No draft picks can replace a player of levers quality.
If he goes it will be the biggest disaster we have seen and we've seen some beautys, at least we got some good footy out of danger but for lever to want out after a couple of seasons the club wont be able to put a good spin on this,

Lever going would hurt more than any other.
Sick of this shit with this club.
If true, not even sure what we invest ourselves into anymore when we're just a development playground with a revolving door.
Hope the club is correct in making statements like that and these others are way off.
Will :'(

Well, guys like Lever and McGovern should take a look at the little club down the road to see what loyalty is like.. they seem to have no problem resigning players and the players seem to be falling over themselves to put pen to paper. If Lever goes, the the club had better extract a topline young midfielder in exchange or call lever's bluff and make him walk to the draft, he does not get to a club of his choosing and ends up at Brisbane who would surely not pass up on lever as a freebe where he can kick his heels down the bottom of the ladder for a few more years.

The crows identified Lever way back and took a big punt on him in the draft after the injury lever had and now they simply must put up an offer that wards off other clubs. Lever must resign or it sends the worst possible message to the other players and any future players about long term success

Lever for Coll 2017 1st and 2018 2nd thanks.

This is shit, Cleary's usually on the money

very very astute. if theres anyone we want him to go to, its to collingwood. buckley will be gone, and they are stuck with wells and a few other midfield top ups. we need to raid their midfield, because by all accounts, that midfield should be a top 4 midfield. i think this will happen.

******* disgrace, what the hell are we doing with our salary cap.
Wasting it on mediocre players to keep them at the club so they don't do a runner on us, cos they're so irreplaceable and all that.
Remember how Melbourne tried to squeeze Mackay from our grip so we had to overpay compared to his worth?
I bet they laughed and probably achieved what they wanted anyway, putting salary cap pressure on us for a poor player.

Can't remember who it was from the club saying about how we won't pay anyone (the guns) well above what others are getting.
We spread a lot more money to the middle to low tier players than most or all other clubs I fear.
Yay us.

We have plenty of room. The question is if we choose to spend 800k of the cap on Lever or not.

Obviously the less we have to pay him the better.
We will. If we don't we need shooting.

One thing I am getting sick of with this league is the annual mass exodus of players going back home to Victoria, if the reverse was happening the AFL would have acted on it already for "the good of the game".

I can go back even further, but even the last two years paints a very bleak picture of the current recruiting system.

Number of players that returned home to Victoria vs number of players who left Victorian teams to go home.

2016

6 players left non Vic sides to return home to Victoria
2 players left Vic sides to return home to WA

2015
8 players left non Vic sides to return home to Victoria
1 player left Vic side to return home to SA
1 player left Vic Side to return home to QLD

Out of 18 players that returned home to/from Victorian sides.

14 went to Victoria (77%)
1 to SA (5.5%)
2 to WA (11%)
1 to QLD (5.5%)

If the current trend continues the league MUST make it harder for players to leave prior to becoming free agents because to be honest if the current trend continues supporters outside of Victoria will eventually lose interest due to having the deck stacked against them because of the unfairness of the system.

Your maths is ******* terrible.
If it's 200K over the course of 4 years then it's terrible. Surely we wouldn't be offering 200K less per year.

If that's the case I don't blame him for moving.

The league has been set up (read "rigged") to succeed from the eastern seaboard ever since Jackson left and Demetriou took over. If they had any intention of making the competition fairer then they would've culled two (minimum) Victorian teams 15 years ago for a start.

I reckon it's per yr. Roo and Reid are cheapskates. Low ballers.
