I know alot of folk who are turned off not only by the entry price ($20 for the grand final i think ), which is alot of money to pay to stand up all day, especially in the rain and now $4 a beer etc. If you get to lancefield before 9am you might get a park but after that Im pretty sure you have to park down the back or out the front somewhere. Last week at Romsey I went to the TAB at half time of the two's and forgot to get a passout, upon entry I was accosted by one of the rdfl gestapo who treated me like a felon, it was only upon showing her my betting slip that she believed I had left the ground, I even offered to show her where my car was parked (on the wing ), still no respite. Lucky the romsey prez walked past and collaborated my story. Very greedy of you RDFL. Good Luck Diggers.

sounds like you need a phone account Sprechen!!

Was having a chat to a well known rdfl identity on saturday and he was telling me that he is very keen to get back into the coaching ranks again.
He will be chasing the macedon gig reasonably hard.
As nothing would give him more satisfaction than taking over from the cats current coach !

I have heard a couple people may be interested, is it official they are after a new coach, which other clubs are now on the market for a new coach.

Is the Macedon gig up for grabs is it? Surely Al Meldrum would be a chance - runs on the board as a premiership coach at a standard slightly up on RDFL and probly would have recruiting options. Pretty sure over this way Broadford, Kilmore, Wallan have all placed ads in the local rag. Lancefield obviously on the hunt, Woodend too Im told so there's five jobs already.

Yea FC are also looking for a coach for anyone possibly based around the Whittlease/Epping area, or someone with access to the Maroondah Hwy thru Yarra Glen :thumbsu:

Ha ha dont think so mate I'm still not 100% after taking crook last year, although the phone calls this time of year are always flattering. After 8-9 years in a few different roles Ive finally got a pretty happy balance and enjoyed being home every night to see my kids this season - besides the last two years on my resume dont read too well ;)

Fair enough big fella. I wouldn't worry too much about those last 2 years those who know footy knew and know what you bring to the table. If your not gunna coach anywhere for a while you can help us out with our recruiting:D:D:D

RDFL 2010 Season - Under 18 Grand Final

Under 18 Grand Final
Macedon FC Vs Kilmore FNC

Sunday 19th September - Lancefield 9.30am
(Last time, Qualifying Final - Macedon 10.10.70 def Kilmore 8.13.61)
The best two sides in the Under 18 competition all year face off this week in what will be an outstanding battle to determine the Premiers or 2010.
3 weeks ago these two sides played out a gripping qualifying final match, the Cats bounced out of the blocks to control the game early, holding an 18 point lead at half time and a 34 point lead at 3 quarter time before the Blues came storming home, if it wasn't for the Blues inaccuracy in front of goal in the final term the result could have been completely different. The keys for the Cats will be the same keys as that day. Lachlan Plowman and Mark Strickland will play a massive role in the effectiveness of the Cats while Codey Phillips and Tom Snaith will do the same for the Blues. It has almost become a trademark of the Blues this finals campaign to run over the top of their opposition so the Cats will need to hit the scoreboard hard early and hang on for dear life as the game progresses. The Blues have plenty of run for the entire day which makes them all the more dangerous, while the Cats have more players capable of impacting the contest with their marking ability. Whatever way this game goes, it is sure to be a cracking contest and one well worth the viewing, as all of the curtain raisers have been so far in this finals series.

The Key Player:
Macedon - Mark Strickland
Kilmore - Thomas Snaith

The highlight reel:
Macedon - Lachlan Plowman
Kilmore - Codey Phillips

Who will win?
Both sides are stocked with ability. The Cats have some true future stars in the line up with Plowman, Strickland and Kindred, while the Blues have the keys to put on a show for the crowd. Snaith, Traynor and Phillips. A lot could ride on the Douglas/Stickland match up. If Strickland can get on top it will negate the attack that Douglas provides. The midfield battle will be a treat. But the difference in these two sides will be the addition of Dan Markworth and Josh Clough to the Cats line up, both are guns and might be just too much for the Blues to deal with. This will be a ripping start to the day and well worth the watch.

BOG Medal - Daniel Markworth (Macedon).

