In fact, today he conceded his first free kick for the year - testament to how fair he is despite going in hard.
Brilliant post, couldn't agree more.![]()
That is an amazing stat, that. You could be the fairest person in the league and still give away free kicks through holding the ball or a player slipping in the tackle and catching them high.
Surely there is no one that dislikes him? I don't think anyone has ever had a bad word to say about him - including me. The only other two players as consistent as him at his age would have been Michael Tuck and Craig Bradley.

*in 97 and 98 he managed over 700 possessions in each of those season (92 he got 690 possessions in that season)
*when his brother debut for st kilda the sun listed anthony harvey as "brother of robert harvey" breaking the tradition of listing the team the player came from

*there are an estimated 70 players in the AFL lists who weren't born when RObert Harvey debuts fro st kilda in 1988.
All amazing stats but these two in particular - 690 disposals in 92? He would've been 20 years of age wouldn't he?!?!
And people talk of how good Judd was as a teen..
I had no idea his brother played. No good I spose? All the talent in the family must've gone to Robert.
Epitome of the word champion that man.

I guess they figured it was an unfair advantage to keep him on for the whole game
Kevin Bartlett, 58.56 from half-forward as a 35yo in 1982.
but yes, he certainly was another who really stood out for a player in his mid 30s; given he did play 403 matches.Anthony Harvey played 4 games for St Kilda in 1994.
Never made it in the AFL, but played over 200 games for Norwood in the SANFL, and captained them to their last premiership in 1997.
I just freakin' love the guy. I mean the guy gets up and wins a Brownlow Medal and the first thing he talks about is that it was a hollow victory, meaning it shouldn't have been his.
Regardless of your opinions on the whole Chris Grant/1997 Brownlow controversy - if there was a player in the late 90s who deserved to be honoured as the "fairest and best" player in the league more than Robert Harvey, I don't know what the world would've come to.
Add his loyalty to my list of things I admire about him. When other players left the Saints, Harvey stayed. When they kept on losing games despite his best efforts, Harvey stayed. When other clubs threw massive amounts of money at him - Harvey stayed.
In a time when money seems to be the driving force behind every important decision in the game - it's the loyalty of blokes like Robert Harvey that flies under the radar.
I could watch him every day of the year and still marvel at how good he is. If it weren't for the big full-forward that he used to kick the ball to every week, he'd be easily the greatest player I've ever seen.
Last bloke flying the VFL flag in the AFL.
)Chris Grant? (the bloke that should have one of Bangers Brownlow's)
still love Harvey though. True champion!
Along with Chris Grant and Glen Archer, Harvey is easily my favourite player never to wear the black & white - genuine great of the game.
All 3 supported the pies before being drafted, so that must be what makes them such champions![]()
Sure about that ?...u might be right but i thought Harvey was the last of the VFL
What date did Grant play his first game ?
