Hickey 17 DC points. I know it's not the only measure but I recall a mark, kick and point = 3 + 3 + 1 = 7, then merely 10 points after that. Only wTched first half, was he injured or something?

Pulled a heart muscle before the game and was subbed out early in the 3rd.....

Kicking efficiency, especially entering forward 50 & shots on goal.

Need to work on this big time, I have full faith in Richo & the development coaches.

We also need outside speed who can hit the scoreboard asap, ala Bennell/Hall/Hartung etc

Went to the game. Very hard to watch.

Sydney 31 - St Kilda 28 Inside 50's @ half time. We were competitive around the ball but our offensive disposal is atrocious.

Great coaching move by Longmire playing Rampe on Bruce, allowed Richards and Grundy to dictate play on our lesser players.
There were times when I looked into the forward 50 and it was Bruce, Ross, Murdoch, Weller, Gilbert & Minch - enough said. Missed the natural forwards like Billings, Sinclair, McCartin, Membrey and Lonie.

Jack steven - 33 possessions @ 33% efficiency enough said

Goddard will be a player but still has a lot to learn about positioning and one on one contests. Chips is a great mentor on field.

Richo's mantra of pressure, pressure, pressure needs to change to Pressure, Ball movement, Score.

Great Career Schneiderman.

Except that the AFL website indicates Steven had a DE of 60.6%

Yet again we were very competitive early, but for the umpteenth time of late we got very little reward for effort and as happened against Richmond a few weeks ago in particular, I think the team really dropped their heads at the fact they were working their guts out for little reward and Sydney punished us for it. By the end of the game half of our team had clearly checked out and were planning their end of season trips, with pretty much only the ones who were playing for their next contract busting a gut to the very end (namely Gilbo and Chips, who both played it right out).

The sooner the season ends, the better. The more we work on our kicking into the forward line and for goal over the preseason, the better. Sick of looking up at the scoreboard and seeing us on 1 goal 6, 2 goals 8, 3 goals 13 (like we were a couple of weeks ago), or 4 goals 14 (today). You might as well not show up if you're going to be kicking like that for goal and we're doing it on almost a weekly basis lately.

One play today probably summed up our year. Armo had the ball and he ran into the forward 50 and could have had a clear shot for goal from about 40-45m out, directly in front, but we had two loose about 20m out and he wisely elected to kick it to one of them, but unfortunately he managed to miss them both with the 20m pass and it went straight to the only Sydney player in that general area. So we had 3 golden opportunities to score a goal (either he takes the relatively easy shot himself, or he hits either one of them with the 25m pass and they have a shot from about 25m out), but we ended up taking the 4th of 3 options and totally blowing it.

Remember when we were tuning up for finals?

Well that's what I thought today was.

33% by foot they said on MMM.

On the way home in the Car, Triple MMM had him at 33 disposals at 33% KE, should have specially said kicking efficiency.

so that means he had 5 kicks of his 15 hit their targets, not good but not a lot of our players would have had that many more effective kicks, it also means most of his 18 HB were effective, his 6 tackles were effective, his 7 clearances was club high, his 17 contested possessions also club high (Gilbert on 9 cp was second), I think he was our best player - I agree his kicking is imperfect but I also believe that he will be a better player when he isn't doing the majority of the grunt work.
Sydney didn't need to do much homework on us to know who to focus on with match ups. We were outclassed on the field and off the field, but Steven was not the cause of this.

OK, so there's been plenty of negatives, so I've had a bit of a look for some positives for today and I found some!

-Brodie Murdoch really showed something early in the game when we were at our most competitive, were getting it into his area (forward) a fair bit and before he probably ran out of juice (after all, he's never had anything resembling a full preseason and is possibly still carrying a back injury). He led up to the ball really well, kicked it really well (both to targets around the field and the long shot for goal), tackled, chased and pressured really well and could have easily enough had a 2nd goal later in the game, after taking a mark 45m out (pretty much directly in front), but understandably and unselfishly gave Schneider the handpass as he ran past.

In that early part of the game he looked like someone who well and truly belonged out there and I'll say it again for anyone who still lumps him in with the likes of Dunstan and Ross, as far as speed (or lack of it) goes, he is genuinely quick and has some real explosiveness and power. It was very evident a couple of times today when he was chasing and harrassing. He was moving at the sort of speeds that Dunstan and Ross would dream of and I saw it in a game last year as well- The game v Richmond in the 2nd-last round when Spencer White was playing his first game: There was one occasion when I saw someone for us run down the wing from half forward to half back at a rate of knots and I just assumed it was White, because he had a bit of height about him and he covered a lot of ground in a very short space of time, but on closer inspection it was Brodie- He has some proper wheels and explosiveness to go with his fantastic kick and really strong hands and attack on the ball or man. I really hope we get to see him at full fitness, in peak form and off a full preseason next year, as he really has some very desirable attributes. I don't care if he makes it in the midfield, the forward line, or the backline, he is just someone who I really feel we need to make it somewhere, anywhere.