RDFL 2010 Season - Reserves Grand Final

Reserves Grand Final
Riddell FNC Vs Macedon FNC

Sunday 19th September - Lancefield 12.00pm
(Last time, Qualifying Final - Riddell 13.4.82 d Macedon 9.7.61)
The two top sides at the end of the home and away season will battle out this weeks Reserves Grand Final in a fitting curtain raiser to the big game. The Bombers have proven that their second side is just as dominant as their first side in recent weeks with two powerful wins against their main rivals for the 2010 premiership. The win against Macedon in the first week, even though in the end less than 4 goals was convincing, they were clearly the best side for the entire day, but that is where the worry lies for the Bombers, because the Cats hung around all day, where the Riddell side will go in without many changes, the Cats have added players to the side that fell short 3 weeks ago. The battle could be won or lost through the middle of the ground. Bomber ruckman Mick Burnett dominated the first final and the Cats will need a better match up if they are to be competitive, he gave the Bomber midfield the ball on a platter which put the Cats defense under pressure straight off the bat. There is no doubt the Cats back six is much more settled with Rob Belcher back in the side and he will get the job on Gadsden which will be a ripping match up. The question for the fans will be if Al Meldrum comes up from his sore knee from the second week of the finals, if he does he is a big headache for the Bombers as they lack big key defenders to go with him. On the flip side, the serious knee injury to Scott Knight last week hurts the Cats midfield depth, an area the Bombers are strong, Anthony Power and Adam Sutherland provide the grunt, while Kane North provides run and a long penetrating kick inside the attacking 50. Both sides have played some outstanding football all year and this week will be no different, a cracking contest should be expected.

The Key Player:
Riddell - Anthony Power
Macedon - Stuart O'Connor

The highlight reel:
Riddell - Troy Mariner
Macedon - Matthew Johnstone

Who will win?
The battle to get on top early could see this turn into an arm wrestle. A lot will depend on the make up of the Cats side coming into the game as it is a little up in the air at the moment, which may or may not unsettle them. The Bombers have been the standout side all year though and will be tough for the Cats to topple.

RDFL 2010 Season - Senior Grand Final

RDFL Grand Final
Sunday 19th September - 2.30PM

Lancefield

Riddell FNC Vs Diggers Rest FNC
Last time they met:
Round 7
Diggers Rest FNC 7.7.49 lost to Riddell FNC 13.10.88

As far as the past 6 years go, the rivalry between Riddell and Diggers Rest is as strong as any in the competition. This year will mark the 3rd time these two have met in the biggest game of the year in the past 6 years. A wonderful acheivement for both of these stalwart clubs of the RDFL.

Diggers Rest
Well, they did it again, the Burra, the perennial underdog, faced yet another challenge that they were able to conquer when most believed they couldn't. For 8 weeks now people have been writing the Burra off, but now there are many that simply believe that maybe, just maybe, they can finally fulfil what they have been striving to acheive for the past 6 years. That elusive RDFL senior premiership. Once again, the Burra played a tight, one on one, shut down brand of football, rarely giving their opponents space and time and made sure that the game was played on their terms, a credit to them and the time they put into the game style that they want to play. This week they once again face a monumental task, and once again, anyone not based within the walls down at Diggers Rest gives them little hope. The Burra have belief in themselves though and each of the players that run out onto the ground believes in their teammate to win the contest that they are faced with, they will need every inch of that belief today. Over the past 6 years, has there been a more deserving side of premiership glory, the entire club from the coaching staff down have been nothing but loyal to the cause, this loyalty for each other will hold them in good stead this week. Once again the Burra will need to play to their strength, using the designated players throughout the ground to make an impact, they will need to shut the game down and play at their chosen tempo, making the most of their opportunity when they go forward. They have a talented forward line capable of kicking a winning score, but more importantly, they have a disciplined midfield and defensive unit that is determined to do whatever is required to keep their opponents from scoring at the other end. The Burra will need to try to get on top early to give themselves the measure, they like to get a couple of goals in front and are happy to go goal for goal after that, in the end, that will result in a premiership for this group.
Strength: They are a pure team, every action is a supporting action of a team mate. They have a structured game plan that means when the chips are down they know exactly what they need to go back to doing to bring back the balance of the contest. They might not have the biggest superstars running around, but they have balance and a tremendous amount of heart.
Weakness: They are put out of their comfort zone when the support isn't available. If the players are left to fend individually in contests they can tend to become uncomfortable. When pressured through the midfield, they can make quite noticable errors, blatant turnovers that leave the back six vunerable.

