Guys,

I was watching the Front bar last night and David Wirrpanda was on. It made me think about Mark Merenda as I recall he went over to West Coast after playing with us. I was fairly young when Mark played for the Tigers. From memory he was a decent player.

Anyone care to refresh my memory? Was he any good, or was it just my young memory? Why did he go to West Coast?

I was fairly young too, but from what I can remember, a half forward flanker who just seemed to go about his business.

I always felt he was a good, average player with fairly decent skills.

He was a good overhead mark, and loved flying for a speccy. Was a pretty decent shot for goal from memory too.
Back injuries ruined his career, and went home after missing many games due to injury.
Don't think he played many games for the Eagles.

Pretty fair player for his size. Always seemed to give it everything. Was a WA boy so was lured home. I believe he went into real estate after his career ended but I could be wrong.

Young gun, taken down by injury. Loved Choco. Was a recurring theme through those lean years. Justin Charles, Tony Free, even Graham Polak and I guess Nathan Brown.
And Cogs...and even Richo with knees and cheek bones....

His sister, Carlie, has worked in the AFL as well, spent a lot of time with Ben Cousins and is said to have helped him get to Richmond.

Loved watching Mark play, could take a good grab, such a chame his back couldn't ahndle the rigors of AFL

Remember him being a pretty handy player until he got injured. Also met him, Richo and Bower at the Tunnel (I was very underage) and he was a ripping bloke

Quite a talented player , played like a shorter version of caddy , was pretty hard at it and a good mark, delivered some bone jarring shirtfronts , recall a lethal one v saints or was it swans. Nick named choco after MMs of course. Had a bad back injury , missed heaps of footy and his journey petered out at punt rd , his time at WC was reasonably short lived

Was one of the few players to wear three different numbers at the tigers (39, 28, 8).

Was approached by the Aboriginal community to play in a representative team and had to tell them he was in fact Mauritian.

Back in the 90s when it wasn't full time professional he used to advertise his services as a personal trainer in the fighting tiger magazine.

Good zippy player. Won AFL goal of the year at the eagles.

"Refresh my memory" should be a weekly thread

Loved merenda, his GOTY for west coast was bloody good

Haha the original title I had in mind was "school me on Mark Merenda" but I thought there are too many older blokes on here and they'd have no ****ing idea what I was talking about.
