"Those doing well in turf or hard wicket juniors invariably are already playing District cricket."

Huh? They cant play in more than one comp mate.

In footy, schools and ammo clubs are asked to nominate kids to try out for league development squads. There's far more linkage between the various comps at different levels. There's practically no engagement at primary school level. The early developers will get to the district clubs, but I'd suggest there's a lot of kids getting left on the table due to lack of engagement and coaching. SACA have literally outsourced their community engagement to Elevate.
Local junior cricket is played in the morning is it not ?? I played local cricket in the morning and junior Grade cricket in the arvo.

Yes they can

Turf and hard wicket juniors is on Sundays

Hills and Barossa juniors is on Saturday mornings

Almost every district cricket junior is playing community club or school cricket somewhere else too

You're way off here

If a good player is going well in turf or community juniors they get snapped up instantly, because they have teammates playing district cricket. Word spreads quickly

McSweeney a 21 ball duck

As good as he is, I just find that he goes into his shell too often. Is Matthew Nicks his batting coach?

Needs to be more proactive and positive. Not just in survival mode.

I posted this just before he got picked for Australia last summer. Still a nagging doubt.

I wonder if we'll go with McSweeney?

I actually have a slight nagging doubt about him. Only because he has periods of very slow scoring at Shield level. I wonder whether he's a fraction limited and will get stifled at the next level?

Test quality players tend to dominate the level down.

However, he certainly has innings where he scores quickly too. And the Redbacks have often been in dire trouble let's face it. Might just be that he has gears to his game. Like a Michael Hussey - he could grind it out when needed, rotate the strike when needed, counter-attack when needed, up the ante when needed. Incredibly versatile game.

The renaissance of Jake Lehmann continues!!!

Hunt also making a solid start to the season which is great to see. I like him as an option to open the batting for Australia, but just doesn’t seem to be able to capitalise on any momentum and really put his name up consistently with big scores.

Wish I could find Jake Lehmann’s record against the Vics, reckon his average is almost double against them compared to everyone else.

Wonder if it’s because he was born in Victoria during that year Darren spent at the Vics in the early 90s, some sort of born behind enemy lines personal mission.

For all the mediocrity in between them 14 First-Class centuries in this day and age in Shield Cricket is quite a good effort. As they said in the commentary moves to 13th place on the list of centuries for SA.

Is Ben Manenti injured? Away with the Italian XI? Not picked?

I much prefer the balance of our team without him (I know we won the Shield with him...)

Six batters
Wicket keeper
Three quicks and a spinner
Agreed but Scott being unavailable makes our bowling stocks a little bit thin, hopefully Pope will be able to bowl with some control and get through a heap of overs

Yeah who wanted him gone hey

Typical negative nancys

(hides)
Guilty. Partway early last season, he appeared to be a weak link in the team, and all of a sudden, he found outstanding form in all forms of cricket.
Probably the form Shield cricketer in the country atm.

When Lehmann was having his (extensive) run of outs in the Shield team and got dropped a number of times, he always absolutely carved up at lower levels.

Dominated for the SA 2nd XI, owned club cricket. Kept showing that he was clearly the best player outside of the 11 and got himself another opportunity.

Things eventually turned for him. I certainly didn't expect it

Any reason that McAndrew wasn’t playing this game?

Really missed his impeccable line and length and consistency on the last day with a defendable target to bowl at.

Unfortunately Agar just hasn’t really kicked on after looking really promising early on in his career.
