Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

I would be worrying about the burras if I was you champ, not others clubs, and if you have nothing confirmed yet i would be worried if I was part of your club should all be done by now, just a quick one to mate Sunbury's two's would be top 4 in the RDFL anyway.

Nothing to worry about Sunba, just like others on here have mentioned will not discuss players at this stage.

Totally agree with u about sunbury 2s being top 4, having played there myself in 2005. Not too sure last years team would have though as they did struggle for numbers.

I would probably agree that the lions 2s did struggle with numbers this year but they are always are a very strong team, not sure who's possie they would take but pretty sure they could take it up to alot of the teams in the R.D.F.L.

Magpies bound for RDFL

by Matt Nicholls

WALLAN look set to make a return to the Riddell District Football League, after club members voted to leave the Northern Football League last week.
At a special general meeting chaired by Magpies president Neal Langborne last Wednesday night, 87 per cent of those who voted supported a move to the RDFL.
It was a 48-7 vote count, with the opposition seemingly coming from those from the Wallan Junior Football Club.
Officials from the RDFL and NFL spoke and answered questions regarding their competitions, and members also voiced their views for and against the proposal.
Kevin Crompton, general manager of the NFL, said they were looking at a six-year-plan to turn the competition into a three division league, with 10 teams in each.
As it stands, there are just 23 clubs in the Northern Football League.
This year there were 10 in division one and 14 in division two.
However, Kinglake, after finishing on the bottom of the second division ladder, have opted to move to the YarraValley league.
Should Wallan leave, the NFL’s six-year plan is thrown into disarray. All of a sudden they need eight new clubs.
When asked if the NFL would appeal against Wallan’s departure to AFL Victoria, Mr Crompton said that it would up to the league’s board to decide.
While Wallan’s members and administration support a move to the RDFL, they are still no certainty to be accepted.
Under the league’s constitution, the Magpies would need a majority of affiliated clubs to vote in favour of their return.
Currently 25 clubs comprise the RDFL, which includes senior and juniors. A quick ring around last week by The Free Press indicated there may be some opposition from one or two senior clubs.
Kilmore president Dayson Carroll indicated that the Blues would not vote in favour of Wallan’s application.
He said the main reason behind the decision was the fact that a bye would be created, with the Pies making it 11 senior teams in the senior competition.
Mr Carroll also expressed disappointment that Wallan left the RDFL in 2001, departing when the league was in danger of folding.
It is believed all other senior clubs except Riddell will vote in favour of Wallan’s transfer.
Riddell president Andrew Power said the club had not yet made a decision and would vote tonight.
All clubs will be expected to vote at the RDFL extraordinary meeting next Monday night (November 12).
While there may be some opposition from a small minority of senior clubs, those at Wallan should feel confident that they will have their application supported.

James returns!
by Matt Nicholls

POWERHOUSE forward Lee James will return to play for Riddell next year after a one-season stint at Murray Football League side Mulwala.
James, a former Bowen medallist and leading goalkicker for the Bombers in the Riddell District Football League, announced his intentions to return on Thursday night.
Known for his spectacular grabs and straight shooting for goal, James’ signing will no doubt boost the Bombers into early premiership favouritism.
“It’s a great signing. Lee is a great footballer and a great clubman,” said re-elected president Andrew Power.
Power also confirmed that Darrin Rowsell would coach the seniors for the fourth consecutive year.
Chris Meacher will coach the reserves, while Glen Elliott will continue moulding the Under 18s.
At the Bombers’ recent annual general meeting, Power said the club had posted a healthy $11,500 profit over the 2007 season.
Other major roles at Riddell are to be filled by the following people: Krishna Wilson (secretary), Leonie Gallier (treasurer), Terry Power (football manager), and John Morganti (chairman of selectors).
No doubt Power and his personnel will be hoping to go one better in 2008 and win their third flag in four years.

Is Giddings confirmed? I'd heard a whisper that he was going up north.

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Good articles; the only area where I beg to differ concerns the number of teams remaining in the NFL next season, should Wallan, as expected, go back to the RDFL. While Kinglake has also jumped ship, Reservoir is all but certain to come out of recess, so they'll be 23 senior teams (10 in Divvy 1, 13 in Divvy 2).

the most irrelevant post in an RDFL thread i have ever seen.

So it's irrelevant to point out when someone's made a mistake?

I know this is an RDFL forum, but for obvious reasons, the Wallan issue is very relevant to both the RDFL and NFL. Surely it can't hurt to have all of our facts straight?

im just eluding to the fact, that , the number of teams in the nfl has little to no significance in the happenings of the rdfl. fair enough lets get the facts rite but i think it was more a shot at matt, rather than an informative piece.????

Fair enough, mate - I admit I was being a bit pedantic.

I think there will be quite a few clubs from Melbourne's north/north-west shifting leagues in these next few years, with Wallan just the tip of the iceberg.

The RDFL's pretty well placed, being a league that encompasses both outer-suburban and country/regional clubs (a bit like the Mornington Peninsula league) - the fact that Scott McCartney and co are a proactive administration also helps quite a bit. But I can't see all three of the WRFL, NFL and EDFL surviving long-term, as there's just too much cross-over between their member clubs.

i can see your point. but at the mome i know edfl are thriving and with the money involved in that league cant see it going anywhere but up over hte next few years. The wrfl although not as strong as edfl is also in a great period the leagues thriving this years granny pulled about massive crowds and the eveness of the top 3-4 teams really attracts the crowds. i dont know enough about the nfl but the other 2 seem to be flourishing in the their respective 1st division comps

Seems everybody thinks that same comp means promotion relegation, from my understanding AFL vic wants 6 - 8 Vic leagues does not mean everyone in same comp, Nth Western league or (what ever you call it) to be EDFL in 1 or 2 or 3 Divis WFL in its own Divis RDFL in its own Divis all under the one banner. Southern the same, Geelong another, Northern ETC ETC.
No Metro/Country.

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

I think you might be on to something there HalfFul. I've heard a whisper that the grand plan is apparently to have metro regions of footy based on TAC Cup regions, with a centralised administration for VFL, talent (TAC U18), community footy.

For example:

Coburg (VFL)
Cannons
North West COmmunity Senior & Junior Footy League (Divisional structure)

Lots of work to do to have this happen, but it works in Northern states where it was set up with this structure. Basically see you later RDFL, EDFL, WRFL etc. It is shortly all to be under review by AFL Vic of the structure of football in the state. This has all come about because of the recent Second-Tier review.

Does anyone have more information about the new coaches ? Namely Spry and Goodwin ? Also any update out of Romsey yet ?

Re: R.d.f.l Thread 2008

Hey right foot sloth Lee Spry was a pretty handy footballer except for some injuries that slowed him down. I think he played at North Footscray in Div 2 WRFL for many years and was a very good player there and has also played at Gordon which I think he may have been involved in some sort of coaching capacity there this year. He generally has a few mates that will follow him where ever he goes some will play and some will help raise money for the club through the bar. Doesn't mind a few quiet ones either. Should be good for Rockbank though pretty knowlodgeable with football and has never played football for the money.

Are you still at Glen Eira?