Key Players:
Shane Marchewka - Another big week for "Chewy", up against Brayden Allen, his output is essential to the Burra's success or failure.
Shaun Sims - BOG last week, needs a big game this week, when he is on, the whole side is on.
Cole Laurie - Could turn the game on it's head, hasn't had many of those games more recently but always capable, for the sake of everyone in attendance I hope he has one Sunday, when flying he is brilliant to watch.

Riddell
The Bombers come into this game as the clear stand alone side at the top of the tree in 2010. They conquered all comers this year and deserve to be outright favorites for this weeks game. During the two finals they have played so far they have stamped themselves head and shoulders above the competition. Across the ground the Bombers have the best spread of talent, from the forward 50 which is capable of kicking a big score through star forwards Mick Allen, Matt Baird and Cam McCabe, the Bombers biggest danger is that the other guys in the forward 50 fly so nicely under the radar, Haydn Ross, Dean Besanko, Rick Elliott, Ben Sonogan and co regularly contribute heavily to the scoring in their own right, making the forward set up extremely dangerous. The Bomber midfield has proved that it is the standout midfield of the competition in 2010. Led in the ruck by Brayden Allen, the smaller brigade can tear apart an opposition in the matter of minutes. James Climas, Aaron Blade, Cameron Casson, Matt Sammut and Gerard Liddell make up the nucleus of an almost unstoppable machine in the middle of the ground. It doesn't become any easier for their opponents when it comes to the backline either. Led by skipper Jason Allen along with Nick Ash, Glen Robertson, Xavier Codd and Simon Whittle, the Bombers back six is stable and damaging, if they get running and moving the football, they can be tougher to shut down than the midfield. This week the Bombers, who have been on a mission in 2010 have an opportunity to once and for all prove that they are the best side in the competition and win the premiership that they believe rightly belongs to them.
Strength: Balance across the ground. It is what makes the Bombers so tough to crack. If you somehow are able to close down one or two, there is always another popping up to do the damage. With the belief they have in each of their teammates, they are an extremely tough opponent to find holes in.
Weakness: Pressure. The only times that I have seen the Bombers struggle this year is when one on one pressure was applied all over the ground. In the game against Kilmore, the first half against the Kangaroos (the first time) and against Lancefield in the first quarter of the first final, the Bombers were constantly pushed onto the back foot with pressure on the ball carrier, the only time they looked truly vunerable.

Key Players:
Michael Allen - Everyone knows that he can get 4 opportunities and kick 4 goals, so whoever ends up with the job has a big day ahead, Allen must be shut down.
Nick Ash - Always does a big job, but people underestimate his worth coming out of defence, an excellent user of the ball who could set up the Bombers going forward.
Michael Sammut - The Bombers need a huge game from Sammut, he has a big contest with Heritage, both are key targets using the football for their sides, the one that gets on top could give his side the advantage.

Game Key
Grand Final pressure. We have seen it every year, it can affect anyone, in one way or another, the problem is, it only needs to have an impact on 2 or 3 players in one side and the whole face of the game could change.

Key Match-ups
James Climas (Riddell) Vs Stuart Clarke (DR) - Two similar styled footballers, both will put their heads over the ball to create an advantage for their side, will be fantastic to watch these two go head to head.
Brayden Allen (Riddell) Vs Shane Marchewka/Dan Poynton (DR) - This match up could prove critical to the final outcome of this game. Marchewka and Poynton need to work Allen over, making sure his influence around the ground is quelled.
Jason Allen (Riddell) Vs Shaun Sims (DR) - These two may not go head to head, then again, they just might. But the real battle is the leadership they will show their respective clubs. Both are considered the leading leaders in the competition and both are a major reason as to why these two clubs are meeting in this game.

