There's a meme that comes up in my feed every now and then about going to the video shop and Pizza Hut on a Friday night was everything you could ever want as a kid. Some serious nostalgia there.

When we were kids growing up in the 70’s Pizza Hut was a fine dining experience - before they started the all you can eat

Piping hot pizzas with melty cheese that would obliterate the skin at the roof of your mouth.

Don’t know what they did but the crust was so crunchy and there were pockets of air throughout the crust/ base

No pizza I’ve had since comes close

Mid 80's for us but I too recall Pizza Hut being kinda fancy. Home delivery was definitely not a thing back then.

Probably like "steak-house" tier kind of a restaurant.

Did anyone go to Lonestar (I think it was) where you ate peanuts and threw the shells on the floor and they'd jump on the tables to sing happy birthday to people

Was the only place that you could get ribs back then. They had to stop the peanuts coz some dip shit slipped and suied them.

And there was the old jizz steak urban myth that didn't help them either.

I don't doubt it

It was simpler with so much less to worry about than what kids have to deal with now

To a degree it was blissful ignorance because the amount of information to deal with was almost non-existent in comparison

And less pressure on what your future plans were.

I’m sure there was a darker underbelly that you weren’t exposed to as kids but you just weren’t aware of it if it did exist

Anyone remember the playstation(?) advert where the guy sends his steak back to the kitchen?

Yeah I hear you, even in the 80's and early 90's you'd only get info once a day on the news at night or if you read the West when it was actually decent. Now it's just constant bombardment of shit and bad news.

I do like hearing about the time before written history

It was better than now I’ll give you the tip

Most things are as far as dine in food specifically, and the food industry in general, are concerned.

The cost of serving good quality food at an affordable "ish" price point, has long gone, due to the exorbitant costs associated with owning and running a business.

Over the past decade the cost of regulatory and legislative compliance have eroded ( and them some) any gains in improved manufacturing productivity and supply chain efficiencies in the food industry.
Sadly, I suspect that this is a common theme in most industries.

People bitch and moan when the cost of food goes up and don't understand that the manufactures and growers are actually making less than they used to ..... So????? who's cleaning up and making good coin out of the food you buy .... the lawyers, the insurance companies, the civil servants who administer and oversee the compliance and of course the majors ( AKA as the price gougers ) are benefiting the most: Coles, Woolworths, Aldi and the IGA's

5 weeklies from Video Ezy where I would power through obscure 80s and 90s movies. Take me back.

Went to Lonestar once as a kid. Don't recall the peanut shells (wtf was that anyway? Filthy, and common sense not to throw them on the floor). Do recall the random, ad-hoc boot scooting and the embarrassment of my mum getting up and joining them.
The thought of this made me laugh enough for the dogs to run over and see what was going on

Been a struggling market for all you can eat buffet style dining, the Hut and izzler.
pushed out of the market by your food court style places?
