Seven reporter bashed outside NRL venue September 10, 2007 - 5:56AM

A Seven Network journalist was tackled to the ground and punched by two men on live television outside Olympic Park, following the Melbourne Storm's NRL qualifying final win over Brisbane.

Reporter Ben Davis suffered minor injuries in the attack, which occurred as he did a live cross to Seven's Brisbane news bulletin from outside the Melbourne stadium at about 6.20pm (AEST) yesterday, police said.

Police said a group of men was involved in the assault.

One of the men tackled Mr Davis, pushing him to the ground, while another punched the reporter in the back of the head.

The man who tackled him was wearing a Brisbane Broncos guernsey and was described as caucasian, aged in his early to mid 20s and about 180cm tall with short, dark hair.

The other man was described as being about 30 years with a shaved head, solid build and tattoos on his arms.

Police have released images of the two men, which was captured by Seven's cameras.

Melbourne Storm defeated the Broncos 40-0 in the match.

The crushing defeat revenged the Storm's grand final defeat at the hands of Brisbane last year.

This issue is hard for me to comment on because I dislike journalists and reporters with a passion. All I'd like to know is what the reporter did or said to provoke the attack. Without condoning violence, some journalists have almost deserved a punch in the head over the years.

Yes, I have a feeling the Journo would have given some spiel about him being a TV star and insulting the guys.

If the reporter said anything at all, it would have been in response to some heckling from the fans. I doubt very much that a reporter would walk up to some random fans and smart mouth them for no reason.

What do you expect from the biggest meat head sport followers. Lets be honest here, anyone that plays RL has the IQ of a carrot so you wouldn't think any of the supporters would be rocket scientists!!
I must have imagined it when Fevola attacked a bar-tender in Ireland then. I must also be seeing things everytime i see the Collingwood cheersquad. AFL players and supporters are all Nobel Peace Prize winners aren't they :D

I think we should all be grateful that the kind of thinking that lends itself to these kind of assaults frequently goes hand in hand with the kind of thinking that makes them easy to catch, like doing it during a live cross.

bryan waldron has already said that it was actually melbourne victory fans trying to start a soccer riot

Saw it on the news this morning some other details

-They were heckling him so he reckons he said to them that he doesn't come in there work place and heckle them when they work, so could they please not do it to him. Although probably not in those words.

-He told them it was fine to do stupid things in the background and he didnt mind that

-Channel 7 didn't show all the footage this morning, the reporter was knocked to the ground by a group of up to 6 guys. He was also kicked while lying on the ground

You are kidding right? I am sure you would like that sort of fun happening to you or your family.

Spot on mate, there is nothing funny or cool about attacking a bloke who is simply doing his job. Especially when these dog w***ers attack him from behind, massive heroes.
