Sincs is probably our best followed by Wilkie. Macrae, Marshall and Nas probably just off those 2 still. Nas with the trajectory to still become the best player in the league though. He's well ahead of most of the absolute stars of the game at the same age.

To win a Brownlow he's almost definitely need to go on ball.
It was clear on Sunday his role has changed and he was charging into the forward line - offensive weapon. Prior to this he has had less confidence with shots on goal. He was definitely the go to man more than I’ve seen before.
Team mates have a lot of trust in him.
I think part of this was our lack of presence deep in the forward line but he is rising fast.

Agreed, Nas never really seemed confident in front of goal before the weekend. Would either miss shots from 40 out or pass them off entirely

Hopefully it was a turning point for him because if he does it consistent enough, he'll have a blazer at season's end

Also, I still can't believe how easily he put away that shot from 60. Never knew he could kick that far - that was Arie-like!

They can't even tell the difference between 15 and 30m or Jones's head and his buttock.

Jones was lucky to hold his spot after the week prior, with our injuries we just dont have the players forcing under performers like Zak out. When fit Carroll would be the obvious replacement but he still has weeks to recover.

Regardless I think the club should give Hugh Boxshall a game in Jones's place this week.

I thought Hastie looked more solid than Travaglia on the hbf and Henry/Butler if fit should come in.

Our biggest issue will be how to stop Darcy, Wilkie or Caminiti are going to have their hands full playing on someone 210cms tall. Then they have Naughton and ODonnell to contend with. I dont know where Barrat is at development wise, but perhaps giving him a game on O'Donnell might be feasible. Does Shoenmaker come into calculations somewhere? I liked that we through him into the midfield in the VFL the week prior, he needs to learn how to win the ball at the coal face.

The Dogs dont usually play run with players so we can expect Macrae to get back to his best, plus Marshall cant play 3 ordinary games in a row surely.
Marshall looks injured to me a shadow of last year

Was terrible against Adelaide
Was very good against the Cats.
Was good against the Tigers.
Was serviceable against the Power
Was well beaten by Briggs on the weekend. (Stats would suggest it was pretty even but he was ragged dolled so many times by Briggs on the weekend. It was extraordinary).

I think Hastie deserves a full game this weekend over quite a couple that started yesterday.

The likes of Jones and tobie. His extra height and intercept ability would be very handy considering we are undersized down back.

Hopefully Henry is right available soon.

I can see us targeting a genuine second tall forward soon. Without king we can’t get the ball to ground.
JUH will be going for peanuts. We should at least do our due diligence and have a chat to him.

He’s not Nicky Winmar yet.

To be fair to Nas, he is 22 now, Nicky was 22 in his first season just slightly older that Nas is now.

Nas is now flying, and could well end up having a better year this year than Nick's first.

Nicky got better after 87, but Nas is going to be better too!

So exciting times ahead watching to just see how good Nas can be.

In 87 I spoke with Nicky at a pre-season practice game. I mainly chatted to him as he was painfully shy back then (and shy he remains) and was off by himself. So I went up and had good conversation with him. He was an unknow then, but not for long!

Winmar is amongst my most favourite St Kilda players that I have watched....and yes is also amongst the best St Kilda players I have ever watched play.

If Nas ever lets rip with a Torpedo he too might deliver 70m monsters! ;)

That may be so, but he equally may end up going to peanuts too.

AFL is so professional now that players cannot just skate through on natural talent. They need to have a burning desire to play, and to be the best that they can be.

There was a story he pulled a gun on Rory Lobb. That does seem like a ridiculous internet rumour without any evidence.

However I have heard a further disturbing rumour that, if true, is far worse 😱

If Ari can develop other areas of his game imagine him and Nas pinging them through from 60 out. Flood the D50 all you like

Lobb has rejected that as scuttle, so wouldn't be stating that so openly.

Thought Wilson was pretty sloppy with his disposal, I prefer seeing him forward of centre than in the thick of it.

Also it seemed like we got pretty lucky with a few 50-50 calls in the first Qtr and it didn't seem sustainable, as we seemed slower and weaker throughout.

No surprises there really, the heat and congestion took most of the advantages out of our better players, but I was still disappointed to see to such poor disposal from normally trustworthy players.

First time in a while I've seen such an understanding and reasonable fan reaction after a loss, I think we are clearer about where we're at than we have been for a long time. That might change in the next two weeks.
Darcy hasn’t had a great year thus far. He can really lack footy nous at times. The two weeks prior he has tried to kick a ball off the deck that was rolling over the boundary line and kicked it out in the full. That’s early teenager rubbish.

On the kicking off the deck, is it just me or do we do this excessively in 2025. Seems like some hate putting their head over the pill.

I think late teens are still capable of the odd early teen mistake.

I'm glad my mistakes at 19 weren't slow-mo replayed and scrutinised for weeks to come!
A lot of them are still slow-mo replayed in my mind and that's bad enough.

As far as us dong it excessively, we've only lost to Adelaide who are having a terrific year, and GWS.

We're doing ok.

There's a lot of focus on keeping the ball moving, so occasionally there'll be some tap-ons and kick-ons and forward handballs that fail spectacularly. I'm happy to wear that in exchange for our respectable scoring rate so far this year. I think a few more kicks off the ground might have helped last weekend, as we sure turned it over pretty badly when we picked it up and had time and space. Tongue-in-cheek comment of course, in case it wasn't obvious.

Think it’s just you. 😉

I don’t think it’s been excessive and I don’t think it’s to avoid putting head over the ball. Sometimes its just the best option to keep the ball moving quickly.

Close to the boundary line can cause problems though.

Just my opinion but l wouldn't touch him. There's never any shortage of young afl players that have trouble keeping on the tracks but there's been a petulant and entitled vibe about him from day 1. He really just seems like a bit of a brat w***er.

He'll get a new home based of ability, but has problematic unfulfilled career tattooed on his forehead. A big pass from me.

Nonetheless, MacLobster would be the obvious go-to for a character reference. I'm confident in our recruiting staff to make good choices.

Also didn’t mention Steele.. what has happened to him? He is borderline best 22 at the moment. Has he cracked a smile or a moment of enjoyment on field for 2 years?

Used to be one of my favourite, if not favourite players. Now he looks miserable constantly and has a very low impact on the game. Hope he turns it around as if teams tag Macrae he’s the next guy to step up!

I recognise that it's early in the season but if Steele continues like this I'd be happy if we bring in Worpel as a FA and trade Steele for a 2nd rounder. He hasn't looked interested for a few years. Seems miserable and has been a GOP for the past couple of years. Looks likely to be overtaken by Pou, Windy and Garcia shortly.
