I was surprised that he had so much stamina - none of the hunched over with hands on knees stuff that was evident during the matches.

Looks like there's clear instructions to him to provide run and carry (bit like the Noble role). At times it looked like he wanted to draw the tackler so that he could practice breaking a tackle - was caught often, but he could be a real bull with the potential to provide run out of defence.

There was even a moment last night, when he provided a shephard to allow Moore to intercept.

Mihocek was a defender turned forward.
I really like Reef and hope he does well in his potential new role, failing that, he may not be up to it.
He is still very young, we must still see something in him.

He can read the game, there's no doubt. He seems to get to where he needs to be. He doesn't clunk marks he should, but that's different in the back line where the spoil rules. The pressure on intercept marks in defence is different to that of attacking marks up front IMO.
I'm just hoping that he can make that transition into a defensive asset because, if he does, wow, what a difference it will make for us. It would be huge. Can he do it? I say Yes.

Sicily was a pretty ordinary forward until he went to defence

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I rate Reef and given his age and the issues he had with his back when drafted he still has a very high ceiling. He is one that I would definitely persist with.... big bodied, fast, can mark and seems to have genuine footy smarts.

I wish they'd just give him a few full games, instead of 5 minute sub duty.

All our talls started at the opposite end to where they now play. Mihocek, McStay, Moore, Howe - even Murphy did. Hopefully Reef can emulate one of that 5.

I keep thinking of Lobb. Look at his turnaround since going into defence. Probably saved his career.

He was a pretty ordinary bloke as well. The move to defence did not change that.

It's hard to make an impression given 2 minutes of game time. He's still averaging a goal a game despite.

Apparently endurance has not been an issue this preseason

Never forget the Prince of Full Backs Jack Regan was a forward.

'One day Regan had the chance to win a game with a kick after the siren but missed. After later apologising to Jock McHale, the coach gave his now famous reply: “Go and throw yourself in the bloody Yarra”. Regan improved sufficiently as a forward to eventually gain Victorian selection in that role in 1933. But he was moved to defence again during those interstate games and did so well that Collingwood followed suit soon after his return.'

Yes he’s really excelled as a forward down there😛sorry been drinking. Having a few Montalto organic Nero D’avola‘s in Greenwich, UK.
