Richards vs. Bryan Debate Now Settled!

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Both are utterly shite beyond all comprehension.

I admit I was unfair to Richards earlier on, simply because I mistakenly believed Bryan must be better than a netball player. I was wrong.

Bryan is just as bad, because he obviously thinks it's okay to turn up on match day and play, without putting in during the week on the training track. His ruckwork is worse than Richards', and while he is capable of a contested mark, we already have players who can do that and can play out an entire game.

Bryan isn't a ruckman's ********, and Richards is a netball player. Neither are worthy of a spot next year, but due to MM's complete apathy toward ruckmen, we're likely to have them being rotated like a revolving door for years to come. :thumbsu:

agree Fraser should ruck alone and maybe Maxwell cox rocca or Clocke could help but thats changing so MM wont do it

What do you reckon Sampler. Spare Fraser (obviously) and start again with a revamped Ruck department. Make our weakness a strength.

Bryan and Richards must go. Trade for a currently listed ruckman. Draft 1 kid, Draft Michael Griffeths, and rookie list a ruckman. Like you have stated though MM doesn;t rate them, although the last 4 or 5 sides to win premierships have had strong ruck divisions.

We should take over. So in hindsight, Keating or Bryan. LOL. Was absolutely shattered we didn't give Keating a crack.

I've been pushing the Meesen bandwagon for quite a while now. He's a former #8 draft pick, likely coming back to Victoria and at 20 has quite a developed body, very good mobility and huge upside.

We could probably get him with a 2nd round pick or equivalent player, as Adelaide are in a weak bargaining position. If they play hardball, they risk him going to Richmond or Carlton in the pre-season draft.

Any improvement on Richards/Bryan would be welcome, however. I hate that we haven't had a proper tap ruckman since Monkhorst, and that's no disrespect intended to Josh, who does a fantastic job with no support whatsoever.

Our biggest defiency. Unfortunately Collingwood have never been good at the trading table so getting rid of something for a good ruckman is beyond our abilities. Maybe Meeson is the go, but living in Adelaide you rarely hear anything good about him - in fact all you hear about him is that he's more than likely trade bait and he's a sook for wanting to go home. Surely we have to aim for an up and coming ruckman or perhaps we go left field and get a handy ex basketballer to take the tap outs and throws ins (without the bodywork) - yeah, I'm talking Pendles. he couldn't be worse than Fanning?

Actuallly hasn't Fanning been doing well in the magoos? Might be worth another rookie listing. If home is Victoria for Meeson then he might come good.

Bryan is better than this squib at least Bryan makes some kind of contest. You cant expect a ruckman who at best gets 10minutes a qtr to come out and dominate after a month in the VFL. We need to choos on of the second ruckman and play them no matter how bad they start off chopping and changing doesnt help anyone.

Also we have to keep one on the list a first year ruckman will get killed if not by players but by moron supporters we treid with just one ruckman sometimes none and it got us no where, just grit your teeth and bear it sooking about this and that aint gonna change the fact.

Brayn and Fraser actually worked well last night the problem was the MIDFIELD did sweet **** all didnt read taps didnt positon right absolutely sweet FA not Bryans fault there.

Our ruck situation is deplorable -- you'll get no arguments from me. But last night we actually won the ruck contests pretty decisively. It's at ground level that we were smashed.

We need to trade for a ready-made ruckman and draft an U18er, and then maybe rookie list another U18er.

I'd be surprised if we got rid of both Richards and Bryan because that leaves us with only one specialist ruck on the list in Fraser. It's a hard ask to practically rebuild an entire ruck division in only one draft.

I agree. They are both as bad as each other. Probably Guy Richards offers the team more at the centre bounce but Chris Bryan looks more adept around the ground and we shouldn't drop him to the reserves on the back of last night's performance.

I think Fraser will be a key forward for us in the future so I reckon we need to get quality ruckman till than and develop them. Once Rocca is gone Fraser will be a key forward for us and will see him play his best football.

wats so funny I think we should start recruiting a promising ruckman to release Josh in the forward line more.

I don't think Josh is any more than serviceable as a forward. IMO if we got an A-grade ruckman, Josh would simply become our second-string ruck. I don't see that there's room for him in the forward line with Rocca and Cloke, and with the likes of Reid, Rusling, and Dawes hopefully coming through over the next couple of years.

scottyD votes Richards.... At least he can kick!
Bryan tried hard last night but still is shite.

Richards kick your kidding me Bryanb is the ruckman with foot skills, Richards is the the Ruck that can tap damnit he offer NOTHING over the ground

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The best thing that Richards and Bryan have got going for each other at Collingwood, is each other. They are both so bad that they give the other one the opportunity to play.

And in typical MM fashion, he will take 2-3 seasons to realise what blind freddy can already see. That they are both duds of the highest order and should not be getting a game, let alone on our list.

And in typical Collingwood fashion, the club will probably finally realise this in approx. 5 seasons. (see Ben Kinnnear, Jason Wild, Scott Paterson, etc, etc)

NEither should be selected again, Rocca should be played purely as a second ruckmen, and either Reid, or Rusling should come in as full forward.

At the current rate, Dawes will surpass Rusling as a forward option. 7 goals in the Willi 2's in his first game with full game time, coming back after an ACL. Phenomenal.

I agree with every single word here. Just as important as getting a solid ruckman is getting a good inside mid who can get clearances. We won the ruck pretty comprehensively IMO Friday night.

I could be completely wrong here but don't ruckman usually need about 6-8 years in the system before they hit their stride?? Bryan has only been in the system for a couple of years so you never know.
Still, their both completely shit, get rid of them ASAP.
