Where did I say his game was an aberration? I said like Steele, like Macrae, he had a down game.

What are you on about?

As far as what I report at training. I call what I see. You don't like it, up to you champ, I don't put my worth on opinion of football like some obviously do. I called Collard wouldn't make it.
You don't like what I post? Scroll past, but don't make up bullshit and try to have a go at me.
Jog on.

So.....

Nothing lucky about Jones' form, did it back half of 24 and all through pre season. The Adelaide game was an aberration in my view.
When fit, he can be a very good outside mid/wing

You talk rubbish then play the man, make others feel like crap then get all fake tough when someone calls you out.

Sure, I didn't need to bring up what you said previously but I guess fake tough guy doesn't make you right... champ...

I find the Steele critism a bit strange.

He didnt have a huge impact, but managed 20 touches, 9 contested, 7 clearances and 5 tackles. He was probably underdone and a bit rusty, but geez.

I'd expect him to flourish now that teams will put more work into Macrae. They will struggle to contain both, which is exactly why we need more options going thru the centre. Garcia's game was pleasing, and Pou will be chomping at the bit as well.

Jonesy is going to be on the chopping block next week I think. 4 kicks 9 hbs, 1 mark, 0 tackles, 2 free kicks against (yes he might have been unlucky not to get a high tackle call but he still was too slow to dispose of it), 61% disposal efficiency. That's a really bad game.

He's in there to offer pace but his form is back down unfortunately. If Henry is fit then he has to come in for him.

Tobie was also poor but I suspect they'll give him another chance.

Briggs is one of a handful of rucks that always kills Marshall. Tough day for Marshall, really hope he's ok and can respond next week.

I thought Steele showed a bit in the last quarter. Hopefully a bit of a return to form late, it's worth remembering he hasn't played for about a month.

Jones was lucky to hold his spot after the week prior, with our injuries we just dont have the players forcing under performers like Zak out. When fit Carroll would be the obvious replacement but he still has weeks to recover.

Regardless I think the club should give Hugh Boxshall a game in Jones's place this week.

I thought Hastie looked more solid than Travaglia on the hbf and Henry/Butler if fit should come in.

Our biggest issue will be how to stop Darcy, Wilkie or Caminiti are going to have their hands full playing on someone 210cms tall. Then they have Naughton and ODonnell to contend with. I dont know where Barrat is at development wise, but perhaps giving him a game on O'Donnell might be feasible. Does Shoenmaker come into calculations somewhere? I liked that we through him into the midfield in the VFL the week prior, he needs to learn how to win the ball at the coal face.

The Dogs dont usually play run with players so we can expect Macrae to get back to his best, plus Marshall cant play 3 ordinary games in a row surely.

That's where the selection balance is vital right?

I don't think it's as simple as a like for like replacement though, which I know you didn't say.

If Jones goes out, someone already in the team covers his spot. Someone like Hill, Byrnes, Hall or Wilson for example - which is where you'd be finding his replacement.

Henry (assuming he's back to full fitness) is too good for VFL footy, rotate Hill, Henry and Hall through that role.

Butler also, when fit, would push someone up the field into Jones' spot. King when fit, pushes Wood up to the wing. Pou, well he'd be another. I think Boxy will be a beauty, but yes, having him, Hugo, Windy and Tobes for example would be irresponsibly inexperienced.

Even playing someone like Hastie in defence pushing Stocker into the middle for those explosive bursts could be an option.

Either way, we pay people ridiculous money to make these selection decisions, but it's not like our squad is bereft of options.
You're right. I keep thinking of Jones as still playing that inside role but looking at the AFL app he attended 2 centre bounces in the game.

Of our available players Im wondering if Hastie would have been better in that role playing on the outside. I dont think he would have done any worse then Jones over the full game.

Hell, it might have been a better idea to play Shoenmaker to account for their talls better. We talk a lot about his boot but Norwood being a small ground might have been an actual good use for that.. Plus just more option to have better matchups. Webster would have been better suited on Greene at times if he isnt having to deal with Stringer etc..

Not saying selection lost us the game.. but I think we could have been a bit more competitive with a more traditionally sized team.

Changed my mind with the Ins., for this week's game.

Ins. Henry, Keeler, Sch'maker

Outs. Hastie, Jones, Travaglia

B. Webster Caminiti Stocker

H.B. Wilson Wilkie Windhager

C. Sch'maker Owens NWM

H.F. Hall Sharman Henry

F. Wood Keeler Higgins

Foll. Marshall Macrae Sinclair

l/C. Byrnes, Garcia, Hill, Steele, Collard-sub

I click on to that quote and there is no link.

Please put the link so I can see what game you are talking about?

I assume it was round 1. If so I stand by that. He was good last week but you conveniently leave that out to suit your Jones hate narrative.

You if you can read through your hate, I said Jones was poor yesterday and his one thing he has which is burst wasn't there, he is in big trouble.
Fancy trawling back to R1 just to make s.hit up about yesterdays game. In my view Jones was good with Clark and Dow at the end of last year and has been ok in our wins.

