Recruiting Targets Summary

A little out of the box, but what about Andrew Walker. The blues a struggling and likely to start rebuilding .

would be a good addition to the Half back line and can swing to the Half Forward line if needed. Is a litte old at 29 next year though.

He had his chance 3/4 years ago... that horse has bolted... enjoy the rebuild (again) Andrew.

before Tomlinson .. I would go for Kristian Jaksch (196cm) KPP or
James Stewart (198cm) KPP from GWS

Jaksch is strong over head and has kicked big bags in the NEAFL after a knee injury early in 2013 and
Stewart has good speed and athleticism (which King Ken would like)

both can play forward both can play down back .

both would have trouble getting ahead of Cameron, Patton, Boyd, McCarthy and Tomlinson in the forward line ..
both might have trouble getting ahead of Mohr, Davis, Plowman, Tomlinson in the back line ...

both would do well under King Ken and Burgess (and both might be willing to move)

we might get Jaksch for a 2nd / 3rd rounder ..
we might get Stewart for a 3rd / 4th rounder ..

Can Stewart play down back?? I mean I know Jaksch has been tried there and at least when drafted seemed like he could play either position. But with Stewart, even if they are playing him down back it will be one of those 'play him as a defender so he can learn to be a forward' kind of deals.

I really don't think the fact that one of the players we target can play KPF and KPD will be that relevant. We want a good KPF not a middle of the road Mr. Fix it

Lycett kicked 5 goals and named best for East Perth.
Not AFL standard, terrible Leauge, wouldn't get a kick in an SANFL Reserves street fight, we only want him because he is exMagpie, would only surpass Renouff, no good...

5 goals, is 5 goals regardless. Knows where the sticks are and is a footballers footballer! I want him here in 2015, don't want to over pay, but a third rounder should be adequate if he isn't playing 1's and out of contract.

A 3rd rounder would not be enough.

The Eagles would view him similarly to how we view Jarrad Redden, and we certainly wouldn't let him go for a 3rd round pick.

Would they? NickNat, Cox, Sinclair, he is fit and can't get a game!

Cox will retire fairly soon and Natanui is regularly injured so they'd want to keep him. Plus he was drafted with a second rounder and they've put three years of development into him so they'll want at least what they got him for.

I don't think anyone so brash as to wear a hat to training would fit in well at PAFC.

Surplus to requirements, best footy past him

Normally, yes. But you look at Billy Longer from Brisbane. Pick 8 2011, 10 career games, traded to Saints for pick 25 and a 3rd round downgrade.

Lycett - pick #29 2010, 11 career games, 4th in line ruckmen. Assuming a couple of FA compensation and GC/GWS compensation picks the last pick in round 2 would be around pick 40.

So I guess, if we win the flag.. then a second rounder should do :P

If I was the Eagles in that scenario I'd call his bluff and let him go into PSD, as a 3rd round pick is virtually worthless anyway.

I'd call his bluff too. He would want to come back to port first and foremost but it looks like the cows will pick first in the preseason draft.

Anyway I'm not too sure we need lycet, I would prefer a pure chef first.

I thought the Port Club had improved over the past few years?

Fevola, who topped the Blues' goalkicking seven times and was later also sacked by the Brisbane Lions because of off-field trouble, also thinks free agent Bryce Gibbs will leave the club. He said "you can tell Gibbs is thinking about it" - heading home to join the Adelaide Crows.

"Big Sammy Jacobs is his best mate and that is a big thing in the Crows' favour. Eddie Betts is there now, too. But the biggest thing is his family. That's the biggest lure of all. I can't see him staying."

This sounds familiar to a situation last trade/free agency period ;)

After last night's challenge for Lobbe, competing with Natanui and Cox, I can see us going for a ruck.

Redden will be a star, Lobbe is already one of the leagues best best we simply can not rely on so little depth in this area

More I think of it, Frawley is the perfect option for us.

If he goes forward, support for Schulz, stopgap for a few years while one of Butcher/Harvey/ Shaw/ one this years two KPF draftees stand up.

If he goes back, frees Trengove to play 2nd ruck, and we avoid the whole "can we play Lobbe and Redden at the same time since neither is a real KP option at AFL level" dilemma. One of them becomes "depth".

So if we got Frawley I'd also sign Lobbe and Redden to long term deals and still draft Haren.

KP/ruck wise we start to look like an Essendon with Ryder / Hurley / Carlisle flexibility.

Except hopefully we have them the right way around because Hurley's a better forward & same with Carlisle as a defender.

If Lobbe isn't already he's close to a better ruckman than Ryder is.
