Realistic expectations from 2013 onwards?

If our key players stay healthy through the year, and Viney and Toumpas can make some kind of impact in the midfield, I could see us push for 8th spot.

I think maybe people are underestimating how significant the Dawes and Pederson signings are for our structure.

Don't care about wins and losses, if we play well that will take care of itself, just want to regain the respect of the AFL community, I'm sick of being the laughing stock of the comp.

Richmond are always there to help out.

I'd just like us to be more competitive and not get thrashed. I'd also love to see some hoodoos get broken. Would be happy with 7-10 wins with at least 1 win interstate and a win or two against any of St Kilda, North, Richmond and the WB. Been far too long. Also a win at Etihad would be nice too!

I can see us getting at least 6-8 games, which will include scalps like GWS and GC SUNS, and ofcourse the bombers again with an added surprise here and there.

We should get the win in round one against Port, that will be a good booster for our boys.

i just hope the consistency can slowly appear, and our players dont allow that period of time where the whole team just seems to be running out of legs.

ladder prediction : 12th, with 8 wins.

Just interested to know what people here expect from our team (which is essentially starting from scratch). New coaching and fitness department appointed only last year. Dramatic list change this year. What do people expect (not want, but expect).

For me I really only expect a strong move up in the ladder in 2015 (Hogan will have had a good year under his belt by then too :D) . By 2016 I'd like/expect to be playing finals. Our list both talent and attitude wise is now on the up (imo). I'm chuffed with what Neeld and co have done and for the first time in a long time am really looking forward to and am somewhat confident about the future. Hope we can retain all these young stars. They could really grow into a powerful force.

Anyway, other people's thoughts?

Simple. I want to go to the footy with a sense of hope not how much will we be beaten by this week!! I've had enough of draft picks, rebuilding, and so on. I just want our players let us supporters have pride in them! I'm done, I want our blokes to have a ****ing crack, look out for each other and protect each other.

No expectations but definately no floggings! We'll beat more Vic sides this year though!

The round 1 game against Port is crucial. It's a game we should win and MUST WIN. I'd be treating it like a final if I was in the FD.

If we win that one it brings the guys confidence that they're on the right track and capable of much more. I'd be expecting a minimum of 6, but realistically something like 8 wins with only a couple of 10 goal plus defeats.

If we lose that first game, then I fear the guys dropping their heads and I'll be expecting a year like 2012. Well, maybe a little better. It couldn't be worse... I hope!

I think realistically 6-8 wins is a must for 2013

Wins are not entirely what i'm basing my expectations on though. No more of these hard and competitive for 3 quarters type games only to be demolished in the last quarter. I want to see us take a game all the way especially against teams like Carlton and Hawthorn. We won't win but it won't be based on our lack of effort

We have a pretty soft fixture, reckon we have 14 winnable games.

1. Port Adelaide - MCG
2. Essendon - MCG
4. GWS - MCG
5. Brisbane - Gabba
7. Gold Coast - MCG
8. Richmond - MCG
13. St Kilda - MCG
14. Western Bulldogs - MCG
17. Brisbane - TIO
18. North Melbourne - Etihad
19. GWS - Skoda
20. Gold Coast - Metricon
21. Fremantle - MCG
23. Western Bulldogs - Etihad

I reckon we should be at least aiming to win 8 or 9 of those games.

After the by in 2012 our midfield really improved, I think before the by we were ranked 17th in clearences, in the 6 to 8 game period after the by we were ranked about 8th. So if Jones continues what he did last year, Sylvia has a big pre-season and Trengove improves his game, along with Grimes, Mckenzie, Magner, Viney and Toumpas I think our midfield can really step up and surprise people.

When our midfield was at its best last year, we had no forward line. Clark was out injured and basically we had no one else. Now hopefully we'll have Clark back, along with Dawes and Pederson as targets, with Byrnes and possibly Davey running around as small forwards. I can really see us kicking larger scores next year.

We still have a young list but quite a few of our young guys have had a few pre-seasons now and have had a bit of experience now, this year they need to improve their games and cement their spots in the 22, I'm talking about guys like Watts, Tapscott, Blease, Strauss, Howe, and Mcdonald. If these guys are improving then the whole side is improving.

I reckon we'll have a much better year next year, I'm pretty excited for it and can't wait for it to start.

i don't think the ones I bolded are very likely at all. Especially North, who basically cream us every time. I think 8 wins will be our max, probably 6-7. I'd be very happy with 8. That would be enough to instill some pride and belief into the club and we'd be vying for finals in 2014.

If we win a few of our early games heading into that game against Richmond we would be full of confidence, they are one of rare teams that we have beaten over the last few years, we can beat them

We came pretty close to St Kilda twice in 2012 especially the first game, hopefully we are an improved side and I think we can beat them.

North is going to be tough especially at Etihad, but I don't they're are that good of a side, let's try and get that hoodoo off our back.

Freo in Melbourne I reckon we are a chance, over there we don't.

Not saying we are going to win those games, we'll win some and lose some they're just the games I think we are a chance of winning

I think hoodoos are nonsense I don't think the Essendon game is a guarantee win, and North are a guarantee loss. Richmond hadn't beaten St Kilda since 2003 but they managed it this year. We haven't beaten a lot of teams since 06 big deal.

Surely getting better at Etihad has to be a major aim? Freo's improvement there last year showed much much that is down to coaching. We beat St Kilda there easily during the year and then when we played Freo there, it was just like playing St Kilda of 09/10 again there: they just slaughtered us - because Lyon knows how to play that ground.

Many have stated that they want hoodoo's broken. Beating the bulldogs at etihad would be a realistic goal that would be something we'll have to wait for the last round of the season for though. We only get two shots at it and one is against North which I wouldn't be confident about considering our history. Odd thread for you to be posting in considering you think we'll come last.

I'm on your board so being polite. I'm just saying that trying to improve at a ground where I get the feeling plenty of the fans pretty much write off games would be something you'd want to work on no?

Winning any games is something we want to work on.

Absolutely its pretty embarrassing that we have a ground in Melbourne that our supporters refuse to go to. It's hardly surprising though, we haven't won a game there in years we get treated like second class citizens when we do go and it's a difficult place to get to for families in terms of driving and parking etc. Personally I go to every game in Melbourne but I can't stand that place. Especially when the roof is closed and it feels like an indoor sporting centre.

So yeah winning their should be a goal but then winning every game should be a goal, like I said we get two shots there this year, the bulldogs game is the 'realistic' one.
