I haven't posted on here all year, mostly due to an alcohol related mishap which left my laptop keyboard without the use of a, e, w, tab and the mouse, but partly due to how starved of Fosdike action I've been.
I couldn't sleep so I thought I'd do a bit of a regular season in review before I decide for myself whether Fosdike is any chance to make it back into the team this year. I think an angry Match Review Panel may be my only hope....
Best and Fairest contenders :
Brett Kirk : Enough Said.
Ryan O'Keefe : Has been down lately, but the age limit of in-form players is 25 at the moment, so its understandable.
Jarryd McVeigh : Most Improved Player in the Comp. First player to ever kick more goals than the combined distance of those goals in metres.
Jude Bolton : Huge return to form this year.
Better Players who have performed this year :
Darren Jolly : Talk of All Australian until the teams form slump.
Craig Bolton : Suffered from lack of help defensively lately.
Micky O : Was having his best season for years until he got injured.
Adam Goodes : Hasn't been as good as he can be, but still better than most.
Young Guns :
Keiran Jack : I don't think he'll be tagging for much longer.
Jarred Moore : Should be playing Rugby. No-one has ever tackled him.
Craig Bird : I see him more of a work in progress. Benefit from finals experience next to Kirk before he becomes him.
Pat Veszpremi : Got a lot of Nick Davis about him. The Good Nick Davis.
Fringe Players who have stepped up :
Marty Mattner : Done better in the running half back role than his more high-profile teammates. Fitted right in. Actually plays like Leo Barry in a lot of ways, without the "What did I do?" look on his face when Leo gives away another free kick.
Ted Richards : I thought he was such a dork at Essendon. I still do, but he's a good footballer now too.
Paul Bevan : Always put in the effort, now is getting the results.
Jared Crouch : Since he has come back I don't think he has had a possession were he hasn't been on the move and kicked it long. Obviously he takes the new metres gained stat seriously.
Better players who haven't performed so well :
Barry Hall : Has been in good form though since his latest comeback from suspension. Has to survive three more matches without getting suspended to make it to a Grand Final, so maybe if they add up all the little things he did this week and gave him a week for it, it might actually help us in the long run.
Tadgh Kennelly : Don't worry about Tadgh. He's 'armless.
Nick Malceski : Struggled defensively. Hasn't found his groove this year at all. I was considering putting something on him for the Brownlow before they amputated his kicking leg.
Leo Barry : His only function in the team seems to be to run around after Kennelly in case something happens to him, and he can't even do that right!
Spida Everitt : I have always been a big Spida fan. The Spida who looked skillful around the ground. The Spida who could go up forward and take a mark. The Spida who could not only win taps, but tap them to teammates. But when LRT is our other back-up ruck option, the Spida that we ended up getting still gets a game.
Fringe Players who have struggled :
LRT : How did he stop Jonathon Brown? Usually his does most of his defending via osmosis.
Buchanan : One of my favourite sights in footy is him tucking the ball under his arm and get his little legs pumping. Haven't seen it enough this year. He's half the player he was when his siamese twin was still playing for us.
Ablett : To be honest I've rarely noticed him being either bad or good. I would guess bad.
Question Marks :
Heath Grundy : Is in some good form, can play multiple positions when needed. Confidence is high. Doesn't deserve to be dropped. Probably will be though unfortunately.
Henry Playfair : Might be just a co-incidence but we played our best footy when he was in the team.
Nic Fosdike : The secret weapon. Unfairly made the scapegoat of a loss to Geelong, just like Laidlaw last year. Hopefully we see him back in the team sooner. My guess is Roos is just lulling the competition into a false sense of security.
Biggest Disappointments :
Nick Davis : The anti-Brett Kirk. Remember at the start of the year when he joked about being Captain?
Ed Barlow : Lucky I never had money on him for the Rising Star. The TAB would have probably made me come back in and pay them more for wasting their time.
Ben Mathews : Not getting to 200. Not for lack of trying mind you, which would have provided a great example for the kids in the ressies with him.
That the younger players, who must have been considered too tall to be young Swans players, didn't get much of a run this year.
Luv Humph.
P.S. I should have made a comeback to congratulate Corpuscles on his great letter to Trevor Grant the other day, but my screen was upside-down and by the time I finished reading it I had a headache! Great Post!
P.P.S. Do not accidentally hold down Control, Alt and the Down Arrow at the same time, or it might be embarrassing when you can't work out how to turn your screen back the right way up even though you may be doing second year Computer Science at Uni. Control, Alt and Up will fix it up again for ya.
