For most, seeing the West Coast Wonders make the Grand Final is a new experience. For many years now the Wonders have been left to make up the numbers, often seen as the laughing stock of the Sweet FA. Though some things change, some things stay the same.

The year is 2001. Mobbenfuhrer has decided to run a bit of an experiment and see if a little game he called 'qooty' could be used to run a fun, online, fantasy football competition. 6 teams are put together with minimum fuss and look set to start the season. At about this time a young upstart 16 year old, going by the online moniker eagleskickass, decides that he wants to get in on the action and starts to put together a seventh team. For much of the preseason it looked unlike this was going to work, but somehow, in some way, the 'Seventh Wonders' were formed.

What happened during the season is mostly forgotten but there is one day in August, 2001 that few people who were around will forget and that day was the 26th August. The inaugural Grand Final was played between Team Kournikova & the 7th Wonders. This was to decide the inaugural premiers. Kournikiva went in favourites but the Wonders knew they had a chance. History tells us Team Kournikova never did, with the Wonders winning rather easily. The final score was KOURNIKOVA : 12.14.86 SEVENTH WONDERS : 17.21.123. The Wonders had won it!

Fast forward to now and the landscape is very different. Most of the original teams are no longer and the play makers are all but different. But this years Grand Final will have a hint of history to it, for the question will be asked 'Can the Wonders FINALLY return to the summit that has been so elusive since that first season?' How that question is answered will be found out shortly. What is for certain is a certain EKA will very much enjoy being back on the big stage and is very much hoping his beloved Wonders can, once again, taste premiership success.

GO WONDERS!

truely a great write up.

The West Coast Wonders have a bit of a Fitzroy / Brisbane or South Melbourne / Sydney like relationship and i hope the team can get up for those historians who saw the 7th wonders win the first flag in Sweet FA history
