Never knew Nobby had a father who played in the VFL.

RIP Fred.

Daryl Gutterson died sometime before August 20 aged 67. He played 1 game for Carlton in 1971. He was a cousin to former Footscray player Jim.

The former Perth player Bert Wansbrough is mentioned in the book Goodbye Leederville Oval by Kieran James (published by Lulu) on page 65 as follows:

Family support for the WAFL in the 1950s and 1960s

My father (Laurie James) had been a casual East Perth supporter from an East Perth family. His uncle-in-law had been a friend of 1955 Perth Football Club premiership player, Hubert “Bert” Wansbrough, who played 127 games for the club between 1952 and 1958.[1] Because of this association, his family would alternate between attending East Perth’s home games at Perth Oval and attending Perth’s home games at the WACA Ground.[2] Laurie would irritate his own family of “one-eyed East Perth supporters” by simply “appreciating good football” from something similar to “an umpire’s perspective”.[3]

He coached the Bombers in 1976 and 1977. He was coach of the Lions between 1965 and 1970 and again from 1979 to 1980. Former Essendon player Mal Pascoe, born 31 March 1933, played 94 senior matches for the Dons between 1953-1958 passed away in Hobart this morning aged 87.
He went on to be playing coach of the Hobart Football Club in the TANFL from 1959-1965 where he would coach the Tigers 1959, 1960 and 1963 premiership teams as well as the club's 1959 Tasmanian State Premiership over Burnie.
He was awarded the William Leitch Medal for the best player in the TANFL in 1959.
Pascoe played on for one more year in 1966, handing over the coaching reins to the late John K Watts and played his 177th and final match for Hobart in the Tigers 1966 TANFL Premiership win over Glenorchy.
Pascoe then returned as coach of the young, struggling Tiger outfit and coached the club in 1978 and 1979 when he retired and handed the job over to Paul Sproule who took Hobart to the 1980 TANFL Premiership and Winfield Statewide Cup title in the same year.
Pascoe was immortalised by the Hobart Football Club as ine of the famous Three P's (along with Burnie Payne and Denis Powell) and the club's main grandstand at the TCA Ground was named after the trio in 1998.
He was the Hobart Football Club's longest serving coach, having coached the senior team for nine years (1959-1965 and 1978-1979), and coached the most premierships by a coach in the history of the Hobart Football Club with three.
Pascoe passed away on 24 August 2020.

I recall seeing him and his brother play for North Adelaide in the early 70s. Completely different builds...Denis was the typical 'big fat fullforward' ...but both very good players.

VALE.
