I agree, Riddell are unbeatable this season. However, if Sunbury Kangaroos got to the big one and played four quarters of the same footy they produced in the third term yesterday, they would at least challenge the Bombers. Very unlikely to happen this season though unfortunately.

People may as well post their tips for the Bowen.

Mine are:
1. Blake Whiteway (Wallan)
2. Sam Young (Riddell)
3. Chris Collins (Lancefield)
4. Lee James (Riddell)

it's not a question of who will win it this year. the question is by how much?

Obviously coaches remaining in the finals race will be just concentrating on progressing to the grand final at this stage .But once there will have to come up with some pretty inventive coaching moves to topple riddell .might be time to match up player for player , if riddell player comes off you come off for a rest , try and keep it as tight as you can for as long as you can ,last quarter luck falls your way could end up with a premiership .Or you could try the time hounerad tactic of going the knuckle ( not that i would condone violence on this thread ). If it bleeds you can kill it .

Must I say it again? You are a "FOOL"

Must I say it again? You are a "FOOL"

Must i say it again ,dont get too uptight or tense . you have only lost one final . You earnt the double chance but cut throat from now on .As i said earlier a few sleepless nights before this finals series is over . Just dont let it affect your own personal form .

Your sleepless night theory is out the door. When the 2nd best team can only kick 2 goals in an entire match there is no chance of panic setting in this year. 33 scoring shots to 11 is total domination. You may enjoy you little baiting session at the moment but even you know nothing will stop Riddell this year.

Actually the Riddell team could stay up watching the Seinfeld marathon the night before the Grand Final - turn up to the game with no sleep and still win in a canter.

Agreed seniors past the post , was refering to the reserves coaching staff having a few sleepless nights . The two of them looked terrible on the weekend , Thats why you try and finish 1 2 just in case there is a hiccup along the way .

they were the best 2s side of the home and away season, from what i heard woodend were amazing on saturday and nobody would have beaten them. I would hardly think their coaching staff would have a sleepless night after one game.

they have dropped their last 2 games to the 3rd and 2nd placed sides in the last 2 weeks. sunbury kangaroos finished 4th so surely they must be quietly confident. having helmers in helps too

i realise the last comment was probably tongue in cheek.however i think riddell would more than hold their own if it came to fisticuffs.
on the weekend was the first time i had seen them play this year and what i noticed was the sheer pressure they put the opposition under. creates turnovers and almost always a goal down the other end.being entirely honest knowone thinks that they will beat riddell this year.however surely the opposition coaches will come up with a smarter plan than going the knuckle.unless they r coached by bdr68.lol. luv ya big fella.c ya saturday

Congratulations to Tom Waters of Lancefield on winning this years Bowen Medal.
Runners up were Riddell Pair Justin Belleville & Sam Young.

& Many thanks to Sunbury Kangas for their cordial hospitality, much appreciated fellas. :thumbsu:

You seemed to be in bed with a few clubs kings and you like too stir the pot but you are only a stats man! This week you must be sleeping with someone from Riddell ,I guess the lions are out now of the finals just Gisborne and Riddell are in .Areyou going too get lucky if one of those sides win the granny and how will you go if both win Jerry! is Marcus your Kramer and Serge your Newman .You know you owe me a shout !So have seen the DVD of Eagalhawk game yet or are you in bed with Newman this week who still might put in for the Lions job or even be an assitant to Mark Johnson if he gets the job .Will Petran ,Climas ,Robertson go with him too the Lions sounds like they will if they get the money they want? How hard is it for you torn between two mates but willing to look after the Lions because you love Newman better than Kramer

Comments:

As expected, Riddell were just far too good for Woodend-Hesket. Dominated every quarter and were by the best side into the STRONG wind all day. The highlight of the day was Climas' new kicks, who caught the eye of everyone. As chieftont would understand, the Melton folk couldn't take their eyes off the SHINY boots. My best on ground was Petran, who was simply awesome. Was certainly coasting from rounds 1-15, but has turned it on in this last month. The HOOVER - Peter Robertson - was also good, as was Slugga, Micky Allen, Leigh Harrison, Ricky Elliott, Brayden Allen, Jason Allen etc. The beauty about Riddell's side is that it is really hard to find the dominant players as they are all exceptional.

