Great news, fantastic player, person and a great addition to the coaching staff.

Got no idea whos head just appeared under my name, will try and find out what the hell happened to Farmer doing the purple jesus

Should've been ahead of Hansen on the pecking order.

But very happy he'll be at the club.
 
Nice decision. Freo obviously were looking for someone not far out of retirement...to keep it real with the youngens no doubt......yo!!.
If he can go beyond his paid role and teach them some skills..especially temperament and evasive skills I'd be very pleased.
 
Good appointment. I hope he can teach his ability to break lines rebounding out of defense to the boys.

Not sure you can teach what the Artful Dodger did naturally but hopefully some of his magic rubs off :)

Great appointment for the younguns, especially any Indigenous kids we pick up, and any player who wants/needs to learn how to twist/turn out of traffic better or read the play across half back.

Plus it's brilliant to see another quality Freo player stepping up to the coaching caper :thumbsu:
 
terrific news! i was broken up when he retired. great to see rog will be part of the club for a while yet. sounds like the perfect role for him.

“The way I played with my skills and defence, that’s my focus, helping ‘Curls’ develop those young players in defence,” he said.

“There are a few players that have been around for two or three years and they need to take that next step to get into the senior side and regularly play AFL football,” he said.

“I’ll be working closely, especially in defence, with players like Jesse Crichton and Nick Suban.”

And it’s not just the younger players Hayden will offer his extensive knowledge to.

“I’d love to help the fifth, sixth and seventh year players as well if they asked for it,” he said.

Hayden played a defensive sweeping role throughout his 128-game AFL career, using his silky skills to help launch many of Fremantle’s forays into attack throughout the past decade.

The club has yet to find a successor to that role, but Hayden is confident he can help mould one of the club’s young stars into the position.

“You look at Garrick Ibbotson, he’s a versatile player,” Hayden said.

“He’s quick, medium sized, reads the play very well and has very good skills. It’s the same with Nick Suban.

“They’ve got the ability to be that sort of player. It’s just instilling that confidence in them to beat their man first and foremost because they are defenders, and then to create for the team.

“That’s really important as a defender - to defend first.”

Good appointment! As a player had rotten luck but was always so professional in the way he cam back after injury. I know he is talking about working closer with the defenders but personally I would love to see him take Hilly under his wing. Imagine Stephen with the confidence and evasive skills that Roger had. Hilly definitely has the athletic qualities to do it.

Jobs for the boys? Cronyism? What has he ever done? How many flags has he won? How many AA? How do we know that he will be better than an inanimate carbon rod?

Rubbish appointment. The Steve(')s should be sacked.

It's good to see quality recently retiree Freo' players back in the fold.
 
Good appointment and great to see Roger continue his association with the club.






Pity about the few individuals who have tried to derail the thread in some sort of vain attempt to have a go at me. :(
