Rhys Palmer: 34 possessions and 5.2 Vs Vic Metro
Please tell me more about this guy ?

As Scotty Clayton said, he got himself drafted today.

Was very good today. Not a terrific kick but not a bad one either. mentioned he runs a 15 + beep which is extrordinary, and judging y his footspeed id say hed be around the 2.98-3.05 sec mark for a 20m sprint, which is very swift aswell.

Honestly was more impressed with Maston/Moston? (#3) who spoon-fed him three of his goals in quick succession.

Tough, ball-winner, good tackling, excellent vision, good kick, great hand-ball. Not the quickest or best athlete, but just a good footballer. Reminds me a bit of Lewis (hawks) - if he could follow a similar physical development path he would be a very handy player.

Palmer was just everywhere. Only time he wasn't dominant was when #12 for Vic Metro was shifted onto him (who beat everyone he played on all day from my perspective - who is he?)

That'd be Mitchell Farmer

Height and weight?

I can't be bothered looking. :D
180 76. would have thought he was a tad heavier. was there today and was super impressed. not just well rounded but tough as well got absolutely driven into the ground in the 3rd quarter and got straight up. hes been good for east freo so far this yr and it comes as no surprise to see him have a blinder. i suppose the cat is well and truly out of the bag now.

Very good game. Looks like the type of junior who will take the transition to AFL in his stride and not miss a beat. Strong leadership potential.

Liked his ability to be inside and outside whenever he wanted the footy, and while he's not absolute elite for pace, he'll make up for it with stamina, will and intelligence.

If I had to make a comparison, Cooney would be close.

He's a dud.

(Please slip to the Hawks first pick) :)
The last thing the Hawks need is another midfielder.

Palmer is too small for the AFL so I think he'll slide to our second round pick. ;)

He' a midfielder with pace.

Ofcourse we need one of those.
Of course you'll take him if he's that good and there at your first pick.

But didn't you start a thread asking who were the best available key defenders in this year's draft?

You need a key defender as much, if not more than you need a quick midfielder.

Nah. You're right, we need a defender, but with the proper gameplan you can cover for a lack of height down back.

Gameplan or not, you can't cover for a lack of pace in your players.

At this stage, it looks like we'll get a pick in the 10-16 range.

I'd hope we'd pick one of Maric or Palmer if available.

I don't understand all this talk of the Hawks needing another defender. We have just dropped Jacobs this week due to too many options in the backline. On top of that, we have Dowler, Murphy, Dawson and Thorp all KPP pushing for selection. Not all are going to fit in our forward line.

Personally, I feel our clear priority is a quick outside midfielder in the Daniel Wells mold. Provide that touch of mercurial elegance to our already strong midfield.

Exactly. Hawks hardly need anymore KPP, just because they arnt playing, doesnt mean the base isnt in place.

Thorp imo, will do a Pavlich, start his career off down back then forward/midfield.

hes a pretty handy player to have developing whilst your winning, to come into your side, he can play anywhere, and is exceptional down back.

Hawks need a crumber/speedster, Maric as the crumber would be perfect, although hes not everyones cup of tea, hes almost the perfect last peice in hawthorns rebuilding jigsaw.

You were after Thornton just last year and I believe two of the players you've mentioned are forwards. The jury is out on Dawson as a defender and Murphy is a tad undersized going by his height. You have Gilham who was a rookie pick(delisted by Port) playing on the likes of Fevola and Campbell Brown punching above his weight on the likes of a Lucas.

You would snap up a Hansen in a heartbeat if he was there. ;)

Who is the best key defender in the draft?

Mark Williams will be a great addition to the Hawks best 22 and can play up the ground or as a crumber now Franklin has come of age.

I think North or Hawthorn will get him. Just looks like a player that could like normal in one of those jerseys.

if i were to give an exact compasrison i would say 'stuart maxfield' the way he plays and even the way he looks. He runs extremely hard, breaks lines, has confidence in his ability, posesses beautiful skills and kicks goals. LOVES TO TAKE THEM ON!!!...Goal kicking mids make me 'salivate'. Some moron said his kicking is not bad yet not great, actually his kicking is fantastic. Would make the transition to AFL comfortably and will have a bright future.
