Who are the players who most rarely let us down?

For me, our most reliable player is Dan Houston. I hardly ever get frustrated with him and am always confident when he is near the contest or the ball.

Tom Jonas is a special mention for being reliable through most of his career (couple of years that were exceptions).

Jonas, Clurey, Houston, Boak (when used properly)

This will be a short thread.
Anyway: Boak Rozee Butters SPP Rocky Lycett, Houston Clurey

Houston!

He’ll rarely ever get any recognition outside of Alberton but he just hardly ever puts a foot wrong and has the composure of a 200+ gamer. First there’s great skill levels, then there’s Dan Houston skill levels.

He could captain this club one day.
One of my favorites.

Robbie.
We know he isn't a 100% set shot but most weeks you know what you are gonna get with him. Didn't have a good night last night and still managed to 20 & 2.

SPP has started the year pretty good and consistent so far.

Yes I love his ability to execute as well. I never hold my breath when he’s kicking it because 9/10 he hits his intended target.

Early days but I get the same feeling with Butters too.

Nah butters is a risk taker. High effort, classy but will take risks and sometimes they haven’t paid off.

Not sure how anyone can judge a guy with three games under his belt? I reckon it takes at least fifty games to establish the question of consistency and reliability. Maybe my definition of reliability is different to other people's. To me reliability has to be proven through consistent effort over a period of time and three games for the PAFC does not do that for me.

The fact that it is hard to find many 100 game players who are reliable says a lot about our list. Travis Boak has averaged 23.3 disposals per game over 246 games but even he has had his down periods. Hamish Harlett, Tom Jonas, Brad Ebert and Justin Westhoff have all had their patches of great form but they have also had a run of outs. With these guys you never really know which player is going to turn up on the day and our results reflect it. Someone else must think that way because it isn't that long ago that we tried to trade Jonas and Hartlett.

I think Robbie Gray is possibly our most reliable player but even he ****s things up with his kicking for goal.

What would a "reliable player" look like? I haven't been following footy for long. I have never seen one of those...

This bloke Tory Dickson. He was late developer - he was drafted when 24 and debuted at 24.5 years old

Has kicked 160 goals 54 points for a 75% conversion rate, 2nd best in V/AFL recorded history since stats started in 1965. See https://afltables.com/afl/stats/accuracy.html

I wrote in this thread in July 2015 https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/best-set-shots-at-the-club.1159157/#post-48974273
On the Couch tonight had stats for the best 5 conversion rates for set shots between 2012 and 2015 for players with a minimum of 50 set shots.

A few days later the The Herald Sun had a story about Dickson
https://outline.com/Jk2npT
THE AFL’s No.1 dead-eyed Dickson can quote the stats to back up the name. Not that Tory Dickson is obsessed by his performance — it’s his mum who can reel off the impressive numbers. The Bulldogs sharpshooter has kicked 18.1 from set shots this season, leading all-comers.