Woodend-Hesket must be disappointed tonight, really didn't put up a challenge. I don't think they have the cattle this season, which is a shame because it means the Bombers will win the GF in a cakewalk (unless someone does a Waddsy).

In the other senior match, Diggers Rest walked all over a non-competitive Macedon in the first half, and had the game sewn up by half time. The Cats fought hard but were just too far behind. My best for the Burra were Sims, Heritage, Marsh, Thompson and Jose.

In the magoos, didn't see any of the Woodend-Hesket v Riddell match, but everyone who did said the Hawks were amazing.

Wallan got the jump against Kilmore, but the Blues fought back and looked to be a good chance of winning. But with the GALE, the Magpies kicked two late ones to sure up the win.

Macedon was ROBBED in the Under 18s by a an umpire who is simply past it. Won't mention names but ONE FREE KICK in a half of footy to the Cats is simply not acceptable. Some due credit should go to the Blues though, who were pretty darn good. Swanny, Pronk and Tighe were best for Kilmore, while Goodwin, Markworth, Preston and McConville were best for the Cats.

In the other match, a 20-man Riddell side managed to pip Woodend-Hesket by the narrowest of margins. For oneeyedblue, that is one point. The Hawks just wasted too many opportunities with the wind.

Overall, it was brillaintly run day by Melton Central, and although it was the windiest place on earth today, the Blues should definitely be in contention to host another "double header" next season.

My ranking of the day and the footy: 7/10.
I watched my beloved cats on the weekend but stood in between ovals 1and 2 and seen one of the best two's games i've seen this year ,it must of had one the biggest crowds all day but went home after we lost but we still have the unders in at Kilmore on Sunday so i will head over there

Fair call, was a disapointing loss on the weekend, but we are still alive and in with a chance, right us off if you wish but we will be a different side this week, some handy inclusions will help unlike your 4 players you will loose after injuries and other excuses in the 1's. Hiccup yes, game over No, hopefully we will meet again this year and myself and the other coaching staff can catch up with you and see how we went?

Oh and just to save you another wasteful reply, Yes I am having sleepless nights and just got home from the Casino again pissed drunk.

What a night! I've had about three hours sleep but I'm still pumped up about last night's function.

Congrats to Tom Waters, who had a stellar first season with Lancefield. I hope he stays at Tigerland because I reckon he can be a part of a lot of success in the near future.

Commiserations to Sam Young, who I thought would have polled much higher than that. I guess that's what happens when you put your faith in the umpires.

Justin Belleville, who also tied with Young for second in the Bowen, had some consolation by taking out the Buffalo Goal Umpires' Award, with Young a close second.

Well done to Melton Central boys Matt Martin and Jason Hannett who came first and second respectively in the reserves best and fairest. Hannett also won the Buffalo Award in the magoos.

Kilmore skipper Dylan Walker took out the U18s best and fairest, ahead of Woodend-Hesket's Ric Cerminara.

Riddell young gun Ben Sonogan took out the Buffalo Award, ahead of Diggers Rest's Tom Gleeson.

In the netball, Macedon's Melissa Climas was the winner of the Ryan Medal for best and fairest in A-grade, one vote ahead of Lancefield's Anna Soldatic.

Congrats on the league for running a good show, and once again Brian Taylor did a magnificent job as MC.

On a final note, just want to acknowledge Steve Turner for all of his work over the years, and it will be a different league without him. He was given a brilliant send-off.

I did this final Top 50 last week, and I'm surprised compared to some of the Bowen Medal votes.

1. Lee James (Riddell)
Kicked 103 goals in the home and away season and along with teammate Sam Young, has been the standout performer for Riddell this year. A terrific kick for goal and very mobile for a full-forward.

2. Sam Young (Riddell)
After having a two-year spell on the sidelines after knee and back injuries, Young has been a massive injection into the Bombers’ midfield. Tough as nails and with precise skills, the former Kyneton and Sunbury centreman was unlucky not to be number one.

3. Mick Lacy (Woodend-Hesket)
By far the best centre-half-forward in the competition when firing. Also mobile and tall enough to play as a ruck, Lacy is the key to Woodend-Hesket’s slim premiership hopes.

4. Chris Collins (Lancefield)
At just 22 years of age, Collins is a terrific leader of Lancefield and enjoyed his best season to date at Tigerland. A courageous midfielder with polished skills, the playing coach has the potential to lead the Tigers to a flag in the near future.

