Radio Eagle said this morning that there is a strong rumour that a docker is going to announce his retirement today.
Perhaps Shaun McManus.
Has anyone heard anything?

I havent heard anything yet.
who are the candidates?
Mcmanus- most likely
Bell- has he actually said that this was definetly going to be his last year?
Matt Carr- possibly, thirty next year and he would know he is on the outer
Tarrant- god i hope not
Mark Johnson- wouldnt think so, signed a two year deal
Luke Webster- strong possibility that he would give it away now, four knee recos would do that to anyone.
Dean Solomon- nah, still only 28 and playing great footy
Jeff Farmer- ummm, dunno, maybe, he hasnt had a great year, maybe he has lost a bit of the spark.
Andrew browne- possible that he has had enough of injuries

have i missed anyone?

Luke Webster had that knew type of surgery that Malceski had in the hope of making a comeback, there's no chance of him giving up now.

Matt Carr wanted a two year deal, I can't even see him walking at seasons end.

Andrew Browne played WAFL on the weekend, why would he go through the pre-season, get fit, then pull the pin?

Tarrant would miss out on $1.5M if he retired, if he is homesick he may request a trade at seasons end but I doubt he'll retire.

Bell and McManus are the only possibilities if the rumour is true (which I doubt). Bell because he knows that our season is shot and that we need to focus on youth, or Macca because he has been tapped on the shoulder and is doing what is in the clubs best interest. To be honest, unless we win atleast 3 of our next 5 I'd be quite happy for the game against the Kangaroos in round 12 to be a send off for two of our clubs greatest servants. There's no point playing guys in the second half of the season who won't be at the club next year if we are 3-8 or 2-9.

Sorry Dom but dont agree,

It may just be one little bit of advice that either Bell or Macca says to a young fella that changes them for the better.

That is the way I look at it, their advice could be very valuable.

People love to knock Macca, but if more Freo players played the game with the same desire as Macca, we wouldn't be struggling. Macca will keep holding his head high, no one will ever say he "r*ped" the club.

Completely disgraceful rumour - the club should be demanding a public apology from the idiot who started it. It's worse than the Tarrant harrassment and worse than the Bell bashing pre-season.

I'm not a big fan of Macca's and wouldn't be upset if he's not out there on Sunday, but he still has a role to play this season and more than anyone deserves the opportunity to go out on his terms.

People wonder where we get the idea that the media is underhanded in trying to destabilise the club - if this isn't evidence of that, then I don't know what is. They may not respect our team or our club for it's lack of achievements, but if they can't find some respect for individuals like McManus and Bell then they aren't worth the time of day.

“I’ve been here for 14 years. I think I’ve given great service to the Fremantle footy club and I’ve given great service to WA football in my opinion,” McManus said.

“It was disappointing to hear rumours about myself and I’m sure that if people in the general public community had things said untrue about them then they get a bit disappointed.”
Any chance of closing this thread?
