The league has been set up (read "rigged") to succeed from the eastern seaboard ever since Jackson left and Demetriou took over. If they had any intention of making the competition fairer then they would've culled two (minimum) Victorian teams 15 years ago for a start.
I can see why they have kept the teams from a historical standpoint, Fitzroy is now just a weird historical footnote and I would hate to see another team end up like that.
I am not against a team moving to Tasmania and keeping their history tied to that Tasmania team ala what happened with South Melbourne and the now Sydney Swans, but I would hate to see the AFL end up like the Ugly League with a whole heap of merged frankensides that have no real history to them.
I actually like that the AFL have tried to preserve the history of the teams within the league, but there has to be a better recruitment model that actually makes it farer for the non Victorian teams.