5. Shaun Sims (Diggers Rest)
A tough midfielder with silky skills, Sims has led the Burra for many years now and continues to play at a high-class level. His leadership skills are second to none in the RDFL and his players would walk over hot coals for him.

6. Brendan Chugg (Melton Central)
Recruited to the Centrals in the pre-season, Chugg has lived up to his hype this season. A mobile half forward with great hands, the veteran can also be used as a pinch-hit midfielder.

7. Blake Whiteway (Wallan)
Has enjoyed a stellar season in Wallan’s midfield and is a certainty to take out the Magpies’ best and fairest honours. A terrific leader and gutsy centreman, Whiteway is all class.

8. James Wright (Macedon)
A young gun with a bright future, Wright almost single handedly carried the Cats into the finals this season. A classy centreman/winger, Wright will be a future captain of Macedon.

9. Kar Weng Ng (Woodend-Hesket)
Along with Riddell skipper Jason Allen, Kar Weng is a class half back flanker. His ability to read the play and rebound from defence is superb, and is the Hawks’ most important playmaker.

10. Jeremy Jose (Diggers Rest)
Considering he has played football for such a short time, Jose is a definite footy “feel good” story. As a ruckman he is rarely beaten, and as a utility around the ground he gives opposition headaches. Is the Burra’s most important player.

11. Jason Allen (Riddell)
12. Brian Wheelahan (Melton Central)
13. James Climas (Riddell)
14. Ryan Connellan (Romsey)
15. Daniel McCabe (Diggers Rest)
16. Tom Waters (Lancefield)
17. Justin Belleville (Riddell)
18. Sam Bowen (Woodend-Hesket)
19. Matt Welsh (Sunbury Kangaroos)
20. Peter Robertson (Riddell)
21. Bobby Johnson (Sunbury Kangaroos)
22. Brennan Beall (Macedon)
23. Rick Dowling (Lancefield)
24. Mick Allen (Riddell)
25. Aaron Blade (Riddell)
26. Cole Laurie (Diggers Rest)
27. Chris Meacham (Riddell)
28. James Petran (Riddell)
29. Jae Wilton (Macedon)
30. Brayden Allen (Riddell)
31. Cam Dawson (Romsey)
32. Rory Cross (Woodend-Hesket)
33. Jamie Cuffe (Sunbury Kangaroos)
34. Brenton Sutherland (Sunbury Kangaroos)
35. Warren Kairns (Romsey)
36. Tom Mainey (Rockbank)
37. Kane Bullen (Melton Central)
38. Craig Thompson (Diggers Rest)
39. Paul Podbury (Woodend-Hesket)
40. Leigh McInerney (Sunbury Kangaroos)
41. Simon Choate (Lancefield)
42. Shannon Galea (Wallan)
43. Steve James (Sunbury Kangaroos)
44. Nick Ash (Riddell)
45. Dave Henderson (Wallan)
46. Jay Shewan (Lancefield)
47. Jason King (Kilmore)
48. Dave Cornish (Wallan)
49. Daniel Sipthorp (Woodend-Hesket)
50. Caleb Plowman (Lancefield)

Did anyone back him with you Matt? Young coming second was a good result i would have thought.

Did anyone back him with you Matt? Young coming second was a good result i would have thought.

If I was running a market, which I was not (just to clarify) I would have paid out $1300 on Waters winning the Bowen. One bloke would have had $100 on him at $10 (he would have had three $100 bets on Waters, Chugg and Jose) and one Lancefield person would have had $20 on him at $15.

If Young had of won, I would have only had to pay out $750 if I was running a market.

I would have made $1100 profit last night with Waters winning, but if Jeremy Jose won and I was running a market, I would have lost $2250 of my own money.

But there was no betting on the Bowen Medal.

Anybody with the finals votes on the top 5.
With young dominating at Riddell this year it certainly took the focus of bellville although now 2 years in a row taken home the buffallo and 2 in a row as a bridesmaid to the Bowen.
Who were each clubs top vote getters?
Team of the year?

There was no print out of the votes like last year and the Bowen presentation slideshow happened so quickly I couldn't get them all down.

But as soon as I know I'll post them.
