Can't see us getting tomlinson as much as i would love to

unless it was

we finsih top 4

and Ken goes

"Hey Adam, you at CHF at year is the difference between us and flag"

He goes yep alright PAFC is home now

and we trade our first two picks

It will impact him long term?

James Hird says hi.

There was a reason that we tried to trade picks 9 and 16 for trengove (well pick 2)

Cause he is a great talent, that talent doesn't go away, it just can't be released

Port can release players talent through correct opportunities and training regardless of previous clubs

Ebert, Schulz and more recently Monfries and Polec are examples of that
Can't really see us getting Tomlinson either tbh.

I never said that Trengove's injury will definitely impact him long term. I said it might, and that should be something to consider if we ever look at recruiting him.

Whatever reason exists for recruiting a player when he is drafted does not necessarily exist a couple of years later. As to whether we can release that potential, I don't think Schulz, Ebert, Monfries and Polec are the best examples. They didn't come to us from clubs who have been as consistently woeful as Melbourne has.

mmmm you sure

WCE were struggling real bad when Ebert was at WCE, Schulz was at Richmond, Polec came from Brisbane

WCE finished top four the year we got Ebert from them. He played all 22 home and away games and was dropped for the finals.

Brisbane was 1 game out of the 8 last year.

I don't think you can compare Richmond to Melbourne. Consistantly just missing finals isn't really the same as consistantlybe in the bottom 2 or 3 sisdes in the league.

Brisbane were down, but until they had their mass exodus they were average not woeful.
Richmond has made an art form of being average. As a club and the level most of their players get to. Too much of an attitude through them that ok is good enough.

Melbourne are just a whole different kettle of fish. Any player brought over from them would need serious work to undo what that club does to any recruit. I wouldn't be adverse to getting players from Melbourne - that last bit about all the work you'd have to do means there'd almost certainly be a big gap between how they play at present and their potential. They are worse then Fitzroy. At least they tried, they just had no cattle, no facilities and few fans to support them. Shit if one of my sons was good enough to play AFL and was about to be drafted right now, I'd rather they go to the Crows, as at least down the track you'd get some sort of functioning footy player wanting to go to Port. Drafted to Melbourne and I'd worry about them needing a shrink for years to come.

Frawley is great but KPD is one of our deepest positions. It seems like a waste of money.

If we're throwing big money at a free agent, it should be a KPF or a utility/mid like Gibbs.

Watch Frawley over the next few weeks. He is a beast KPF or KPD. Roos is starting to swing him between each now.

If we can find some incriminating photos and knock his price down to $400,000 go for it. You can never have too many quality defenders.

To be honest I wasn’t at all interested in Frawley until I saw him play up forward last week. Granted, it was against a weak Carlton defence but if he can keep producing that type of footy as a key forward against some solid opponents he should definitely be on our radar.

Key position swing man through free agency – yes please

hmmm

offer frawley the chance to come to a team that will play finals the next few years as a key forward.

interesting. if he was willing to play key forward for us we could do very very well to get him.

would be a huge up hill battle to get him though. we would be offering slightly less money then some teams would be. he would have to move to adelaide. but in our line up we could really challenge with a forward line of shultz , frawls and westhoff.

Ah Chee does not have what it takes. Barely even SANFL level.

I wanted him gone with Hitchcock last year.
(While keeping Thomas and Blee.)

Well Rossco, against the Bays he looked lively up forward early on, taking a few strong grabs and even plucking a one hander. They then moved him down back where his ball use was quite neat and effective, he still has one hell of a lethal handball. It will be interesting to watch his progress now he is in an AFL environment constantly, he screams to me to be one of those guys that will adapt to the AFL game with ease, where as Ben Newton maybe not so easily. If AhChe plays 18 games and can kick 30-40 goals for the year I would retain him for another 12 months. He isn't even 21 yet and like Newton people were calling for his head 18 months ago, now he is one of the best SANFL midfielders going about. Let's not throw the baby out with the bath water, AhChe has the size, speed and skills to be an AFL footballer, he is a genuine utility in the Paul Stewart mold, headspace and fitness are the only things holding him back and if we have a side trouncing SANFL teams I think you will be surprised just what he is capable of.

Both AhChe and Hitchcock are good users of the footy and intodays game, like Hawthorn have proven, it's all about ball retention and use. We have seen how effective ball use I'd in Polec, Hitchcock uses the ball just as well.

Thomas via foot was atrocious and Blee unfortunately for him was a tweener, not tall enough but too tall to be a midfielder, not big enough, not quick enough and unfortunately didn't have the drive/desire/will to be the hardest trainer in the group. Kenny wasn't going to be left behind.

There are others that will go before AhChe and Hitchcock if they both do everything right over the next few months, however the ball is in their court.

If he wasn't lively in a 150+ point win then there would be a huge problem.
IMO he will develop into nothing more than a depth player at best.
He's not a ruckman or KP player he should be pushing for selection at his age.

If guys like Redden, Heath, Stevenson, Monfries, Wingard, Shaw, Johansen, Hombsch all come back from injury and slot back in the pecking order. Ah Chee will be lucky to find a spot in the Maggies lineup.

At his age, he is 20. Newton is 22, Young 22, Hitchcock 24, Butcher 24. It is rare blokes like Wingard and Wines walk into AFL footy, even Ben Jacobs is 21 and not pying regular AFL football. O'Rourke would be around that 20 years of age, I wonder if Melbourne would be interested in him, Tyson wasn't playing regularly at GWS seems to have slotted in alright this year.

I'm not saying Ah Chee should be walking right into the team.
What I mean by "push for selection" is to be at least in the top half best SANFL players each week.
When I look at the SANFL stat sheets he is always near the bottom.

Butcher is only 22. If he is 24 and is no better than he is now, i'll probably start to show some of the concerns a lot of you on here do.

One month into his first season coming off his first ever unfettered preseason, no less.

We'll know a hell of a lot more by the end of this year.

ah chee was always recruited as a project player. looks way off afl level at the moment but is very young (was a bottom ager when he was drafted). is a great size for footy and has some tools that could be something if he puts it together. needs more time far too early to be cutting him just yet. if we really need to make the mandatory 3 cuts at years end i think shifting him to the rookie list is a good option. im not sure ah chee makes it but we dont have much to lose right now and if he does make it could be special. dont see as chee as a middle of the road he will either make it as a very very good player or not at all. he needs to develop ebert-like running.

There is more to footy than Dream Team
