Player Watch Riley Thilthorpe - Signed to End of 2028

Interesting Sen have been running an award during the year with voting 3,2,1 for any player who doesn’t have a centre bounce attendance (not including ruckmen)
Basically saying the brownlow is for midfielders and this was for all others.
Thilthorpe won on 33 from Jeremy Cameron on 28.

Doesn’t mean much but interesting nonetheless

All things considered though he was a fair pick up for a later second round pick
Would have been a good trade deal for him too.

Better than 2 years of draft picks lost.

Tippett was primarily a mark-on-the-lead, set shot kind of forward, who also had decent ruck craft. Not much beyond that, but that was enough to make him a valuable player.
He was a very good contested mark

Under selling him a bit I reckon

Bit injury prone but at his best he was a 50+ goal a year power forward. Massive presence and a great mark.

I'd easily have him in the top 5 key forwards to play for the club. I suspect after this era he will still be there (along with Walker, Modra, Thilthorpe and Fogarty)

Mark Stevens vs Kurt Tippett would be a good argument. Both burned for too short a time. Tippett probably more goals, but Stevens 2001-2003 at CHF was brilliant.

Cmon. Brilliant between 2001-2003?

Mark Stevens kicked 67 goals between 2001-2003. Kurt Tippett kicked 55 in 2009.

Mark Stevens had ONE season where he kicked more than 21 goals in his entire career. Tippett had 7.

Stevo had one good season and that was in 2003. Better compare Stevo to Mitch Morton than Tippett.

Did you not watch him when he was with us?

Footywire started keeping contested marks in 2010.

Tippett was #6 in the AFL in 2010 for contested marks.
Tippett was #3 in the AFL in 2012 for contested marks.

AFL tables kept them for 2009 and Tippett was #5 for contested marks in the AFL.

In 3 of his 5 seasons with us he was at worst top 6 in the AFL for contested marks.

Right now its a clear top 4.

1. Modra
2. Walker
3. Tippett
4. Jenkins

Then it's between TT & FOG for #5. Do FOG's 2 seasons of 40 and 41 goals = TT's 55 goal season so far?

I would have TT as our #5 and he will probably end up #3.

Try #1 and by a mile at the rate TT's going.

Tex and Modra were excellent forwards, but they weren't era defining ones. TT is well positioned to be an era defining one.

People still talk about Modra today, and not just supporters at our club.

That was an era defined by key forwards.

Enough people have responded to my post that clearly my saying "mark on the lead" was a poor choice of words. My point was that he got the vast majority of his goals from set shots after taking marks (whether on the lead, or from us sitting it on his head). He didn't do a whole lot besides that, other than some decent ruck craft.

Those two traits alone were enough to make him a highly sought after player. But it's only a fraction of the skill set that Thilthorpe possesses.

It was, though I find Modra more of a flash in the pan instead of Dunstall/Ablett or Carey/Lockett. A high high, but didn't quite stick the landing (whether due to injuries or other issues).

Probably have to see how the next few years go with Riley before making a "GOAT AFC Forward" call, because as good as he could be, he's gonna have 2 very good players to beat.

Bloke kicked 70+ in 5 different seasons.

Discussion was key forward rather than goalkickers. He was brilliant as a genuine CHF.

Top 2 or 3 finish in B&F a couple of times.

He played half a season as a CHF in 2001 when he finished 2nd in the B&F. (First 12 games were at CHB).

He played as a CHF in 2002 and kicked 38 goals.

He then only played 8 games in 2023.

He was good, but lets not act like he was in the ballpark of Tippett - especially with regards to a key forward.

Hentschel was better as a key forward for us than Stevo.
