Just wondering how the Woodend and Wallan sides found the venue /surface /facilities etc ,on the weekend

I know no one really cares about the umpires, but the change rooms were unacceptable. The size was about as big as a walk in robe; it had a toilet without a basin to wash your hands and no shower. This is not acceptable for senior football. Only two umpires at a time could get change while the rest had to stand outside, if it was raining it would have been a joke. In terms of the ground, it was fine. It was a little soft in patches, but I was at Riddell last week and that ground was far worse.

I had a look at Boardman Today not in good condition sounds as though there is a few ground not up to scratch it wasnt that long ago we were worried about Dry grounds Where will finals be played.

At a pinch though ump, was better than no game at all. If it make you feel better,the timekeepers area wasnt much better. Most sight of ground was blocked by Woodend coaches etc (not that they could help it). Also got bloody cold just before start of firsts.

In regards to the umpires room could it be as bad as ours at sunbury that will be upgraded in the next year or so with the capital works improvements.
As for Riddels ground it was pretty bad yesterday in perhaps 50% of it. The only way it will be acceptable for a final in 4 weeks is if it doesn't rain between now and then, to sink 4 to 5 inches makes it hard to play football

Boardman is not as bad as it looks, yes it looks like there is no grass due to the council changing to a warm season grass therefore it is dormant this time of year. At least it is level with no ups and downs. It generally doesn't get that boggy that you sink more than inch and the wind always helps it dry out quickly. After a roll before the final it will be fine.

Week 3 Prelim at Romsey

everything was good except for the ground.seeing as i nearly rolled my ankle on the ground then did roll it badly,due to the ground being ridiculously soft in some areas and just moved way to easy under foot

Saw that and didnt look too good, hope it pulls up ok for you. Although might not matter as the Hawks did ur finals chances no favours.

Would just like to mention a concern I have in the Under 18 comp.It seems to me that if your player/players are related to the coaching staff lol they are not part of the player rotations that all the others are.Every week we see the same people (rested), or just taken off for a rest, bar you know who.Then they wonder why the players are'nt happy, how about being consistent.Football is supposed to a TEAM game and no player/s are bigger than the team,even if your the coach's son/s.Maybe if there was a fair system in place you would'nt have the bickering on the side lines.We all go to see the kids have a game of footy and have fun doing it,and hopefully go on to Seniors.All I'm asking is not to play favorites just be fair.

In all seriousness though, Under 18 level is a tough one because you are heading into senior football, a lot of coaches at Under 18 level do become consumed with the win, it is hard not too when that is what everyone directs you to do.. Really, it should be about the development still, as much as you can help it, and it should certainly be about bringing the level from the bottom up to the top if you can, or at least close the gap.....

Went down to the Riddell oval on Saturday with high expectations of seeing a pretty good contest. Riddell 1st v Sunbury 3rd – It augured well for a great tune up game before Finals commence in three weeks time.

Both teams had players missing from their starting line ups. Riddell welcomed back the reigning Bowen Medalist Aaron Blade after a considerable lay off due to a knee injury.

The first quarter started with Leigh Fishenden going up against Glenn Robertson in the ruck contest. Fishenden is an absolute jet ! He is an athletic giant of a player, with a dynamic leap that is almost impossible to match. I think he has to be the best “pure” ruckman going around competition these days. How the Lions let this guy go is just plain baffling. He easily won the first contest with Sunbury quickly moving the ball forward resulting in a strong mark by evergreen big man Cuffe positioned up forward. He made no mistake from the resulting shot on goal, & the Kangas were away. Riddells on ballers started sharking the big Fish’s tap outs, with Liddell & Climas starting to work themselves into the game. Blade slipped into the side like he hadn’t been missing these past months & was starting to get plenty of it. A long bomb from Climas sailed through the big sticks. Then one each to Liddell & Elliott saw the Bombers start to flex their muscle. Nick Ash was getting his hands on the pill across half back & pumping it forward. The tackling pressure of both sides was a feature of the opening stanza, as was the positional changes by BOTH coaches, as they made more moves than a “King street pole dancer”. The Bombers went into the huddle at the quarter time break with a 16 points margin.

The second quarter saw Bradyn Allen moved into the centre with immediate affect. The Bombers won the clearance, moving it forward to where the elusive Micky Allen marked & goaled. Joeb Ploog was working hard across halfback for the Roos but another goal to Hadyn Ross ment Riddell were starting to get on top. Sunbury had to dig deep to stay in touch…… & that’s exactly what they did, kicking the next two goals. One to David Caccamo, who was working hard. And a late major to the big Fish who had been moved forward. The Bombers went in at the long break with a 22 point advantage.