Questions waiting to be answered
  • Can the Burra actually do it, there would be no side more deserving, but are they good enough?
  • Who will suffer through the pressure of Grand Final football?
  • Could we be facing one of the tightest Grand Finals in recent history?
Verdict
After another long season it all comes down to this, there is nothing after this weekend for another year. For the 3rd time in 6 years we see the Bombers and the Burra battle it out. The previous 2 times saw an unsettled Burra line up, not so much the case this year, they are flying and in great form, but so are the Bombers. Can the Burra put enough pressure on the ball carrier on a bigger, wider ground, I can't wait for this game, its the game we wait all year for!!

Re: RDFL 2010 Season - Under 18 Grand Final

Nice write up IMS..... apart from the last bit... you must have really had a Mad Monday this week. You asked for courage last week to have a dip at everyone and anyone, don't need to do that this weeks with the bendovers losing last week.

Ton of respect for Hopkins as a coach and the Burra as Club, but honestly if the burra play that hold up/slow brand of footy they will kick 6-7 goals like last week. This score will not win this flag.

Bombers by 10 GOALS.

Now retired from Big Footy over and out!!

No mad monday for me... Only a supporter of the game now...

2010 RDFL GRAND FINAL PLAYER PROFILE.

Riddell -

[27] Brayden Allen - Athletic superstar, that can do all. Has all the atributes to play AFL (like his younger brother did) & will be unstoppable as always.

[14] Jason Allen [c] - Captain courageous, that leads from the front & lets his action onfield do the talking for him. Will be the architect for much of Riddells grunt across the halfback line.

[6] Mick Allen - Classy, hard at it, no nonsense forward that makes the
most of every opportunity. WILL kick goals, its just a question of how many.

[9] Nicholas Ash - Hugely under rated defender, that has had an
absolutely stella season. Will give plenty of drive off the full back line & is always dangerous when running of the forwards.

[37] Mathew Baird - Has slotted in down forward as if he was born there. Provides another potent avenue to goals & can take a wonderful grab. One to watch for the high light reel.

[7] Dean Besanko - Evergreen veteran that has earned his shot at another Premiership with determination & hard work. Smart & experienced player, that does all the 1%ers with second nature. Just a great team man.

[33] Aaron Blade - Laughing all the way to the bank since making his much heralded return to the Bomber fold. Will stick it up those ignorant detractors of his, with another valuable & solid perfomance in another Grand Final.

[4] Cameron Casson - Elusive, hard at it running utility type player that gathers plenty of the ball. Can be very damaging when streaming forward. Is able to hurt the opposition by kicking goals also.

[2] Xavier Codd - Another hard at it utility, that can play anywhere. Goes about his business with a minimum of fuss & can bob up & be damaging with a goal or two when the opportunity arises.

[77] Ricky Elliott - Fast, elusive half forward/winger type that has the ability to find space. Good overhead one grab mark & is able to kick the ball long into forward line or through the big sticks for the odd major.

[51] Darcy Grant - Incredibly fast half forward that is a very good mark for his size. Courageous & tenacious ball player that works very hard to keep the pill in Riddells forward half. Can make an impact on the score board as well.

[18] Gerard Liddell - Hard working little man with a huge heart & a big engine. Will be instrumental for Riddell in the mid field & at the stoppages. Will get heaps of the ball & rarely turns it over. A real show to take out Grand Final Medal.

[12] Cameron McCabe - Another versatile quality mid fielder type player that puts his head over the ball & isn’t afraid to run through the lines. Expect to see a lot of damaging run & carry footy from McCabe as he streams forward.

[35] Murray McDougall - Dour no nonsense defender that compliments & fits in beautifully down back. Runs hard & is able to perform a stopping role or go into the mid field if the situation presents.

[3] Grant Puxley - Out & out young champion of the future. Has it all, strong mark, great long kick, courageous, uses the ball well, & has a cool head in the heat of battle that belies his youth. Watch for him to make a significant contribution in the match.

