Essendon...if theres one day when that bloody Tiger skin would actually get a run its if we beat those buggers in the Dreamtime game. For me its the Sheedy factor and the wish for some payback. 1972 still lingers but Carlton arent the Carlton of old. As for the toothless and tattoed ones they are as big a cot cases are we are regardless of supporter base, home game crock and money poured in. 2 lost Grannies for the cost of the entire budget of SE Asia always makes me giggle.

Thats actually a good question.

I personally like beating Collingwood the most. It just tastes the best :P

But i dont mind beating anybody else really ;p

Essendon are like our little sisters.
Collingwood are like the ******ed relative.
Carlton are like the brother in pentridge.

As froars said, Carlton are now our biggest rivals.

None of the other team's supporters consider us much of a rival. Understandable considering their average age and Richmond's competitiveness over the past couple of decades.

People like to pump up the Victorian rivalries, but to be honest the only time I ever feel that rivalry and an extra hunger to win is against the Dogs. Some good, close matches have been had ever since that fateful day, round 2 2001 (funny Terry was coaching them then!). The way we took our revenge in round 17 was one of the better wins of my time.

I also love beating the Kangaroos because of the way they belted us black and blue in the 90's.

Nonsense mate. They all consider us rivals. Look at Big 4 attendances when we have been doing as well as the rest. HUGE.

The biggest Rivals are Collingwood. We dismiss them as wobblers and they pretend they don't care but it'sthe biggest most fanatic rivalry in the game. Over the past 12 years Collingwood V Richmond has drawn an average of 61,000 which is only 1,000 less than the Non ANZAC Collingwood V Essendon ( ANZAC Day attendance is pumped and doesn't count) despite Essendon topping ladder regularly and us being usually nowhere. Pies V Tiges is massive.

Second is Carlton. I love the Tiger V Blue game and again huge when we have form.

Third is Essendon. They are a massive club which has cashed in on being successful during the attendance boom but we don't really have a rivalry history. Great to beat them though.

Its nice to see you try to pump it up but beaver is right. Our constant failure for 25 years has stopped their hatred somewhat compared to the success of Collingwood, Dons, and Blues in that time and being up against each other, particularly Dons-Blues.

Their thoughts of rivalry against us have dropped. I have no doubt.

What It's boils down to is personal choice, which club annoys you the most. For me it's the Magpies I never could stand them.

Essendon and Richmond have basically never really bumped into each other. When they are up, we are down, and vice versa.

We've only played Essendon in 9 fnals.

Excluding the WW2 years 1940-44 when both teams made the finals ... we just don't make the finals in the same years. Just the 6 finals campaigns.

1924, 1947, 1972, 1982, 1995, 2001

In contrast we've played Collingwood and Carlton in 6 grand finals each.

Fair enough Phoenix but look at Blues V Bombers crowds falling through the floor since 2002. Only 1 of their last 10 games has broken 60,000. It's all down to form and expectation. If Carlton V Essendon sees both in the 8 it will draw 75,000 just like Tigers V Bums would do.

There is essentially no real difference in Blues, Bombers and Tigers support when each are going well. I got rubbished a few months ago for pointing this out but look at any series of seasons when 2 of them are going well eg Blues and Bombers betwem 1993 and 1996 and compare same opposition at same venue and you'll see the differences are tiny. All the rivalries respond to form.
