I wouldve preffered to keep Robbo and retire McDonald.

Or, retire both of them.

Our forwards arent developed yet, Robbo wouldnt of hurt.

Now, we are on the up, an exciting young list, so why get rid
of the only bloke in our side with a media profile?

McDonald stays on the list, why? Im not sure...

He is on there for the moment, I hope Bailey retires him.

Same here tbh, I don't even think McDonald should of been appointed as captain.

I feel sorry for Robbo. To me, this article is just the raw passion of Robbo coming out into the open. His passion and drive to wanna play on, has caused him to be rather dissapointed with the way he was dealt with. I think he speaks a bit outta spite, which is normal for a man of his passion towards the Melbourne Football Club. I beleive he still does and always will love and support this football club, he just needs a little time to get over the hurt of being asked to move on. You can't blame him for being upset, Anyone who is asked to leave what they love would feel the same as he does. It's just his emotions coming out, nothing more, nothing less.

ohh and btw, he didn't damn the demons, he's just dissapointed atm. He wanted to play on and he was denied, Can't help but feel sorry for the guy tbh.

I can't begin to put into words how much I agree with that post. I loved watching Robbo play the game and will always cherish the memories that he gave but the cold, hard facts of the last couple of years are that we are topping up with youth at the expense of age. We are trying to build a team that will be a top of the ladder force - not next year or the year after, or even in 2012 but for 2013 and a bunch of years after that. For too long under ND we kept players passed their useby dates because we loved them but it meant that kids missed out.

Football is a ruthless business and the aim of a football club is to win flags. A 30 year old legend in Robbo will give us 12-24 months of pleasure but he won't be around to hold up the cup should we get one. Robbo was well paid and well loved at the club during his time but it is now a time for a younger man to take his place.

I wish him all the best, and I hope a club picks him up so he can enjoy some more good times on the field, and I will enjoy any success that he has, but he must remember that the club is always bigger than the player and that the club would be negligent to its members and supporters if it chose sentiment over success.

Good luck my favourite #24 but don't let the trees get in the way of seeing the forrest of the game for what it is.

I dont think he's said anything too bad there. Would be preferable if he just promoted the fact that the Dees are on a youth drive and he is still good to go.

I would like to see him play at the Bulldogs next year.

"but we need to draw a line in the sand and build for the future and if you're out there we can't play a young kid."

Robbo needs to think about this. He talks about mentoring but if he is taking the spot of a kid in a "plug'n'play" position like a forward pocket then that means less kids out there to mentor in the first place.

Jurrah lands on his feet, I don't see what significant factors Robbo could possibly add to his game that requires him to be on field.

The reality is that letting some players go whilst they still arguably could find a spot is the mark of a hard decision and a strong club that eyes success. Even the top premiership sides renew their lists like this.

I don't mind what Robbo said as there is obviously a fair amount of passion there but I hope that it sinks in that the team is bigger than the individual and the coach and FD know what our direction is.

Roos was a helluva player too - was one of the best in the game at that time, and there weren't many better on-field leaders than him either - he could've easily won a Brownlow with the Roys...

No doubt about that, I was just referring to him in the context of coaches who hadn't had the ultimate success as players (or assistant coaches). He indeed could've become a senior coach much earlier than 02.

I do feel slightly sorry for Robbo reading this article because as previous posts have said he still seems to have alot of passion for the club and was genuinely gutted about getting moved on.

I'd say that if he'd played on for us next year Jurrah would get a better backman every week anyway, he's been one of my favourites for a long time but I think we made the right decision.

Originally I hated the idea of seeing Robbo run around in another teams jumper but after reading this I sort of hope someone drafts the poor bugger :(
