Maybe it isn't just the recruiters. Could be the way our coaching staff develop young players to bring out the best in them.

Absolutely and when it comes time to recruit guys like Aish or Scharenberg this is what we should be shouting from the tree tops. What we have produced from what our picks were is nothing short of amazing.

Alan Stewart is going to be a big loss for us, as part of his role is developing the youngsters along with Heath Younie. I've loved seeing Campo really use the SANFL coaches on AFL game day as well.

Is he leaving? I hadn't seen any mention of this? Is he retiring?

Like any half forward, he went missing for periods of the game, but gee is first and last quarters were special.

Check the last few minutes again. He gut runs back in to the D50 to help lay the tackle with Laird that held the dogs up after their missed handball. He then peels off the contest, gets out the side and receives the handball fro Sloane. He quickly assess his options and hits the kick to Walker perfectly. Stops a goal, creates a goal. Desperation and composure.

Then he again runs hard backwards and comes across the front of the pack in the D50 to attempt an intercept mark. He gets fingertips to it but it has too much height and spills the mark. He smacks his head hard on the ground on landing. Had he marked it he would be hailed as a hero. As it was that commitment and fearless approach stopped any chance the Dogs had of getting a critical mark and kick at goal.

As Roo said this morning, he looks like a 200 game player.

Seriously how good is our recruiting department?

Meanwhile Mitch Harvey, who Port selected the pick before Riley is likely to be delisted this year...

I watched our players stream forward live to counter that attack by the dogs and initially Riley was heading towards Grant to cover him once Laird had committed to try and intercept Crameri, then as soon as the handball was released he diverted to help out Laird instead. Gee we have some very smart footballers in our team. How the hell did that happen?

He's retiring :( But I would like to thank him for being part of the committee of selecting Walshy as well as all the invaluable work he's done with our young draftees.

Because we stopped picking the players who don't have the smarts? :)

Surely he can go another year, or 5... :(

Luckily they pulled the trigger on Wright, imagine that was Wright in the same position? He'd kick it to Tex but it wouldn't make the distance, it would have just been spoiled or marked by the WBD Player straight in front because Writght can't kick over 30m.

Knight made him look like an absolute tit. Any attempt by Wood at all at a spoil would have completely negated that play. I'm glad Wood is so good at intercept marking that he doesn't feel the need to punch the ball. Fantastic piece of play by Riley, though.

To be fair, if he spoils the ball is very likely to still end up in a crows hands for an open goal.
Knight took a very strong mark, which was probably a little unexpected given the kick was too far for him.

Give Wood credit, he was very good.

Knight though. Wow what a superstar.
Thats a first final to remember for the kid.

Watching the Tigers notch up another finals just reaffirmed the importance of having players (no matter what age/experience) who stand up in finals, they could have used a Riley Knight type instead of a Reece Conca.

He shall be known as Reece Conkedout.

Geez I laughed the day we pinched him from Port!

The best thing to ever come out of that club:D

Harvey wont be delisted I wouldnt think.
Where do you get that from?

Last I heard he was coming along quite nicely but as with big blokes needs a bit extra time.

Just been called a spud on the Port board.:D

and this surprises you ?

You only have to venture over there once or twice to know that any astute non-Port football discussions are very few and far between.

Most of them didn't even know that Ryder was a ruckman and not a forward until he arrived at Alberton.

I don't think he should be, but with Dixon coming in he might be squeezed out (esp if they inexplicably keep Butcher). I know they have told him they won't discuss contracts until after the season has finished. Not a great sign.

That is really sad. Have so much respect for Stewart, he absolutely changed the culture of Centrals with his decision to step down after losing the grand final. It was seen as a little emotional at the time because he had built a side that would be challenging for a while to come but he stuck his flag pole in the ground and said "near enough is just not good enough" and I believe that act was the catalyst in making Centrals such a powerhouse club.

His work with the Power and then with us has been exemplary, if there is a way we could get him to stay at the club for 5 hours a week on full time pay he'd be worth it, he will be missed.

Hearing that makes me think he and Walshy would have been good mates

Its more concerning that the clubs actual leadership did not know this.

I would keep Butcher.
Fix his yips and he'll be a decent player yet.

One more year aint gunna hurt their list, but he might be able to turn it around.
Whatever they were doing with his technique made things worse not better.
