Can someone please what a Rebound 50 is?

Just looking through some stats, and teams can have more ball rebounding form their 50 than the number of Inside50's.

IE

Hawks vs Carlton

Hawks had 45 inside 50's
Blues had 35 Rebound 50's
Difference=10

So despite hawthorn kicking 16 goals(the ball cannot rebound after a goal) how is the difference only 10?

I'm pretty sure an i50 doesn't count if it goes straight to the opposition - ie. it has to touch the ground or a teammate to count as an i50.

Isn't a rebound 50 when a play into the forward 50 is turned over to the oppisition team and removed from the arc? Hence the word "rebound". Nonetheless, yes I think it means Jack

If Carlton kicked it backwards into their defensive 50, then it doesn't count as an inside 50 for Hawthorn. So they could have kicked goals from that.

e.g. Jamison kicks from his defensive 50 to Judd outside their defensive 50 (this counts as 1 rebound 50)
then Judd kicks the ball back to Jamison in their defensive 50 (this doesn't count as an inside 50 for Hawthorn)
Jamison then tries to kick to Carazzo but turns the ball over, Franklin marks it and kicks the goal so therefore there was 1 goal + 1 rebound 50s for no inside 50

another thing that could happen is that the ball simply bounces into the forward 50, or more obscurely, a boundary umpire may accidentally throw the ball back into one sides forward 50.
A player actually has to bring the ball into their forward 50 for it to count as an inside 50 i.e. they have to either handball, kick or run into the forward 50 with the ball.

Inside 50s and rebound 50s aren't counted very well. If you compare the stats on afl.com.au and pro-stats.com.au for rebound and inside 50s you'll find the stats are totally different.

sometimes even, the stats will show that a team had more rebound 50s than the opposition's inside 50s, which seems illogical.

Disclaimer: using the Champion Data definitions ...

Incorrect. If the ball is put into the forward 50 zone by the attacking team, it's an Inside 50 no matter what.

is it a rebound 50 when kicking in from a point?

Yes, but it goes to the team not the individual (for similar reasons, he is not credited with a kick either).

Franklin would be credited with the inside 50. However, it is possible for a rushed behind to be conceded here without an inside 50.

Again not true, the first attacking team player who takes possession inside the forward 50 gets the Inside 50 stat. If the other team rebounds it, no Rebound 50 is counted (as the ball is still logically in the midfield)

sometimes even, the stats will show that a team had more rebound 50s than the opposition's inside 50s, which seems illogical.

Impossible. Find me an example in the official stats. In all cases, the number of goals plus the number of opposition Rebound 50s CANNOT be greater than the number of Inside 50s. It will be between zero and four fewer, depending on where the ball was at the end of each quarter.

I found these stats for the Round 9 match:
Champion Data: Hawks 55 I50s, 16 goals; Blues 38 R50s
Prowess: Hawks 55 I50s, 16 goals; Blues 44 R50s

It appears as though Prowess counts these stats differently (they also had Blues 50 I50s cf 48). I don't know the reason for that.
