Our 2004 list by general consensus on this board was RS
We have a team with only two who were not on that list Thompson for Stenglein and VB so minimal change Our better players have moved from peak age (25-29) to their twilight years (30+) Arguably our first 22 is down on ability to 2004 The wins have come from game plan discipline and fitness all of which get caught up with eventually and it come down to ability. With a team full of players who are slow we will struggle from here on

Based on our first quarter today, I would agree with you, the doggies are doing all of the running

based on our past month, personel, and today's first quarter, i cannot honestly see us winning another game for the rest of the season. don't worry about finding a game plan to beat the eagles in the GF; we'll be lucky to get a top two spot the way we're going.
give away too many soft goals, no pace, not enough cool heads under pressure. kick behinds when should be kicking goals.
i really, honestly, cannot see us winning another game for the rest of the season.

of course, i hope i'm wrong and you can all can me.

don't you love the channel ten commentary?
when the crows get a goal, they sound like a bomb's being dropped on melbourne. when the dogs score, they literally cream their pants.

I know. michael Christian hates anyone from interstate.

That first quarter was garbage.

alot like many posters on this forum, not so much yourself but the two above you and the ones like them.

good game sofar, half time lead, playing well, trying new things. we have top 2 spot sewn up officially, get over it. we might lose a few more. West Coast 2005.

Personally I'm not worried about the win or loss. Our style of play though was garbage. We had no forward structure, moved the ball like a team of over 70's, and turned it over when trying to play tempo football. The 2nd quarter was a lot better and we dictated the style of play, not them. Hopefully we can go on with it.

Our first quarter was rubbish. Far too slow to move the ball on, and the placement of Rutten at FF was a friggin' disaster. Hopefully that will silence the misguided isolated calls from some posters to take an AA FB and turn him into a rubbish FF.

In that second quarter we started to run and use a lot more handball. Combined with more sensible team placements we looked far more dangerous and managed to get on top.

Outstanding play by McLeod, who has been the architect of our run starting from HB.

Some fantastic grunt work by Rob Shirley in geting hard balls. :thumbsu:

Bad luck to Skippy. That hammy could end his career with us.

Let's hope we go on with us this quarter!!

don't take the top two spot as a given.

tell me how, mathematically, sydney can't get 2nd?

Some poor decision making down back, and the complete lack of protection from the umpires for our forwards is getting beyond a joke.

michael christian just had an orgasm allover the commentary desk.
i pity his co-workers. at least they can write their raincoats off their tax.

This "tempo" footy is crap. It is too easily worked out now. All the opposition have to do is man up and we will turn it over. I also believe that it creates a negative mind set in the players. Instead of continuing to run and create opportunities like we were we go into our shells and go defensive. This just permeated through the group and all of a sudden we are just static and not looking dangerous at all. There is no real pressure on the opposition because we are not looking to take them on.

A question without notice - but how do you guys feel about the media constantly going on about the "extra training" ?

My personal thoughts is the whole concept of extra work and the rewards it brings is more myth than fact - as is the current impact on the side.

Thoughts ?

if i were a pr0n director, i'd recruit m. christian. never in the history of mankind has one man ejaculated so many times in such a short time.

Not a myth but if everyone does the same work natural ability wins out

That was a Graham Cornes/Robert Shaw-era away game.

- Don't play particularly well, but find ourselves up by a sizeable margin during the third quarter.

- Stop completely while the opposition pile on goal after goal.

- Reawaken about 10 minutes too late, shank a goal and stem the tide.

- In the neck and neck war of attrition that transpires as the final quarter drags on we blink first and go down by anything from 1 to 4 goals.

I think the move that was decisive in allowing the dogs back in the game was the move of Rutten back to the forward line.

It seemed when he was down back that he was the general directing traffic and not allowing the ball into their forward line easily but we lost that drive when he was moved forward.

Malibu - periodisation is very well known training method in all sports, but for Aussie Rules it is a little different in that it occurs during a season of competition. Plus the quality of sports scientists at the club directing the periodisation is also a media talking point and that the club is actually up front about it. I think that West Coast have done it as well (remember their losing streak from a few weeks ago?) but are not willing to talk about it.

I have already said ad nauseam on this board that IMO it is just that your main asset is at it's weakest atm.
If you can fix it up before the finals you will go well, if not then you will have a big fight in your hands. It's also worth remembering that no matter what happens you will have a home final so that is a plus.
