AFL Autopsy RND 14: Chewed Up and Spat Out By the Cats

The outcome of the game was expected given the team we put out, but it was still disappointing to completely capitulate in the last quarter.

You know the injury situation is dire when you are debuting two mid season draftees who are clearly not ready for AFL football. Blakiston tried but clearly struggled against Neale and although May was quiet I saw some good signs - he is absolutely worth persisting with.

Perhaps more than any game this season we got a good indication of which of the young guys will make it and which won’t. Roberts, Johnson and Clarke all look comfortable at the level and have very bright futures. Kako is tracking ok but probably needs a spell at some point. I’m not sure about Day Wicks and I think Lual may have had his papers stamped.

So many turnovers from our senior players is so telling in where we’re at. Wright cant handball for shit either

Would not 100% disagree but I also think some of the usual suspects just make dumb decisions.
McGrath is a decent defender but not the smartest ball user and I think being VC he tries to play beyond his capabilities. Parish has been nowhere for 3 seasons now.
Setterfield was one of our best and he does a job each week but he is basically a C grade skill wise.
Goldstein is what he is. The backup who is doing his best and played well but also had mistakes.
It is what it is. I suspect it will not be a lot better until we turn a few more players over and keep brining young players through until we find the right mix.
As for Smith. When you get 40 touches no one mentions turnovers I guess.
I think McGrath is a very effective player in a very good side. In a good side that is locked in, his run and carry has more outlets and his opponent needs less attention. But in a poor side he is a headless chook.

There is always next week, be strong, do as I do, drink and wait for for for for, maybe.
I still love supporting Essendon, 67 yrs old so I've had the pleasures of Premierships. BUT HEY.
This Big Footy shit is mentally inspiring, some posters have no idea, some think they do, some wish they did, THEN,
You have me, not much I dont know about anything football.
Ranked back of the bus in supercoach and 20 behind in my tipping comps.
Have a good night everyone, enjoy life but, dont let bullshit get in the way of fact.
