Does anyone out there in the know , know what the state of play is with Ty Zantuck ?

Be interested to know if the club has sat down with him and discussed his future and where he is at ? Is he disgruntled and considering his future ?

Big article in the age today linking an AFL football player with the criminal underworld . As Zantuck was flimed at Moran snr`s funeral i wonder if it is him ?

Where is the boy at ?

The article mentions the player was in the 2003 finals so you can rule out any tiger. It also says he is a former All-Australian.

Apparently rumours on other sites suggest he is in Vegas holidaying with the worst possible role model he could find. (a roo turned crow)

Other comments I've seen posted suggest he has accepted he is going to be at Richmond and is now willing to give it his all, I'd imagine he will have to work extra hard to get selected though.

The player you are referring to is Chris Johnson from the Lions who was in regular contact with a gangland indentity. Confirmed in the Herald Sun this morning.

i can confirm from club 80 last night that zantuck will not be playing next year. Might be delisted but i dont know, he will not be playing next year.

Terry aslo wants a experienced defender in the draft that we will have for 18 months or so.

That would be breach of contract would it not ?

Can anyone else confirm this ?

He has got big problems if he is willing to stand out of footy

He is going to be delisted, Wallace has said we will be able to do it without it costing the club a cent. This indicates to me that the club and Zantuck have come to a mutual agreement to terminate the contract.

There was a tiger80 dinner last night in which Wallace, Miller and Wright all spoke. The info I posted was said by Wallace on the night, along with a lot of other interesting info.

There is only one concievable reason why Richmond ( Miller ) would delist a player like Zantuck without us getting anything for him IMO ..............

I reckon they have got thier eye on a pretty big fish in the PSD and letting Zantuck out of his contract would free up the cash to land someone really decent .

Clint Bizzell would certainly stiffen up our paper thin backline somewhat .

I can hear you all " no more recycled players , kids " and i have been bleating that too but our backline is something that desperatly needs a short term solution , particularily if Gasper does not come up .

It makes the move to trade Fiora for Simmonds even more canny so as to hold onto the 1st pick .

The pieces of the puzzle are starting to come together

Actually Wallace said at that dinner that the senior players have no respect for him anymore and that's the main reason he is going, too many incidents off the field.

But contractually, it helps us significantly if we can unload him for nothing. It would have been nice if the Essendon trade went through but at least we have another large salary off the books.

As for someone like Bizzell, I like him as a player, but from the reports I've read he's asking for a fair bit. Wallace did say there were three players he was looking at with the number one PSD pick, of which Bowden was one.

Zantuck is certainly on over $250,000 next season.
Not a cheap exercise to offload if he wants the $ in his pocket .You could just tell the Richmond players had no respect for Zantuck when he was shaking M.Williams around and none of his teammates went in to fly the flag for him when Everitt stepped in when they played the Hawks.Good info there.

That M Williams incident was a disgrace. It just showed a lack of spirit amongst the playing group. I don't rate Zantuck and his actions were mindless, but, other players should have stepped in and squared up with Everret.

Too many of them are controlled by their hip pocket and don't love the colours enough. To play for the RFC should be the ultimate privilege.

For the club to move forward we need a deeper bond to hold the playing group the together than the total player payments.

That's a key test for Wallace. develop a resolve and committment for the club and one another amongst in the playing group. Normally starts to develop on the back of winning matches.

Geez why let a player with some real mongrel go!
M.Pike has had trouble his whole career but like Zantuck the boy can play!
Why take the easy option make him be a tiger + earn back some respect!
As for the M.Williams thing not enough of this stuff for 20 years;
bring back the toothless tiger approach!
How else can the tiger return to be feared this a good test of the coaching
staff IMO!The broom has swept most of the rubbish but Terry Wallet
has to earn his $$$$$ IMO!

Zantuck decision set to hit draft
By Stephen Rielly
October 26, 2004

A firmer outline of the pre-season draft landscape is likely to emerge within the next six days, with Richmond meeting Ty Zantuck today and Patrick Bowden's intentions to be known by Monday, when the Western Bulldogs begin pre-season training.

Richmond's director of football Greg Miller is to meet with Zantuck and his management this afternoon to discuss ways in which the disgruntled defender can take the last year of his $250,000-a-season contract elsewhere.

Zantuck and the Tigers agreed to part last month but were left with one another when deals mooted with the Kangaroos and Essendon during the trade period foundered.

Zantuck was in New York at the time on a holiday and will speak with Miller for the first time since returning to Melbourne last week about an unusual eleventh hour exit from Punt Road.

Essentially, if a new club commits to drafting Zantuck in December, the Tigers can delist him and not carry the full weight of his contract.

"All I can say is that we are meeting to sort through the issues," Miller said yesterday.

The outcome of today's discussions are certain to have a large bearing on the pre-season draft, for, if Zantuck remains at Richmond, the Tigers are unlikely to have a great deal of money to spend on an uncontracted player.

