Tigers to drop Richo

Matthew Richardson’s dummy spit at the MCG last Friday night has had dire ramifications with Richmond announcing that he will be dropped from the side for Saturday night’s clash with the Brisbane Lions for “disciplinary reasons”.
The club made the announcement at a training session at Punt Road on Monday.
The star forward endured a horrible night against the Blues in his 150th game, which the Tigers lost by one point, and was involved in two incidents that would doubtless have incurred the wrath of the club.
The first came in the second quarter when he gestured angrily towards Matthew Knights after the ball was delivered to the forward line in a haphazard manner. Richardson appeared to give up in disgust half way through his lead for the ball.
The second came in the final term when Richardson, in a position to kick the ball to put Richmond back in front, gave the ball off to first year player David Rodan, who was unable to grab it cleanly and instead fumbled the ball through for a behind.
Richardson finished the match with just six possessions and two marks. Coach Danny Frawley said after the match: “Richo would the first to admit his game was sub-standard.”
The move to drop Richardson is a continuation of the firm discipline imposed on the club by Frawley since he took over as coach in 2000. Brad Ottens, Nick Daffy and Royce Vardy have all been dropped from the side because of disciplinary reasons in the past two and a half seasons.
Richardson’s on-field body language has long been an issue at Punt Road. The player even addressed it in an interview with the AFL Record at the start of the year when he said: "The body language is definitely an issue, and I’m working on it. I’m aware that it can look ordinary. I've just got to make sure there are no instances so that people can't talk about it."
Richardson is out of contract at the end of the season and is likely to have to take a significant pay cut to remain at the club, after the Tigers dug deep to re-sign Brad Ottens and Darren Gaspar.