You should really address your own issues champ. Maybe look at yourself and your choices in life instead of waiting in the shadows for over a month just to try and score some pathetic dick measuring contest.

I stand by my views, I am sure if I had no life, I could trawl back through your tedious posts and finds something that is different from game to game, however I could be bothered.

As for him having some bad Adelaide Oval games, Saints have won 3 from 16, you could look at anyone in our team.
Ans what did that R1 post have to do with Adelaide oval anyway. Using a post out of context to attack someone is pretty poor. But knock yourself out mate, wouldn't be the first time you have made a fool.of yourself with idiotic posts.

Have a nice day champ.

Macrae (tagged), Jones and Jimmy all came back to Melbourne rather than stay the week in Adelaide. Maybe others did too. All three had their worst games for the year. The whole squad training together this week will make us a better team for the Bulldogs this week.

I'd expect him to flourish now that teams will put more work into Macrae.

That's why people are critical. He's a dual AA mid who was crying out for support in the midfield so that he could get back to that standard. Now he has that support and he hasn't flourished in three games this year yet.

We all know what he's capable of and 20 touches ain't it.

Probably sums up where we are at, competitive but not quite at the top
level yet.

Jones is in strife for selection, is Henry fit? Or did he get re injured? We desperately need King back, in the mean time give Keeler or Heath or anyone tall enough a go.

Could use another tall in defence too, Caminiti vs Darcy could get very very ugly.

We play marvel well, but if we go that short again it’s just going to be Lobb and Darcy marking it on repeat at either end.

Henry is fit. Had 25 touches and a goal in the VFL last week from memory.

Also didn’t mention Steele.. what has happened to him? He is borderline best 22 at the moment. Has he cracked a smile or a moment of enjoyment on field for 2 years?

Used to be one of my favourite, if not favourite players. Now he looks miserable constantly and has a very low impact on the game. Hope he turns it around as if teams tag Macrae he’s the next guy to step up!

They got 10 goals from turnover. That's the game, some of those turnovers were impossible to defend. Our game otherwise looked in good shape. That's an elite team with elite talent, and take out some of the unforced errors we could've pushed them further.

Splitting the 2 games in Adelaide is a result i would've taken at the start of the year. Now we go back home and against good opposition of course, but we're 4 goal better team at that venue over the last 10 games or so.

This next block of games will give us a real indication of what this season will look like, and i can't wait to see it!
Spot on mate .10 goals from turn over .we had chances but blew it with poor decision making and or poor disposal against a highly skilled team. Thats ok review the game improve and move on its no disgrace to get beaten by gws by 5 goals with an undermaned team

Probably one of the better 28 point losses I can remember. A shame we couldn't use the ball and convert a bit better in the last to give them more of a scare but then we're lucky their goal kicking was awful in the last as well.

Fact is they are a top four side who were a bit unlucky last year in that they caught both grand finalists separately and lost by a kick to each. Their injury list is pretty shallow and they are well drilled and should challenge strongly this year. We put on a decent show and the main thing is we fought back.

God knows what we'll do about D'Arcy this week though. I assume Ross managed Keeler for this reason and will play him down back this coming week.

Sometimes numbers don't tell the story.
Steele yesterday is one of those situations. If you have time, go back and look at how he looked when he got the ball, and how he used the ball. Totally down on confidence. His simple lazy, sloppy handpass in the last quarter when we had momentum that went to the player's feet and made him stop, allowing the GWS players to close down the space he would have enjoyed summed up his game completely. It summed up the team too, poor disposal and not to our player's advantage when we had great opportunities to move forward.

On numbers though, people should take into account that we brought in an extra mid at the expense of a tall forward. When you do that there are fewer CBAs and possessions to go around. That partly explains a drop-off in the numbers of Jones, Macrae etc. But they were down, and up against an AFL project team.

We needed things to go right yesterday to have a chance. And they did. Until the crooked umps gave GWS 3 out of their first 4 goals. After that it was on us, but that definitely brought the NSW project back into the game which is all they needed against a real football team that gets no favours.

Back down to around last years i50 conversion rate territory with an ordinary 40.3% yesterday despite being way ahead on our season average for i50's.

Got the ball enough - a lot under pressure and lot intercepted which then meant our 150 tackle pressure was down as well.

Need another tall fwd - or another option - our fwds get the Stringer "Encouragement Award" - get a free kick for getting somewhere near the ball.

Something must be up with him or he would have played. Wish the journos had asked Ross about it at the presser.
The journos asked NOTHING at the presser. So many things I wanted to know, especially about how we planned to go inside 50 without Keeler vs the Giants by name and nature. And whether long, aerial kicks were part of the plan, or whether "dirty ball" was considered. What were the specific instructions going into Q4? Was the Nas outside 50 bombing a predetermined set play, or was Nas just winging it. Questions about structure, the mids, the players at Sandy and thoughts on the alignment. Anything would have been better than what they asked. Amateur hour.

Ross actually slyly mentioned the umpiring in his press conference so you can be sure he was pissed about it. The Stringer gift was a farce, some of the worst umpiring I've seen in that first half.