If he departs, they may be able to raise their sights and consider a player such as Brisbane ruckman Clark Keating, who is yet to agree to terms with the Lions.

Zantuck's future will certainly affect that of Bowden, who has a two-year offer from the Bulldogs before him, a new deal that is understood to enable him to earn $350,000 over seasons 2005-06.

With interest from Richmond, where older brother Joel has been entrenched for nine years, he has to date declined to commit to the deal and the Bulldogs believe they will know of his plans if he is absent next week.

With the first pick in the pre-season draft, the Tigers can offer Bowden a certain path to Punt Road if he, and they, decide to come together.

Richmond spoke with Bowden in early September, as it did with Lindsay Gilbee when he indicated he was keen to leave Whitten Oval, but has made no firm pre-season offer for the 191-centimetre forward while the calibre of player available in that draft remains uncertain.

Keating and Ashley McGrath remain uncontracted, with Collingwood declaring its interest in the 21-year-old Brisbane defender.

Tigers try for Zantuck trade
By Stephen Rielly, Caroline Wilson
October 27, 2004

Disgruntled Richmond defender Ty Zantuck has been excused from the club's pre-season training until his future is determined.

Zantuck and his management met Richmond football director Greg Miller yesterday to discuss ways in which the two parties might find the amicable split that was unable to be negotiated during the recent trade period.

Zantuck asked to be traded, in part because of a fractious relationship with a number of senior players, and the Tigers agreed to find him a new home that, at various times, was mooted to be Melbourne, the Kangaroos or Essendon. Ultimately, though, club and player were left with one another and will be unless a club commits to draft him on a deal that will override his current agreement with Richmond.

Zantuck is contracted for 2005 on about $250,000 and the Richmond players of his experience are due to start their pre-season training tomorrow.

Zantuck's manager Anthony McConville said after yesterday's meeting with Miller that nothing had been agreed to and suggested that it would take a lot more time to reach that point.

It is believed that Essendon and the Kangaroos remain interested in Zantuck although the Dons and Tigers have not spoken since narrowly failing to swing a deal on him minutes before the trade deadline.

The Tigers have moved closer to luring dual Kangaroos premiership player David King as an assistant coach.

New coach Terry Wallace and his football director Greg Miller held talks with King yesterday in a bid to secure an agreement with the recently retired All-Australian to work a four-day week at the club along with some media commitments.

And former Essendon ruckman Steven Alessio also could come on board as the Tigers' first official ruck coach for some years. Alessio, who works for the Melbourne Cricket Club, was also interviewed by Richmond yesterday.

With Wallace's former assistant Brian Royal moving from the Kangaroos to Richmond and David Wheadon re-assuming his assistant coaching role at the club, King would complete the team as an offensive coach.

Wallace is also believed to be keen to introduce a younger mentor into his football department.

It is believed that the Tigers - who will lose at least $2.5 million this season and have been forced to cut costs in the football department - have asked King to work with Wallace three days a week and on matchdays.

While the 32-year-old has been weighing up whether to pursue a career outside football, he favours remaining in the industry and has indicated his interest to the club.

Ironically, the former Kangaroo's income could be supplemented by him replacing Wallace in his Saturday night commentary role at 3AW.

And in a further irony, his main competition to join Dwayne Russell's Saturday night team is former Richmond coach Danny Frawley.

With the Tigers to play only two Saturday night games next season, King has been sounded out by 3AW chief Shane Healy, who confirmed he had been placed on a shortlist to replace Wallace on Saturday nights.

"We've spoken with David and tried him out a few times and have been pretty impressed with his commentary," said Healy last night.

"He has the right credentials and media smarts to work as a commentator."

There in lies tke key difference between the supporters who sit through crap seasons hoping for a ray of sunshine in the future, and players who ARE controlled by their hip pockets, and are told god knows what by their managers.

The proud "one club for life" are a dying breed. Would you leave your job for more money, or to go to a better company?

It's human nature.

Hard to see Zantuck staying after reading this in one of Caro's articles

"Wallace did not flinch in explaining the reasons behind the departure of Ty Zantuck, a player whose attitude and behaviour - Zantuck has been scathing in interviews with other clubs about his old teammates - he said could no longer be tolerated by the leadership group."

If we are going to have a batch of 10-15 young kids at the club who we want to build our future on, getting rid of a cancerous influence like Zantuck becomes important. They need good role-models not someone who knows every shortcut and cop-out in the book.

You're right weaver. If we're following a youth policy, no bad influences needed around the club.

I wont be sorry to see Zantuck go, but who knows why he dislikes the senior players. Is it because they treated him badly when he first joined the club and was making his way?

As far as I'm concerned we're better off without Zantuck, but we're also better off with most of the senior players he's fallen out with. They're just as bad an inflience on young players as Zantuck would be.
