Still feels like yesterday I had my first Pies jumper on (with 35 on back) practising banana goals in the backyard ... and yelling "Daicos"

... in fact I still do that on the odd occasion. Try it, it's fun :D

Daicos was really the most amazing Collingwood player I have seen.

And I am proud to say I was there when he kicked 13 at Cararra that night, was something to behold.

Strange that most of his absolute best goals were at old VFL/Waverly Park, it's almost a shame they dont play there anymore just for that reason.

It is good to reminisce every now and then, especially in regards to one of our true greats who got something very few modern day Collingwood players get, a flag.:thumbsu:

13? What's the most any player has ever kicked in a game?

Collingwood are well represented. I suppose it's harder to get those high numbers these days.

The game isnt built for it no, but if buddy and hawthorn reach 08 heights again and buddy kicks straight he would give it a nudge id imagine

One of the collingwood players mentioned in that list peter mckenna i grew up hearing stories of from my dad, he had awesome delivery onto his chest and kicked for goals like a sniper shot. I still remember the day my old man spotted him at the football, huge hands and a massive unit (size and shoulders) very nice man as well

I read in the Herald this morning that the absence of Ellis (I think) and Crawford and the delivery they provided has helped diminish their goal returns. Good.:thumbsu:

I saw McKenna play lots of times Opti. He was renowned as the best set-shot from 50 or closer in the league. Think JA, but better because JA's been known to miss the odd one or two. McKenna was a lot prettier than Hellboy too. He had pop star long hair and even cut a record (things we used to play music on before CD's).

Opposition supporters hated him, and would attempt to ridicule the fact that they saw him as soft and unable to take a contested mark. Most of his posessions were chest marks on the lead, from bullet-like passes by that great centreman, Barry Price. Good memories!

yep similar stories to my old man

and on the passes "........and they were stab passes right on the chest, not these lolly pop things that you see today"

I also remember once asking about his contested marking and the answers still makes me smile "he was good at it but always rusty who needs to take a pack mark when you center line gets the ball out of the center and hits you on the lead" cant really argue with that i suppose

Ha! That's a fair response from your old man. Truth is I only saw him once take a contested mark, in the goal square at Windy Hill. He was one out with the Ess fullback and I was right behind him behind the fence. There wasa bit of a jostle but Macca outmarked his opponent. None of us in the crowd behind the goals could believe it!

Macca actually came to Vic Park as an overhead marking CHF!

I saw him play in the practice matches of 1965 and immediately told my Mum to put a No 6 on the back of my Collingwood jumper. Why? Because he had a Beatles' haircut!

McKenna was such an accurate kick and long kick. He could also kick both feet.

The only other forward we have had like him was Craig Davis who could always kick the impossible goal. He was also on of my favourites.

Daicos could be freaky but he only got consistency in the latter part of his career.

He was humbled in the 81 GF by Bruce Doull and the 84 PF by Shane Heard. Shane Heard always played well on him as did Scott Clayton and Ross Thornton of Fitzroy.

Yet he still isn't in the Hall of Fame.

he is so