- Someone else who's speed I really noticed today was Jason Holmes. He not only has a big leap like Nic-Nat, but like Nic he is also genuinely quick for his size and there were a few times today when that was really noticeable, especially if he was chasing after a loose ball, or going after someone to tackle or harass them. He is definitely not your traditional "big lumbering ruckman" and he was able to use that burst speed and some cat-like reflexes numerous times to put pressure on, tackle, or get a quick hand in to block a handball (his basketball background would really help with that). His timing was off with a lot of his leaps today and Tippett/Pike were jumping early to try and counteract his much bigger leap (a sure sign that they were concerned about him), but when he did get hands to it he won some really decisive hitouts and I can really see him being a weapon in the future if he continues to develop well. There is a lot to work with there, some serious upside.

- Our 3rd up hitouts. I thought they were really effective around the ground and we won hitout after hitout in this manner at the around-the-ground ball-up's. This is another advantage of having Roo and Gilbo around the ball and they won 7 hitouts between them (Nick 5, Sam 2), going 3rd-up. Goddard and Seb also had 3 each and Chips had one. That's as many as 14 hitouts going 3rd up.

Blake Acres is also really good at these and hopefully he'll give us plenty of these going forward.

-For someone who I kept on reading was "cooked" a couple of days ago, my man Sam Fisher sure was good in a return to a non-KPF type role. 24 disposals, at 87%, 11 marks (bloody hell his hands are safe), including 5 intercept marks, 6 rebound-50's and 4 1%ers. I'll have some more of that please! Another year of it in fact.

-Hugh Goddard's reading of the ball in flight. Time after time I was impressed with Hugh's ability to read the flight of the ball perfectly and plonk himself in the perfect position (the drop of the high, long ball) in a very crowded area. In these big pack situations he continually gave himself the opportunity to either mark the ball himself, or at the very least get hands or a fist to it and ensure that no-one from the other team marked it. I am so looking forward to watching him play in a couple of years time, when he's more experienced/developed/fitter and has added some more muscle to his large frame.

Was pumped to see him moved forward, too and it was a major bummer that Jimmy Webster missed his first target in what feels like ages, when Hugh was all alone about 30m out, right in front and all Jimmy had to do was hit him with a 20m chip-kick that he'd usually nail in his sleep.

- Seany Dempster clunking another semi-hanger!

- The way Gilbo finished off the game. Was one of very few who I thought would be able to hold his head high for not having thrown in the towel and after a quiet start to the game I was really happy with the way he cracked in in the 2nd half and won a bunch of hard-fought contested possessions. I really think that if he and Rooey have full preseasons and injury free 2015's and spend the majority of the year in the midfield that they could really help to transform our midfield (along with the likes of Billings/Dunstan/Acres/Sinclair etc. spending more time there) and give it some much, much needed depth, to take the load off Armo and Steven.

- The final siren going!

Have to agree with what a few others said, even though it was a very, very bad game- lot's of skill errors, lots of bad decisions and just general bad play, at least the umpires were good for the most part, which is a breath of fresh air. That's one positive.

The whole team defended very poorly today... you can see their trying to move the ball quickly but disposal remains very poor and today our tackling pressure was parhetic. Team didnt look interested.. some of the non tackles were laughable. Certain players need to be more consistent or they will quickly realise afl mortality.
Ross's disposal is not up to standard. He needs to work hard and quickly to get yhis right otherwise he will be gone.
The whole team needs to improve kicking skills over summer.
This was utterly disapointing.
Were so much better than that.
Having Sincs, Lonie and Billings in our team makes our efficency 10 times better.. Need to find more of them. Disposal efficiency is key.

Very disappointing to lose by that much, I wasn't expecting us to win but I thought we would be more competitive than that.

I ended up just listening to the game on the radio as I couldn't find a decent stream, probably a good thing I didn't watch it by the sounds of it.

Hopefully we can put on a better showing against West Coast next Saturday night, would be great if we could cause an upset but I'd be happy if we could just be competitive and not get thumped like yesterday.

Would be really deflating to finish the year with two beltings so hopefully our players can lift for our last game.

Look, Pyke should Holmes where he needs to get to regarding around the ground, but when Pyke started he was a lot further behind than Holmes is now.

I can see why they wanted to see Goddard forward for a bit but he wasn't doing anything wrong before that down back.

When Bruce gets disrespected like he did by having Rampe on him he needs to impose on the contest.

Hickey needs to weed the inconsistency out of his game.

This may sound really unsportsmanlike, but when an opposition player drops in the hole in front of our intended target & our bloke is also a chance to mark the ball, we never make body contact with them. It's like we just allow them to mark it.

The number of times our blokes just made a half-hearted jump at the ball was really pathetic. I want to see a fair dinkum leap with a knee up & really make the opposition player earn it or at least make them 2nd guess themselves the next time they want to do it. Just crunch them. Hit the pack like your Stewie Loewe or Kosi.

tom mitchells on 300 to 400k bog sunday sliced us apart. jacks on 700k the level if skill between the 2 is a planet apart that pretty much sums up where our list is at at the moment.

That's from Mitchell's old contract he signed in 2013 though. Pretty poor comparison. Pretty sure his next contract will be $600kpa easily.... And let's not forget that they still get an extra $900k in their cap

To be fair to Jack, he & Armo are the only blokes who ever get 30+ possessions. Other teams always have at least another 2-3 players pushing up to 30 touches as well. While I agree that Jack's disposal is substandard at times, at least he has the desire to bust his gut to get the ball - a key attribute that about 80% of our team are missing IMHO
