was bored today so started watching youtube videos, one thing led to another and ended up stumbling across this. fair to say it gave me shivers.

sometimes you forget just how amazing the great man was.

edit: most of you have probably seen it no doubt, but it's worth sharing. and watching again haha.

Best of the Best

it pains me to see Harvey not included in the hird, buckley, voss comparisons. imo he is every little bit as good as each of them, if not better, yet neutral supporters always seem to disagree..

irrelevant, but juust while we are on the youtube, I stumbled across these videos that I never even knew existed as well..

there's a whole series of them, this is one of a young Andrew Thompson with a great interview with sk warne.

The one I laugh at is Nathan Buckley was a better disposer of the ball.

Sure, if kicking points from 60m is your thing, there was nothing better than a well weighted Harvey pass to a leading forward.

and then the handball release after the shimmy shimmy shake drawing 3 opponents, and releasing to a free team mate, not running behind the bloke who just marked the ball for an easy hand off.

It took many opponents many years to work out Harvey was a lefty, I don't think some ever did.

My favorite ever Saint- and that is a big call - with Lenny and Winmar very close behind. Sad and pathetic admission here from my end but in the end one i am proud of - i have a small shrine to the man in my home office; posters, a signed footy, a hat signed by him and a photo.

I don't know if he will be end up being a good coach - always felt fate, sadly, badly, stepped in in the case of T. Barker and stole him from us a coach. But i am a romantic. Would love Banger back in some capacity but feel/guess he needs to learn more. And I expect he knows that.

When we lived in Melbourne for three years, years ago when my three daughters were little, my weekly ritual was to take them to the football, for their Saints indoctrination and brain washing.

In our second year there I took the girls to a family day for the Saints at Moorabbin. Lots of player signatures photos and fun.

After getting home my wife (a non football person) asked the girls what the day was like, they all replied with a score of highlights, but saved their best to the end. Yes today they met Robert Harvey and had their photo taken with him. She replied politely, "thats good."

My middle daughter, said a little louder, "Mum we met Robert Harvey", to which she gave a similar reply. From there it was verbal ping pong in which it was said "WE MET ROBERT HARVEY" with increased volume and passion. My wife was trying with replies of excellent, thats fantastic, but this wasn't enough for middle daughter.

Finally middle daughter stopped, turned to me and said, "she just doesn't get it, does she? We met Robert Harvey." I nodded agreement as i watched the three of them walking away, knowing that they were now life long Saints fans, but that yes today, they had met Robert Harvey, one of the clubs and AFL's all time champions.
