A very well written piece and brought up a few good points

"Alan Toovey and Marley Williams are yet to lose a contest, Jack Frost has lost just one and Nathan Brown and Tyson Goldsack have lost only two each"

"Collingwood still coughs the ball up at a rapid rate, going at 59.8 per cent by foot - ranked 17th in the AFL. The Pies also commit 76.5 turnovers per game - the most in the competition. One disposal in every 4.6 is a turnover in Pie Land.

Yet incredibly, the Pies have conceded the fewest points from turnovers of any side. They only concede a score from 14.9 per cent of turnovers, also ranked No.1"

Just recently read this too...

Good to have good defence. BUT............. Would be nice to kick better :/
The stats about Greenwood weren't amazing either.

Hopefully we continue to get players in the team who can kick. Getting Sidey and Reid back in will help a lot.

Great stats. A testament to our backline in particular, but also our midfield running so hard both ways. If only we could fix that disposal efficiency....

i think of we can just take 10-15% less risks and try and neaten that disposal up.. our defensive efforts are a Great base to build off.

Looking forward to the 2nd half of this year, hopefully a reasonably healthy list and our fitness base gives us a little advantage.

Fascinating year, i genuinely have no idea where we'll finish...

That is brilliant in one way but also a real bummer because it's bordering on impossible to turn players like Frost and Toovs into good kicks at this point in their careers.

If we can just add one or two really good kicks onto our half back line(Reid, Shaz) and make it a real point to get it to them when rebounding we could have a really solid combination.

It's funny, people here bagged Bucks because his gameplan wasn't suited to the cattle he had. The idea was that we should try and recruit more skilled players so that the gameplan he had would work. If not, then sack Bucks.

Of course, Bucks being one step ahead of his flog detractors, just adjusted the gameplan around the fact our players can't kick. So now it doesn't matter we can't hit targets!

I wonder whether this has more to do with the opposition we have played not punishing us like a Hawthorn or Fremantle can.

It's great that we are building some defensive wins, but you won't get away with these numbers against top 4 teams IMO.

I liked this article too. I do think it shows that those who say Bucks is trying to force a wrong headed gameplan without regard for our cattle might be wrong.

Beauty of it is, I'd imagine its easier to adjust this style to be a bit more aggressive as better kicks like Scharenberg and Reid return to the team than it is to move a super aggressive approach to be more defensive. The solid defence principles that help now will still stand us in good stead if our kicking improves.

But wait, I thought most on here wanted Brown and Toovey dropped after round 2?

oops.:drunk::oops:

It's great that Toovey hasn't been beaten in a contest, now if he could just clean up his disposal.

Which is line with what many think will have to happen eventually - those that can't kick it well enough will get passed by those who can.

Both have lost two 1v1 contests between them so far (both on Rambo's part).

Which means they have both overtaken Alex Rance on that measure.

So, who deserves a million dollar contract again...? :drunk:

THIS MAN DOES;

Ok great to hear but stats don't always translate to our defensive problems solved. 3/4 games have been in conditions that would impact and assist poor disposal or reduce the likelihood of being punished on the turn over.. What do you think the stats were against Adelaide in our only dry performance? Pretty poor I'd imagine!

Fact is Toovey, Frost, Williams & Brown are poor in their execution, let's hope we clean that up in 5 weeks when we start playing the good teams.
