havent been down to willy this year, has he put on any weight (given that he had glandular)? is he to small to debut at the mom?

You could say he is still the same as last year, has to get his fitness up before debuting

I know of a hell of alot of collingwood supporters singing(myself included) cole's praises in his first couple of years. And yet none of them seemed to be on this board. As a 19 yo he was pretty and on the second half of 2003 and up until the gf he had a very good finals , in particular his game against port in the prelim was very good considering his age. While he went of the boil for one reason or another and I am glad we traded him, he did show promise and i don't recall to many people complaining about drafting him.

In particular I remember driving home from a collingwood game mid 2004 when richie had a very good game against west coast. Many collingwood supporters where ringing up saying how much they liked him etc etc . Terry wallace was in the box and said when they selected sam power(top 10) in the same draft they tossed up between him and cole and he said in hindsight cole would have been a better option.

I think alot of people have short memories and criticism of our recruiting is a bit harsh as cole did look the goods early on in many peoples opinion.

People need to remember that the draft is a bit like a stock market and you never no for sure how some players will develop.

Ryan Cook probably WOULDN'T have gone top 10-15 this draft, but he would have been drafted before our next pick at #37, and while he does need to improve to justify his draft position, being so young makes it likely that he will.

We essentially went for a younger player that may turn into something special rather than an older player who was slightly more of a known quantity.

Yeah but what I was wondering was whether he was actually that talented. Simply drafting a player simply because they are younger is stupid unless they actually have superior talent.

If Ryan Cook was a year further ahead in his development, then he would have been top 15 in last years draft.

To not be a top 15 player in this particular upcoming draft is no shame, because this is one of the strongest draft classes in recent memory.

However, his potential is very much on par with a top 10-15 player in most ordinary drafts, hence why he was drafted where he was.

as thomas has played only two games you cant yet mke an accurate decision but by the looks of things in the not to distant future the odds will swing towards dale thomas quick question can i ask why players like chris egan have been given oppurtunity after oppurtunity and have been a liability to the pies week in and week out and yet delisted players like bo nixon etc were given limited oppurtunity and were released i feel had any of these players been given the same oppurtunity as egan many of them would have performed much better and grown into more solid players than egan will be also anyone agree?

Bo Nixon and Shackleton were crap. Solid players my ass. Nixon couldn't even get a game with Hawthorn and Shack struggles with Tasmania.
Egan has talent. Big difference.
Not everyone comes on like Judd and (seemingly) Thomas.

imo you couldn't be further off the mark with the bo nixon v egan comments . Nixon has had the chance at 2 clubs and was not up to it, if you get 2 chances and dont make it then you can't complain. He never even looked like it to me. While egan has some flaws and has started poorly this year anyone one who is to critical of what he acheived last year is a harsh judge. He like many other rookies were given a chance because of the injuries last year and I dont think to many of them dissapointed(except hall). Egan played some ok games last year and while I am not sure how good he will be he has far more talant then bo nixon. His first few games were very good for a 1st year player and like most first year players dropped off at the end of the season.

I cannot think of one player who we have delisted in the last few years that did not deserve to go.

Cole was a very good player on a good day but extremely bad on a bad day and im shore that thomas will have a bad day sumtime hopefully never but i think that thoms has shown alot more in the first 2 games then cole did in the last 2 years.u can just see the hunger and committment he wants to put in where asd i thought coley was just taking the ride after his first year.thomas looks to be a superstar in the making

Nothing though on these players being bottom age, and how good they would be and how high up the draft with another years development. If Pendlebury were a year older, it looks likely by his current form for Willi that he would maybe go top 5 in the next stronger draft, maybe Stanley even top 10-15.

Yeah, you're right about Stanley being younger - 7th youngest in the draft I believe, however, he's already quite physically developed.

Meanwhile, Pendlebury, Cook and Anthony all have a lot of body mass to put on from here, and that will shape how they perform.

Cook just seems like the type who has so much ability, but is yet to put it all together, and we're banking on him doing that.

Obviously with his basketball background, Pendlebury has a lot of improving left to do, while Anthony is a defender, which always means a long learning curve for any young player.

What kind of player is Cook anyway? As in who would you compare him to in the AFL? It would be nice if every player from this draft go on to be guns for Collingwood, already it looks likely that barring injuries, Thomas, Pendlebury, Stanley and Anthony will all be 100 game players for the Pies, and possibly much more than that.

I'd say Cook could be a Brett Burton/Ryan O'Keefe-type half forward.

Of those at the club now, I'd say perhaps most like Caracella, but stronger overhead.

Would say he's a cross between Didak & Caracella build wise. Good overhead as you said, solid skills, but probably gets himself into more trouble than he should (inverse of Pendles I suppose). Drifts in and out of games a bit.

Very young so upside with age is what we're banking on, and has a couple of good attributes which can't really be taught, but I reckon he's the least likely to make it of the 05 crew.

I rated Richard Cole, I still do talent wise. The problem is he has obviously accepted mediocrity.
