this game is still in the balance, 70 runs to win, 4 wickets in hand

(yes i know, probably a loss, but would like to see them get close)

Bit of a shame in the end. At least three of our bats put their heads down but it should be the batsmen getting the runs, not the bolwers being left a task. Still, it was a far better effort than the first innings though I am not sure what the cure for the Redbacks ills are

This was typical Redbacks at so many stages throughout the match.

- Bowl a team out cheaply, then hardly make 100 runs as a team

- Look capable of bowling a team out for under 120, end up letting tailenders put on another 100+ with the number 11 batsman making a 50.

- Look well placed to win with a solid middle order partnership, then fall in a bundle and lose.

One thing that happens in every Redbacks game is that our tail fails miserably. Once we're down 6 or 7, you can guarantee that the final 4 partnerships combined would be lucky to make 40 runs. (4/10 first innings, 4/19 in 2nd innings)

On the flip side, you can just about guarantee that the tail of our opposition will wag enormously (Vics 4/102 1st innings, 4/97 2nd innings with a 77 run last wicket stand)

I know it's the batsmen's job to post runs on the board (and they're ****ing deplorable at the moment, bar Cooper), but it'd be nice if our tail could wag just a bit, or if we could just clean up the last 3 or 4 wickets for bugger all. Unfortuantely, our inability to polish off the tailenders has again cost us the game.

Bring on footy season

so erm, we got a home ODI final.

how bizzare.

And the SACA have opened the gates for the final.

Be the third straight season the Redbacks have made the finals in at least one form of the game, which is a positive for the side. If only they could get their 4-day house in order.

Not next summer but the one after that, the SACA will play in the Shield final.

The results are not there but gradually over the last 3 summers we have improved. Firstly in the 20/20 format they have made the final 2 years in a row and now the 50 over format. The talent is there, now they just need to discover the confidence for the longer format of the game.

Give the boys another 2 summers and once they get that confidence in the longer format and they will get there. I have faith.

The Redbacks are bottom without a win and with just 2 points to their name. I'm not sure how you can possibly predict them to make a Shield Final in two seasons.

Because all 12 players can actually play the game at that level. They just don't have self belief, confidence or experience yet. They have demonstrated this high level of batting, bowling and fielding by being competitive and winning at the shorter period of the game. It's not done by accident.

Once they develop that inner self belief and team belief, that they are good enough to play the 4 day version of the game, the talent they poses will be able to be transferred to the longer format of the game. But that takes time.

Went yesterday to cheer on the lads and I have to say it was the most atrocious fielding display I have seen since I played at school. In fact it was worse than anything at school level.

Having said that, the batting innings was superb and the bowlers did well.

I reckon Lyon has now effected the best two run outs of the summer.

only problem is identifying the 12 players