Sunbury started the second half full of run with Ryan Hatty & Mitchel Streiff lifting their work rates getting plenty of the ball. An early goal to the unstoppable Fishenden looked as if it may spark the Roos into a third quarter fight back. But Riddell quickly answered with a classy goal to Sammut & another in classic style with Bradyn Allen streaming through the centre, kicking long to his little brother Micky, who marked & goaled.
With Fishenden up forward Allen now dominated the stoppages. Liddell & Climas were racking up the stats driving the ball forward, but Riddell were wasting opportunities. Selfish play saw them blaze away at goal kicking 2 goals EIGHT for the quarter. Bombers up by 36 points at the last change.

The last quarter was shit ! (as a contest) Riddell had 11 shots on goal, for a return of 5 goals 6 points, to Sunbury’s one point. Sunbury had chucked in the towel ! & it was painful to watch. (after last weeks cracker against the Cats)

What I learned from Round 16

• Both Romsey and Diggers are proud clubs that are fighting desperately hard & digging deep to play in this seasons Finals series.
• A gallant Wallan has been put out of their misery & are now out of the 2010 Finals race.
• Woodend has something to work with as they look to rebuild for 2011…………& a new home ground to boot !
• The Redbacks are well and truly the real deal.. And are coming good at the right end of the season. Sure to cause some excitement & go deep into the Finals.
• Kilmore are currently being exposed for not having all the ingredients to be a serious contender in 2010. Next week spells 3 loses on the trot for them.
• Complacency has no place in a successful football team. EVER !
• 17 comes after 16 & this is way too hard.

Highly unlikely that it was a report, stuff like that makes it on here pretty quickly... The probability that the actual incident was expanded to make it sound worse is probably high too..

What a massive week of games this week... So much riding on so many games...

Riddell - Locked up top spot, with Broadford and Centrals in the next two weeks the Bombers will freshen some players up and cruise into the first week.

Lancefield - With 2nd spot locked up the Tigers have a couple of finals aspirants to face up too in the next 2 weeks. They will be out to make a statement.

Sunbury Kangaroos - Safe in 3rd, should win their last two, but also have a chance to freshen a couple of players up for finals. In a pretty good position.

Kilmore - Could be interesting if they drop one of the last two, a big game against the Burra this week, but even if they do drop it, they have enough percentage to hold on to 4th. Drop both and they could miss.

Diggers Rest - Two massive games for the Burra, they must win one to make it. They will be throwing everything into this weeks game. A win, they play finals, a loss, and everything will rest on the Lancefield game the following week.

Macedon - Tough ask this week against the Tigers. A win will assure them a finals spot if Diggers lose. A loss coupled with a Diggers win and it will be fireworks.. If that happens, the Cats WILL miss finals.

Romsey - Should win both games now and will make it, should finish 5th as Diggers and Macedon are likely to only win one of their two at best. Will finish 6th if the Cats beat Lancefield, will miss if the Cats and Burra win both unless they can boost their percentage significantly...

So in review, much of the make up of the finals rests in the hands of the Tigers. Win both games and the Redbacks will certainly play finals. A loss to either the Cats or the Burra will mean a finals spot for the side that manages the win. But so much also rests on this weeks game. Diggers Vs Kilmore. Could be one of the biggest games of the year!!!

Actually... I have seen that quite a bit this year where two of the best players on the ground have opposed each other, especially from Ruckmen...

Easy answer to that one Cossie5, just ask Brayden Allen who he thought was best on the ground and who he thinks is the hardest ruckman in the league for him to match up on, Fish was dominant all day.

How did you change your user name? I saw a post on here saying exactly what you said just 1 minute after my post and it was from someone with a username of 'fishendon'. Did you accidentally use your wrong alias?

FWIW i agree you are both very good players and you may well have deserved some votes. but in a game where the opposition had 26 more scoring shots i just thought they would have had a number of contenders for bog.

He left the Lions 4 or 5 years ago as he struggled to get a game. Tim Little was the number 1 ruckman so the Fish was always going to be a back up ruckman. The Lions have let a lot of players go since then which has helped them to top spot on the ladder. Thought it might be a Sunba double with Lions and Roos but now more likely a Power double.

I dont believe the TWO players ever went head to head in the game on Saturday either champ ??? So thats why they BOTH figured prominently in my votes !

Perhaps he was a late developer. The bloke is 6' 15" can jump & can kick the ball seventy meters without trying. Stevie Wonder could've seen his Footballing potential ! .............. & letting a champion game breaker like Tim Little WALK,..... well, that was just plain ludicrous & stupid !

Fish reluctantly left the Lions because he moved to Essendon in 2004, the same year he played every game in the one's except when injured (including the 2004 senior bfl premiership win). He lost his driver's license for 12 months at the end of the 2004 season and had difficulty getting back and forwards from Essendon to Sunbury, that was his sole reason for leaving. Once living in Essendon he played 2 seasons at Aberfeldie and 2 at Airport West as both clubs were very close to home. He was drawn back to Sunbury Kangaroos with the desire to play with close school friends.
