ruck. We can’t afford to keep playing Stanley, but we can’t afford not to. One part of me thinks they thought it was a good idea last year to ruck de koning against his brother so they’ll do it again, and another part of me thinks they will see is as not working last year and try something new. There’s not much they can try though.

I’m going to bet on option two, and suggest that we will put blitz in there.

Option 2a - the more out there suggestion - may be to use Neale. He played his first few games for Geelong as #1 ruck (out of necessity). I don’t like it from ruck craft perspective, but he may be a good match up in terms of size and running capacity, and it will free up a spot for Henry in a key forward capacity. Then Stanley back for colllingwood. The result will probably be a ‘poor game’ on the stats sheet for Neale, but it may be the best of a few evils.

I’m excited to see mullin run around on the mcg.

I didn’t mind knevitt on the weekend. I’m surprised he had so few touches, he seemed to be in the right positions often, particularly defensively.

Clohesy likewise; the two out on the fulls looked a bit bad, but the second one particularly was under a lot of pressure and would have been smothered if he’d kicked it any further left than he did. He’ll learn. We ‘ll need him in with miers out. Not in the same role, but perhaps deeper forward while close or stengle replace miers.

I have a feeling kolo may come straight back in - especially if one of blitz or de koning is rucking; he had a full pre season so should be fit enough,

Id then give sub to a small/ medium defender who hasnt had a rest yet. Maybe Bowes. Or maybe O’Connor. Maybe mullin if he hasn’t done much running since Adelaide.

I don’t see them making too many changes, especially in this block of three mcg games off tight turn around. Keep mentally focused as a group, and then maybe change things up for Gws.Wiltshire will get his chance, but I don’t see him having big enough impact to warrant the change right now.

Meat tray:
In: mullin, kolo
Out: miers, Stanley
