Just a heads up to any fans out there. Ricky is doing a launch of his new book in Perth - probably all over Australia.

I know he is doing an appearance at Aquinas College on Thursday night(you can call the college to see if there's any seats left) - it's a gold coin donation.

he is also doing an appearance at Carousel Shopping Centre at 4.30pm on October 31

For a long time he didn't get the best team in the land, he got the selectors NSW mates to carry.
Phil Hughes, Steve smith, and he had the wheelie bin behind the stumps in Baddin. (in fairness clarke Wants his non batting non keeping mate there).

Pretty sure everybody is tired of that crap.
whatever the reason, he didn't get the best players on form in the land at the latter stages of his captaincy.
on form for much of his captaincy from 2005 ashes were a fair few 'experimental' players and a long way off from the best on form or the best in their career.
and often they were played out of position.

Come on Dan.

Hughes earned his selection the first time by dominating Sheffield Shield.

A young guy with that shield record would get a chance regardless of what state he played for.

really?
David Hussey dominated for a decade didn't get a call up...apparently had technique issues...cough cough hughes.
Smith ... got smashed.
2005 michael hussey was dominating in domestic cricket dominated the ODI's and got banished to country cricket...if only we had a batsman who could stand up...oh wait..

Punter did not get the best players available for the latter half of his captaincy.

yeah, but how many chances, does he get, & still not yet rectifying the problem!

Doolan;

"I think I came on in leaps and bounds last year thanks mainly to Ricky Ponting," Doolan said. "Under his tutelage, I learned more in 12 months than I had in the first five years of my career. I've got a lot to thank him for. It's not necessarily what he's said or how he's spoken to me, it's just what I did was sit back and watch him.
"I watched him play, I watched him train, I watched him eat, I watched him drink, I pretty much just watched him 24/7 every opportunity I got. So it wasn't necessarily anything he said to me but it was just an opportunity to play with the best player I've ever seen and also just be able to learn how the best player goes about it."

That's probably worthy of it's own thread.

The lack of ex Aus XI (genuine ones, not a few Tests here and there) players spending a couple of years in the domestic comp after they finish their international duties has to be a massive factor in the lack of quality in the competition.
