Recent poor form, future damage?

All this recent talk of who will go were ect ect.

Which raise the question: recent poor form against teams like port and GC ... Will affect players thoughts of wanting to come to this club.

E.g Trengrove saw us lose to the worst team in the league at the moment and played in the game were we lost to Port (the team he supposedly wants to leave)

Even younger players seeing us not move forward.. And why would you want to be apart of that ?

If that were the case, then Judd would never have gone to Carlton.

But not every one thinks about money.

End of the day players want to win premierships, can we say you will win one ?

The will think what makes this year different from the passed 30?

I think you raise a good point. If I didnt love the club the way I do and I was a player, Richmond would be one of the last places I would want to go.

Our best hope is that people are in fact interested by money, because there isnt a lot more to attract them.

so would you agree that because we lost these games not only lose top 8 spot but lose the attraction of future young talent?

so we have lost more than just Points and Pride we lose players

Then i raise another... will this make Lids want to leave seeing as it looks like we have gone backwards?

Could Dusty regret his contract signing? (hope not)

But these things Hardwick must take under consideration as teh results won't just be pissed of supporters and members

Im Afraid so..

And i have been preaching that scenario , but the development group keep telling us that the players bleed black and yellow......we shall see in the next two to three years, because thats when the chickens will come home to roost at the end of their present contracts and with free agenvy about.

Us supporters will still be thre but will lids, jack, cotch, dustin, ty etc etc....

Depressing isn't it?

the short answer is NO...what attracts the player is primarliy the CONTRACT...i can assure you that a young player would not go to collingwood to earn half the money he could get elsewhere despite what some ****wits would have you believe. if the money is negligible then naturally other factors come into play like senior selection opps, finals prospects, facilities, coach et al..we are in a unique situation that we pay 92% of cap...that leaves alot of headroom to attract some quality players and not many other clubs are in the same boat

That's right, Bo - people think the successful clubs can have everything they want and don't have to worry about the salary cap but it's not true. Didn't Geelong lose Mumford because they couldn't afford to offer what Sydney could?

An outsider would think we are going backwards. I'm pretty confident that internally we know we are heading in the right direction. Yes, the last 3 weeks have been horrible, but I doubt 3 weeks can influence a players mind like that.

To get Grigg to nominate Richmond as the club he wants to go to so you can deal exclusively with Carlton, you need to offer something other than the pipedream of future success.

Obviously money is one of those things but I wouldnt expect to see him out of the team any time soon no matter how he plays.

That Ottens is our only casualty so far is amazing.

Apparently Cotchin was getting worked up over the loss. Would want to pick our shit up pretty quick.

Cotchin is not the type to walk away from anything. He was getting worked up because he is the best leader at the club and rather than accept what was going on, he desperately wants to help change it. And he will.

Cotchin is the least of our worries. He's not one to find the easy route out and I am sure that's what he's teaching everyone else at the club.

Here's an article on him earlier on in the year if anyone missed it.

More Bucks than Fev

I know the club felt pressured by the Gold Coast at the time of my last contract but deep down you know you are never going to leave the club and that is where you want to be. Richmond is so exciting for what the future holds for us so why would you want to be anywhere else?

Re: Recent poor form, future damage?

Ohhhhhh, the Dimma and the damage done......

The club is in nowhere near the state it was when Ottens left. Exponential improvement in just about every area bar on-field results. (And they will come.)

That's why that 'Richmond has hit rock-bottom' thread on the main board is rubbish. We're miles above rock-bottom, albeit that we're still a long way off flying high.

If Lids didn't leave after 09, surely he'll stay now. And in regards to attracting players, I don't see what has changed from 12 months ago, other than supporter and media expectation. We got Houli and Grigg to nominate us because they were shown 'the vision' - the full extent of which we haven't been privy to.

The club is on an upwards trajectory, with strong leaders holding firm against the knee-jerk reactions of the media and some fans. As long as that holds true, we'll be fine.

Agree. I have confidence that the administration look far beyond the crap served up by a short-sighted and salivating media.

I dont think we have to worry about this team falling apart, now we finally have some money and proper structures not to mention a full team of scouts, so we wont be like we were 3-10 years ago with us drafting duds than just trading them again, now were can build and build properly. would of been good if they had this in place back than but what can you do a team has to start somewhere, and if players just "walk out" they may aswell close the door, kids just want to play afl football so being paid too do that should be enough motivation.

Another game why players will not want to come to this backwards tea,

But...but...but...we are getting smashed...

And our so called upwards trajectory is looking like a soggy limp biscuit....

.

My only concern is keeping lids. if we are failing badly next year I would expect him to potentially go and you couldn't blame him. However I think we will have one more development year before we make finals in 2013. If the coaches change again you can see Deledio suggesting he is gone unless it is someone like Malthouse who gets him to stay.

In terms of attracting players to our club you have got to be kidding with the Grigg/Houli comment. These guys were attracted because they are VFL players hoping to cash in and get some games...hardly premier players nominating our club.

Good call sante. I also think that in AFL circles the thing that affects player movement is the noise the players make about their coaches and if I recall correctly Grigg made the comment of the players really playing for Dimma and how this was something he wanted to be a part of.:thumbsu:
