Recruiting Targets Summary

If the offer ever presented itself who would you rather we go hammer and tongs at; Sam reid or Jeremy Cameron? If Cameron were to re sign I wouldn't mind having reid at all

Apparently you guys are into Broomhead big time. He apparently is a big Power supporter.

He didn't look too chuffed when he was kicking us out of the game on Sunday. Eddie would have a conniption.

His mum will have to bake him a cake with a file in it. That's how to break out of Collingwood. ;)

What would Newton be worth on his own (separate to any potential Lycett deal)?

We really like him 2 round if he's not signed up and wants out but with Dom retiring we are hoping he pays us back for the years we have put into him after picking him up in the draft knowing it was going to take years to get his ankle right. If he wants to stay we wouldn't look at trading.

I'm assuming that a trade would only take place if he doesn't re-sign and requests one.

You think our second rounder (if Waterman goes r3) would be the least you'd accept? Seems a high price, a pick in the late 20s?

It's tough once they want out and if he only wants to be traded to one club. As you saw with Brad. If he wants out and Lycett wants out its working players and shuffle picks around somehow to balance it up but I think he will show value over the rest of the season.. We've watched him every week in the sanfl and know less than a second rounder is a big win for anyone who picks him up.

Well he played for the Port Adelaide Magpies before he was Drafted.

I be super surprised if he left Collingwood
If players could just click their fingers and then they were at their prefered club there would be massive changes, but it isnt that simple. While Broomhead maybe considering a return to Port the Pies would be putting massive pressure on him to stay. His team mates and leadership group would be in his ear all the time, not to mention Eddie promising him everything under the sun. So he may well re-sign for the Pies, as its not that simple for him.
But you cant blame Port for going after him, and most players who go interstate think about returning home at some point in their careers. Most however stay put.
But if Port can get him that pretty much completes their midfield. Plenty of pace outside and some hard nuts inside like Boak, Wines and Broomhead.
And unlike previous years, Port is now an attractive option for players.

If Newts & Lycett don't recommit I could see Ben being involved in the Lycett trade, you need another clearance specialist to help Priddis out & we obviously need a ruck/forward like Lycett.

Perhaps Newton & our 3rd rounder which you could on trade to Hawthorn for Lowden would be the best deal for both clubs? I don't think either club would get a fair return outright for Newts or Lycett separately but together this deal seems good for both parties.

It sucks for your guys that we're looking to take Cox' successor now he's started to develop but like Ebert I always thought Scott was a chance to come back to Port, I really rate Bens potential & would hate to see him go but on needs basis we need to trade in a few talls like Lycett.

If Newts wanted out he'd probably only net us something similar to Adam Thomson. I'm sure we'd push for a second, but if it came down to accepting a third for him or letting him go to the PSD, we'd probably take the third.

That'd be a bargain for West Coast and a loss for us, but the reality is that you wouldn't get fair trade value for a guy who hasn't been given many AFL opportunities, who is coming out of contract, and who nominates a club which could probably get him in the PSD if a trade isn't worked out.

I think Lycett + our second rounder for Newton and your first is fair. Both on their own would seem overs to each set of supporters.

I reckon a swap of picks is in order :

Port trade 1st + 3rd to GWS for there 2 end of 1st round picks - approx. 20 and 22

Pick 20 > Broomhead
Pick 22 and Newton > Lycett and 3rd round pick.

Port : Broomhead, Lycett & 3rd round Pick
Collingwood : Pick 20
West Coast : Pick 22, Newton

With a few late picks swapped around etc.

if you offered us a pick in the 20's for Newton we would take it in a heartbeat and run away laughing. I really like Newts but if the offer come where he wanted to go back, could have good game time and it aided in the Lycett trade then i think that's best for all parties. his worth is probably a 3rd rounder.

If he wanted out yeah, but if he wanted to stay, why? Picks are overrated. A pick in the mid-to-late 20's second could easily turn out better than Newton, as good as Newton, or worse than Newton. The only thing that's guaranteed about trading the player for the pick is that the pick would put us four years behind in the development which we've already put into Newts.

If the trade that Suma Magic posted came down to our choice between Lycett + Eagles second for our first and Newton or Lycett + Eagles second for our first and our second, I'd rather give up the extra pick every day of the week.

Very optimistic to think a club will trade a second round pick for Ben Newton. Elliot Yeo went for an equivalent pick last last year and he's a better player with more runs on the board and far higher potential. There's a big difference between it not being worth trading Newton for a pick in the 40-50 range and him being worth a pick in the early 20's. Koby Stevens would be a apt comparison and he was traded for a pick in the mid 40's.

I can't see why the eagle would be interested in Newton anyway. The last thing they need is more medium height, slow, inside midfielders. Ah Chee with a late pick would be far better pick up for them.

Agree 100%. If it's required to get a Lycett trade done, then trade Newton, but not if there's a pick we can use instead use that. We got spanked in clearances on the weekend, unless we had to trade him to fill a more pressing problem with our ruck stocks, you wouldn't trade one of the few to be able to get the ball.

i think we are getting spanked in the clearances cos we havent got a good ruckman. if we had sam jacobs in the middle we would be a much better team.

wasn't the case earlier in the season. our contested ball group is fine they're just playing like shit at the moment.
I think opposition teams have closed up on our kicks into the centre corridor. If they were risky before, they're riskier now. I always knew there were going to be frustrating times ahead the way we play. We take chances, and it doesn't always pay off.

Newton's worth would be around the same as Jacobs was...mid30s about what we drafted him at.
Newton, trade
Oshea(apparently, recently bought a 1.6M house in Melbourne) want to Keep
Stewart trade
Hitchcock Delist (I've heard from someone who knows him, that he's a bit of a piss head, and has recently broken curfews)
Renouf Delist
Stevenson Delist

Maybe one of the rookies too. Not sure the minimum, I think its 4. We've already lost dom.

Mostly agree with except keep Newton unless required to get a KPP or Ruck. Stewart if he goes we might get nothing for as a free agent.

Add in S. Gray and Russell to go from the rookie list. Add in a state ruckman to replace Renouf, a project ruckman and a KPP missed in the main draft to replace S. Gray and Russell.