[43] Glen Robertson - A big game lifter in previous Grand Final appearances. Tenacious tall that gives his all & doesn’t take a backwards step. Will make a valued contribution what ever role he plays on Grand Final day.

[19] Haydn Ross - Young gun wingman that is absolutely flying this season. Finds space at will & links up perfectly in Riddells forays forward. Will get plenty of posessions & also is a goal kicker given half a chance.

[44] Matt Sammut - Another quality mid field option that finds plenty of the ball. Works hard, runs all day & provides theb Bombers with plenty of drive from the centre & from the stoppages. Can kick the odd goal as well.

[17] Ben Sonogan - Another under rated young gun that has had an injury interrupted season. Plays tall, takes a lovely one grab mark & is a raking long kick. Is very good below his knees & is not intimidated by the big occasion. Lancefield oval should suit Ben right down to ground & I expect a break out performance from him come game day.

[53] Trevor Towers - Impact utility type whos endeavour cannot be questioned. Will be battling hard. Can play in the mid field or forward & has the capacity to hurt the opposition if given any latitude.

2010 RDFL GRAND FINAL PLAYER PROFILE.

Diggers Rest

2. Steve Ruane - Former Bowen Medallist, a certain game breaker. Skilful and can take a big mark, a key for the Burra's up forward.

3. John Ryan - Young key position defender, has a fantastic attack on the ball and uses it well. Could hold a key to the Burra structure on Sunday.

4. Shaun Sims - The outstanding captain of the competition. Strong overhead and has the ability to be a game breaker, needs a big game for the Burra to be in the contest.

5. Bevan Green - Now a veteran defender, not flasy by any means but gets the job done every week. A booming kick and uses it to break the game up.

7. Jeff Heritage - Veteran midfielder that can be a barometer for the Burra. Racks up possession through the middle of the ground and uses the ball superbly.

9. Tom Gleeson - Young utility that truly does play everywhere, even used in the ruck at stages this year, an important part of the Burra balance this week.

11. Daniel McCabe - Elusive forward, can be hard to match up on especially if he gets going early, would love to kick a bag.

12. Kris Marsh - Versatile defender, finds space and gets alot of the ball in the back half and through the middle. Uses the ball well so the Burra make him a target.

13. Michael Hildebrand - One of the truly reliable performers in the competition, every week the Burra know exactly what they will get from him, has played mostly defensive in 2010.

14. Daniel Poynton - Big strong key position player. Played a lot in the ruck during the finals series but can be used defensively or forward.

18. Lindsay Black - Started the season rucking, but the return of Marchewka saw him play CHB for most of the second half of the year, will have a big job this week.

19. Stuart Clarke - Super talented midfielder that won the Burra's B&F. Will hopefully go head to head with Climas, they will go all day, hard at it and only knows one way, that is win the ball.

20. Brad Sluggett - Pacy wingman, has had a few injuries and been a little quieter during the 2010 season, but if he gets out in space can be very damaging.

21. Craig Marshall - Hard at it midfielder that has been a fantastic addition to the Burra in 2010. Will be right in the thick of things come Sunday.

22. Jason Davies - Highly skilled defender, but he can play many roles throughout the backline and through the midfield. Has played key back as well as attacking back through the year.

23. Cole Laurie - Could be a difference maker on Sunday, is capable of being the highlight reel for the Burra. Explosive speed off the mark and a booming left foot kick.

25. Shane Marchewka - His role will be pivitol, capable of dominating a game if it is the right day. All Burra fans will be hoping Sunday is one of those.

28. Ian Spiteri - Pacy midfield forward. Finds the footy and provides run and carry. Slips under the guard of opponents.

33. Dylan Kite - Extremely talented youngster, had a breakout year last year and has continued his good form this year. Will give the Burra options up forward and through the midfield.

37. Jack Sheahan - Won the Under 18's B&F, a key position player. Hurt himself last week and could be under a cloud, but if he plays watch for towering marks and the one handed pick up.

40. Leigh Rust - Another who gets under the guard of the opposition. Hit up target across the half forward line with a fantastic set of hands.

58. Ben Hannan - Dour tagger who always gives his all, if given a job he will do everything in his power to shut his opponent down.
